He was such a fighter and you think about just how strong he was even during his career over coming five knee surgeries becoming an allstar here is a look back at the career and the life of Darren Dalton. To left center field, way back, this ball is a grand slam home run Darren Dalton, darren dallas tan was a big hit on the field as he was off the field with phillies fans and dutch was beloved a fan favorite thanks to his big bright smile and the big hits he came up with during his 14 years with the phillies and dalton will always be remembered for leading the 1993 phillies from worst to first taking them all the way to the world series where dalton even cruelly watched joe carter hit the walk off homer and he was a gamer playing with to bad knees for majority of his career and 25th pick in 1980 was a warrior behind the plate no catcher in phillies history had been to the mid summer classic more a three time all star had the best years in early 1990s and led runs batted in 1992 dalton combined for 51 homers and 214, rbis in 92 and 93 becoming the only catcher in team history with back to back and 100, rbi seasons and on his way to best season ever in 1994 when his season was cut short due to knee problems. You kind of expect it. Reporter in one of the toughest trades in history they sent him packing with a trade to the marlins in 1997 when dutch would shed tears of joy when he finally won a world series in florida in his final game and dalton retired after winning a ring and popular as ever back in philadelphia and in 2010 dutch was inducted in the phillies wall of fame one of the toughest athletes this city has seen was in for the fight of his life in 2013 when he was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer doctors found two tumors which required surgery in 2015 dalton was in good spirits when he announced he had a clean scan. When the doctor walks in and opens the door and we start smiling then everything is cool. Reporter but dalton was eventually hit with more bad news a cancer reoccurrence and he may no longer be with us but he will be remembered and loved for the fighter he was onandoff the field. Growing up in the city i loved watching Darren Dalton play one of my favorite phillies and i remember waiting to get his autograph and Darren Dalton would sign autographs for me, i had 20 from him and one of my favorite memories growing up as a kid meeting him and with the Miami Marlins they do not win the world series and they went there and instituted a toughness and told me a story of him going to gary shelf field and said you are the leader of this team and have to step up and when it came from dalton he stepped up and they became really good friends. We will be missing the one and only Darren Dalton. Wentz worked on foot work on the off season and wentz has been unbelievable in camp and they have a lot better receivers that is an up grade but does it mean anything right now that carson wentz had been just on fire in training camp. Absolutely it means a lot. It does. Nothing has happened yet. What it means is his mechanics are better, he worked on some things with his foot work, he has been sharp in practice and i know they are playing mostly in shells and when they get against real competition its going to happen but i think there has been a noticeable difference in the people i talked to and what i see i think he is a different quarterback this year. Doug pederson said he looks a lot more comfortable and he believes that his mechanics and his foot work has become Second Nature and remind wentz from time to time in practice about staying within that new routine but so far so good and even wentz feels that it has become Second Nature for him in practice. Yeah and i think he recognized he is a leader of this team now. Second year he is going to take the leadership role. Last year he did not do that. This year i expect him to be better than he was last year. He is carson wentz saying he trusts his coaches with the new process. You trust your coaches sometimes when you seek outside sources and Different Things i mean you got to try and find the happy medium and i dont just trust everybody that has an opinion because everyone has their own opinion and that is part of the game and learning who you can trust and everything but the coaches pederson i trust them a lot and a good working relationship with them. Reporter the wentz look great the eagles corner is not so much and mills and robinson the outside starters for now but defensive coordinator jim schwartz doesnt sound too happy with the way the corners have played so far. He does not and when he is not happy they must have a problem and they do have a problem, they do not have two quality starting corners most of the time they will have to play three and they have to find three and they are out there skr jeff and he is 33 years old but you are not going to tell me if they add him he is not going to be better than anybody the eagles have right now. I dont know that anybodys consistent enough where we dont look at anybody else and i said the same thing coming into camp or maybe back in otas it will be nice to have solid guys or solid starters in those positions but we are still in the middle of a competition, everybody is striving to be consistent.
