Well have a look at how the cleanup is going around the region. Students in that philadelphia Public Schools heading back to school today and on time. Archdiocesan schools and many suburban districts are delayed. You can see those scrolling on your screen and on 6abc. Com. And this is new. Overnight firefighters had to battle both burning and icy conditions in the citys mantua section. As for the weather out there david and karen, you know what they said about the ides of march. Light stuff popping through Trenton Browns mills and a little bit towards the west of new hope much this isnt together to last much longer but i wanted you to see what that look like. Wind advisory in the southern roughly half of the region until 8 oclock. The big concern is with 45 Miles Per Hour gusts possible later today anywhere in these counties where you saw ice yesterday, could see some Power Outages with icy tree branches and wires being drawn down. Remember theyre real heavy because of the ice thats accumulated and its easy for wind to knock them down. Then theres a Winter Weather advisory in the northern areas. We could be in for a passing snow shower today that could put down an additional inch or maybe two of accumulation but the bigger issue in those Northern Counties is that the wind is going to take that snow and the additional snow already on the ground over a foot in a lot of those areas and start whipping it around again so you might have visibility issues. Going to start out with some sunshine although we see clouds filtering in. We expect the clouds to get thicker as the day goes on. Then snow showers pop through. The other issue is the cold its . You have the 22 degrees inly if, similar numbers elsewhere but with winds picking up the wind chill has dropped to seven in philadelphia and the obviously you want to bundle up and cover up as you head outside. Temperatures stay cold today. 24 degrees by noon. The we get a high of 29 but we dont get there until 5 oclock and by then of course there will be some of those spotty snow showers around. Things do get better in the exclusive accuweather 7day. Ill run that down for you coming up with that sevenday from accuweather. All right, karen you have issues out there. Yeah, lets give you the latest on this serious accident in chadds ford Delaware County. Look at all the emergency workers here. See this car, ran off the roadway into a snow bank. We had an ambulance that came and left. They have fire crews out here right now, tow truck. A lot of ems workers. For awhile they thought they needed a medical helicopter. They canceled that but nonetheless all lanes still blocked in both directions on route one, Baltimore Pike. The accident is northbound at creek road so as you head towards 202 youre dealing with this right now and it is jammed already coming away from kennett square. So be careful in this area and you can get the idea of how slick it is over here as well so a serious accident with a tow truck already on the scene. But in the meantime with Baltimore Pike being shut down stick to 52 or smith bridge road as your alternate to deal with that one. Lets take a look at another accident were hearing is involving a pedestrian here. Thats northeast avenue at red lion road in bustleton section. This accident just coming in so be careful about that. Looking i dont it side at i95 here we are approaching cottman. Happen disabled vehicle here. They just cleared it. It had been blocking the left lane for awhile. We saw last time it was hooked up to a tow truck so they left the scene a little slow now here because of that earlier disabled vehicle block the way so slow from academy to approaching cottman. The highway not seeing any slipping or sliding. People are looking pretty good. Getting more details though about this accident and its involving a headon collision here in salem county. Hook road between lee avenue and george drive. Watch for fire police on hand. Theyre directing the the scene matt. Thank you, karen. Action News Reporter gray hall is live in allentown which took the gold medal in snow totals in the region a hefty 13. 7inches. Good morning, gray. Reporter good morning, to you matt. I have a question. Snow lovers, are you happy yet . You should be because we got a great amount of snow as matt said in particular here in allentown. Take a look at these snow mounds here, these piles of snow, always kind of a good indicator of how much snow a neighborhood got. This neighborhood got hit pretty hard. You can see the two differences of the snow mounds here. People are doing a pretty good job i should say of plowing or removing the snow from the sidewalks. Thats always good. But when you wake up in the morning youre going to be dealing with this stuff right here, this snow in particular if you did not do any shoveling yesterday. Youre going to have your work cut out for you because underneath this snow of course is ice. Then when you leave the neighborhood you have to deal with this right here, the streets, and you can see here nothing but ice. Earlier we talked to a woman about plowing. Take a listen. Well, this year i see them that theyre working fast, you know. Theyve been up and down cleaning the roads. I was surprised cause last year took like two days to clean the roads but this year. Reporter quicker. Yeah, quicker. Reporter all right. So back out live that particular lady debra confident those snowplows will be eventually hitting her neighborhood so you have to be patient this morning also. Remember just be careful when you leave your neighborhood. We also like to remind you before you leave the house, if you have not, please remove the snow from your car. You dont want to cause any accidents. Weve seen some cars with snow on top of them. Of course that is illegal to do. Live in allentown, gray hall, channel6 action news. Back to you. Okay, thank you, gray. Manayunk is famous for its tight and twisting streets. Which usually mak make it a headache on mornings like this one trying to get out after a snowstorm. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is there now. Shes already seen cars left in the middle of the roadway. Its going to be a tough morning. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning, tamala. And this is one of those tiny streets that they have here in manayunk. This is right off of main street. This is gay street and you can see theres still people here that havent cleaned off their cars yet, probably didnt want to try to venture out yesterday but that little guy back there, he just couldnt make it down the street. So, it looks like the car owner, though, did clear off the front windshield and the hood of the car so maybe theyre going to try to get out today. Well see. People are just waking up here now in manayunk walking outside. I want to give you a look at video from yesterday to give you an idea of the entire city, what were dealing with. We were in south philadelphia where they also value a lot of of those small streets that are tough to get to. City Streets Department said that they were not doing trash pickups or trash pickups yesterday and said they were using the trash trucks as plow trucks. 