Philadelphia public and archdiocesan schools are closed. So are hundreds of others. The closings are scrolling on the bottom of your screen and also on 6abc. Com. We have our reporters out across the region and from the Lehigh Valley down to new jersey to give you a look at some of the changing conditions. Googood morning everyone its 6 oclock on this tuesday march 14. Well check in with those reporters in a moment. First up lets get the tracking from dave murphy and karen rogers and matt pelman has his eye on all of your roads. Good morning. Is we want to remind you theres still a blizzard warning in effect until 6 oclock tonight in Northern Counties all of these places highlighted in orange. Thats montgomery mercer Berks Chester and points north. Where snow has fallen and continuing to fall especially until about 11 00 this morning or maybe midday before it begins diminish and the winds are also picking up so youre going to get blowing drifting snow up there. In the i95 corridor its still a winter storm warning. We had snow early. Now were starting to mix in a lot of sleet even freezing rain and the snow totals are not together to be what was going of not going to be what was originally projected. Down south light snow getting washed away by a changeover to rain. Heavy snow in the northern and western suburbs and this is actually pushing to the east now through berks county and starting to push in through a good deal of Chester County. However, at the same time if you go farther south of the i95 corridor, you have just some lighter precipitation in the form of basically sleet and then its all rain to the south and i think its pretty obvious that whats happening here is that the low Pressure Center is taking a lot of warm air off the ocean able to should have it up close to philadelphia diminish the snow and give us sleet here and rain there. Lets glets go ahead and take tt wider view and you get a picture of what im talking about. You got that low Pressure Center and it is hugging the coast and it does look like its going to be very close to us as it comes up to about philadelphias latitude by noon and once that happens dry air wrapping around that low, no the coming in off the ocean any more but down from the north is going to cool us down and maybe drive a little bit of snow through the region and in places that are getting the rain and sleet right now but its just not going to be as much snow and i dont see that youre going to get a lot of addition in ally accumulation this afternoon. Northern and western suburbs still a big problem. Karen rogers youve seen this change over the last several hours in philly. Early in the morning we saw the snow piling up kind of quickly out here and then it changed when it changed over to sleet. I have sleet pelting me in the face right now and its that sleet thats reducing our numbers. As you take a look right now we had very quickly about 3inches of snow accumulate overnight but its barely budged since then much weve got about three and a half inches right now and you can see its kind of o an icy mix and thats whats really reducing some of the numbers in spots. I want to show you these temperatures. Raining through much of the area, south of the city and thats because of these numbers. Its 46 cape may 37 millville all along the i95 corridor stretching from just under to just above the freezing mark. Youve got sleet mixing in there. Now in the Lehigh Valley its all snow. Youre just in the 20s. 20 degrees right now in mount pocono so really changing depending on where you are. Wind gusts picking up a bit. 35 miles an hour inly if, 36 wilmington, 33 in Atlantic City airport so the winds will continue to gust through the day. Visibility is an issue in the Lehigh Valley. Half a mile visibility there because of the snow thats coming down. Not a major problem elsewhere. Were now reduced to less than a mile visibility in trenton so thats new coming in right now but not as big of a problem in philadelphia. Lehigh valley northwest suburbs thats where youre hit hardest by the storm taking it region by region youre not getting any of the milder air, not getting the sleet mixing in. Philadelphia and i95 this is the change its sleet a mix of freezing rain and thats cutting our numbers as david has been a talking about four to potentially 8inches. Delaware and southeastern new jersey you had that snow, its now mainly rain and so thats kind of washing away some of the numbers you had. The heaviest, the height of the storm started about 4 00 a. M. Through 10 00 a. M. By 1 oclock its just leftover snow showers. By 4 oclock its much easier to travel. Really depends matt and tam as to where you are. Where im standing now its really blustery and sleet pounding me but not snowing at the moment. A lot of everything. Thanks karen. Lets turn to matt pelman. At least we wont have to look out for any school buses. Thats true. Many of the trash trucks have been converted into snowplows for the morning. Some of our typical things that might slow us down arent out there but we want to remind everybody even if its sleet and freezing rain and you can see some of the blacktop its still very slippery. Vehicle ran off of 95. Its right over that were beyond the penndot truck here in the northbound side by delco by 420. The activity with it off to the side which is an indication where you can see what happens when the road looks mostly passable. On the schuylkill westbound at the vine street expressway theres a truck thats broken down taking out the right lane. Police now assisting. Traffic can get by on the left side headed westbound toward girard. Its slippery here but again, you can see some of the blacktop so were not seeing snow pile up because here where the sleet and the freezing rain is happening right now. This is the tacony section of the city. Cottman avenue, torresdale avenue right by the Boston Market and the sunoco station, some tracks there through the parking lot, tracks on the road as well. It looks really icy out here. Watch it if youre driving and trying to stop at an intersection like that. Look near langhorne bucks county, this is route one the super highway near highland avenue. Just a few cars out here this morning. Overall volume has been very light which we like. A lot of people are off work today. Route one is still mostly covered as you can see and 422 here by route 29 the phoenixvillecollegeville interchange is pretty much completely covered. A few eastbound cars headed in towards oaks but you can barely see any of the road surface here. Time for the plow trains to come through once again. Lets make one last stop about as far west as we can go in thorndale business 30 lincoln highway at bailey road completely snow covered. In the city a lot of wet slippery conditions. Out west its snow covered, tam. All right, thank you, matt. Now lets get up into lehigh county. Lets go to Annie Mccormick. Shes live in South Whitehall township where a really steady snow and wind are the issues. