Good afternoon sara is off and we begin with breaking news of an amber alert that ended with a child brought to safety and a suspect taken into custody. Well have more information as it becomes availableable to us. From south jersey regulators approved a highly controversial natural gas pipeline. Katherine scott is live in cherry hill where the vote went through despite heated opposition. Reporter rick, there was a motion earlier to table todays vote it was discussed and then denied. The vote went ahead as expected and as expected the pipeline proposal passed. Lets go to video from the heated meeting earlier and take a listen reporter nine members of the pine Lands Commission voted for the pipeline application, five against one abstained. They chanted as the Commission Voted the proposal to build the 20 million gas pipeline through the pine lands. South jersey gas submitted an application with the Pipeline Commission and saw backing from governor christie and unions. The pipeline would make the power supply more dependable after disasters like Hurricane Sandy and it would bring fuel to the power atlantic. But there were quite a few critics saying it does not benefit the pine lands or the people that live there. Which was a fundamental requirement for approving a plan in that area. And sets the precedent for future projects and the message the approval sends. One is if you are rich and powerful enough can you get project done regardless of what the rules say. If you can get the governor on your side and the senate to help you out. The actual rules that are suppose to protect the pine lands forever can be went to your will. I believe the projects are designed very safely and thousands of miles of pipelines are in this country without incident, and there is no conflict between it and the surrounding environment. Reporter and its very likely that this matter will end up once again if court a pending legal challenge was filed even before todays vote. Katherine thank you.