450 vehicles they were deploying across the city to get all of that plowing done o the city also has little bobcats that they use for some of those smaller streets. People were also having to shovel out. Now, in the center city also here in manayunk, a lot of main streets that were plowed, youre growing to see that extra snow pushed up on the sidewalk. That itself is also hard to maneuver if you are a pedestrian. Also because theres that ice that came down over the snow as well. We talked to one guy that was cleaning out his car and hes telling us how its tricky. It was sleeting a lot of day, so its pretty much glued all of the snow to the ground and now its particularly hard to get up. Reporter and you can hear it right here. Its that crunchy sound. Thats the crunchy type of snow youre really going to have to put your all into it with your shovel if you want to get out. A lot of these streets like i said they need some smaller equipment like the bobcat. The city says theyre doing the best they can. 311 is the number to call for a request if you need your street plowed. However, the city is asking that you wait to make those requests until thursday. Another thing to note is if you have a sidewalk in front of where you live, you do have to clear it about six hours after the completion of a storm. Otherwise, you can get a 50 fine. For now reporting live in manayunk, Annie Mccormick, channel6 action news. Back to you. All right, good luck to everybody getting their sidewalks and their cars out from under all the snow today. Thank you, annie. New this morning, utility crews spent the overnight hours cleaning up downed wires in burlington county, new jersey. It happened on south Church Street near Pleasant Valley avenue in mount laurel around midnight. Police believe a passing car snagged the toppled wires taking down the pole and traffic lights. There were no reports of injuries. It is 6 09. The power is slowly returning for some people across our area. Delmarva is reporting less than 13,400 without power in delaware. Pse g reports 2800 outages in south jersey. And Atlantic City electric has made improvement but right now about 2200 customers are still in the dark. Peco has 200 outages. Speaking of the jersey shore flooding was the biggest problem. The storm hit during high tide yesterday morning hammering the coast with high winds and heavy rain. Emergency crews blocked flooded streets in ac. The Fire Department there made a handful of water rescues as drivers tried to test the rising waters and sometimes you lose and people have to risk their lives to come get you. Yeah. David looks like for a lot of people out there this is not going to be a day when you get a lot of relief. Its still going to be cold and ice. Cold and icy yeah and were getting a lot of social media traffic about the lack of traffic in a way. People are saying theyre getting out to their cars and they might have cleared the sidewalks but if you didnt dig around the tires its frozen solid and you have to get a hatchet out there this morning so basically just give yourself some extra time to get going this morning in case you run into problems. Not a lot of precip on storm tracktory, a couple snow showers over by bucks and burlington and trenton. Those are starting to break up. Stepping outside then we have cold conditions as matt and tam said and you really do and want to bundle up. Not only is it cold but the winds are starting to pick up a little bit and theyre going to get Even Stronger after sunrise this morning. 22 degrees is your currents temperature t winds right now out of the westnorthwest at 21 Miles Per Hour. But were looking at potential gusts over 40 Miles Per Hour today. And of course we have issues with areas in the Center Portion of the region and parts of south jersey and delaware with ice on wires and branches. Those strong winds probably bringing down more wires and branches today. 22 degrees in philadelphia currently. Were unin allentown. The wind chills making it feel like its in the Single Digits. Bundle up and cover up as i just tweeted a moment ago and stay that way today as wind chills are going to be in the teens even at the best of times. There you see yesterdays storm spinning away over bangor maine. The precipitation almost out of here but were going to get a strong westerly wind today and there might be a few month are snow showers caught up in that flow. Especially later in the afternoon. Here you see the noon view and its all to the north and west of philadelphia. And then a few snow showers possible. Some spots might even get another inch or two out of this today and of course we have a Winter Weather advisory in the northern burbs with the concern that with all that heavy snow already on the ground more comes down, the winds are whipping around and you could get more visibility problems today. By 6 oclock this is mainly winding down, should be all over by about 8 oclock tonight. Wind chills are going to be a factor though as i mentioned. By noon, still feeling like its in the teens across the central portion of the region and even as late as 3 00 single digit center city up in allentown. Not much better in philadelphia. By dinnertime you still want to cover up and keep those layers going. So, lots of issues today. The first would be blowing snow to the north, maybe a couple of more inches from a snow shower in a few spots. Icy branches from philadelphia south are going to be an issue with the wind perhaps bringing down more of that creating more problems with power. A good reason to keep your cell phone plugged in while youve got the power even if youre talking on it just keep it charging so that youve got a lifeline once that power goes out if it does. And then of course a lot of icy sidewalks and streets. Be careful getting around today. As we take a look at temperatures, were going to climb but not by much and well wait until 5 oclock or 6 oclock before we get our high of 29 today. Your sevenday from accuweather today 29, brisk and cold conditions a passing snow shower not out of the question. Tomorrow lots of sun, a high of 37 but still brisk and chilly and then increasing clouds on Saint Patricks day, a high of 43. At night there could be a little mixed precipitation on friday. And then mostly cloudy with a passing shower on saturday. Saturdays high 48. Northern and western suburbs perhaps a wet snow shower. 44 mainly dry sunday and then back to 46 on monday when the butterfly says springs here. Yeah and then says im getting the heck out of here. [laughter] going to florida. Thanks, david. 6 13. Flames at a fuel pump. We have video of an suv slamming into a gas station sparking a fiery explosion. On thin ice. Chopper6 headed to the scene right now. You see a tow truck and fire crews still on the scene. Theyre blocking all lanes in both directions of route one Baltimore Pike. The accident is northbound here at creek road so a serious accident here if youre in this area, you can stick to smith bridge road as your alternate or 52 to try to avoid the closure of route one Baltimore Pike. So, watch for that closure right now. Were watching for delays heading northbound on Baltimore Pike especially towards that accident scene. This is what it looks like in lionville Chester County route one at 113. Route 100. And you see route 100 still some snow on the roadway but youre seeing part of the blacktop but certainly on the side streets as youre turning you get all the crust and the ice. Lets watch this guy.
