The fire happened in the 1500 block of west pike street in nicetown before midnight. The 100yearold woman started yelling for help. Her daughter just returned home from a night shift as a nurse, she credits her grandmothers alertness with saving the entire family. You know she saved my life by screaming help and alerting me that something was wrong. I saw her in the hallway and i saw the flames coming from her bedroom and the house began to quickly fill up with black smoke. Pemberton guided her grandmother down the steps while her mother called 911. The family is staying with relatives, investigators tell us the family had no working smoke detecters in their home.