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning, tamala. That wind is picking up. Right now sleet is hitting me right in the face but i want to he should you the plow driver here that is coming to the rescue of the diners here at the trivet diner hes coming through here. Were on tillman street. We are right by the on and off ramp to 309 and as you can see theres more traffic than there has been in the past hour. However, it is still difficult to drive on these roadways. Really only people in four wheel drives and also some of those Sport Utility vehicles are the ones that are able to get through here but this is the first time were seeing blacktop since we actually got up here to South Whitehall township. Now, this is a powdery beautiful snow that you see here on the ground. This is what a lot of people in the Lehigh Valley are going to wake up to but if you go outside now youre not going to have that falling on. Thats you what it has transitioned to sleet. Another problem this is causing is visibility. When we were heading up on the pennsylvania turnpike we were having issues where our windshield wipers were actually freezing up. We had to pull over and then tap them off to make sure they would be cleared so we would be able to see. There were also some whiteout conditions earlier and weve seen plow trains on the turnpike trying to keep those roads clear so people can get through there safely. For now reporting live in South Whitehall township Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Back to you guys. Thank you annie. Very different when with go to mobile6 which is in the philadelphia region. We are on the schuylkill expressway near the girard exit where the philadelphia zoo is which is closed today among a number of other businesses. So down here in the philadelphia region snow, rain and a sleet mixture. So, thats what were looking a the olookingat on mobile6. The action cam along green lane in manayunk overnight. The roads were already covered but some of them might actually be lightning up that snow load with some of this rain thats coming down with a changeover but some residents were already clearing off their cars which is something the folks here at action news will be doing in the parking lot a little bit later. And people in marple township Delaware County waking up to snow covered streets. The action cam there just a short time ago a front loaders are clearing out snow that packed in an acme parking lot. It is 6 09. Lets take a live look from one of our traffic cameras. Look at all the folks that are out right now. Thats the blue route. We have several cars making the Early Morning commute. Some people do have to work today. Thats why were live on the air right now. Well be right back with more snow coverage. jessica i love beneful healthy weight because the first ingredient is chicken. riley man, this chicken is spectacular jessica i feel like when he eats beneful, he turns into a puppy again. You love it, dont you . You love it so much vo try beneful healthy weight with chicken. With real chicken as the number one ingredient. 6 12 now. Its tuesday and david, the rain is coming down in some areas that had some snow ands are reducing some of the snow totals. Thats true over most of south jersey and delaware and we are reducing snow totals in philadelphia as well because that warm air coming in off the ocean has changed things over freezing rain and sleet in the i95 corridor and we now anticipate thats going to be the case for a good portion of the morning. Theres storm tracker6 live double scan image and the one thing i will having said all that for you now is off to the north we still do have that heavy snow and if you are in reading in Lancaster Chester county right now you can see that big bloom of purple on the map and that is the heavy banding snow thats coming down as much as 2inches an hour or maybe even 4inches and hour so you really are accumulating there and we have some places going up close to a foot of snow already and its pretty early in the game. The farther north you are you have the snow. In the 95 corridor that arm wear approaching noreaster is really invading all of south jersey and changing philadelphia over to sleet and some freezing rain now as well. Im not telling you that to say that, hey its no the as snowy so go charging out in the roads. The sleet and freezing rain can make it worse that a and snow but were going to ease those totals back. Despite the fact that its all rain right now down the shore, the winds are picking up. Over the next hour or so well see some very strong gifts. Wind advisory in that effect a down the shore actually a wind warning. 32 trees in philadelphia right now, winds out of the northeast at 25 but thats sustained. Weve got gusts into the 30s in the i95 corridor. Were going to build up to 50 or 60 Miles Per Hour gusts from about philadelphia and then especially down the shore. Temperatures right now in the 20s north and west, freezing mark in philadelphia and again warmer down the shore as you have that warm air coming in you have a the top ooff the topw Pressure Center changing to rain and racing those numbers. Futurfuture tracker6 is missing part of the story. It has snow in philadelphia t as i showed you on radar were into the sleet and freezing rain. It grabs onto that idea by 8 oclock and continues the idea up until 10 oclock o. Youre still looking a the heavy snow with winds building its going to be drifting. In philadelphia probably a lot of sleet and freezing rain and all rain down to the south. Had some snow down to the south early on but its been washed away at this point. By noon thats when we expect the storm system itself to be farther to the north. Winds are starting to wrap down out of the north at that point and thats going to drive drier air and colder air in so two things happen as we get past noon. At noon, yeah, maybe still some heavy snow but after that, you see a diminishing of the snow. There will be snow out there but it wont be as heavy because your slow is going to come down from land instead of the moisture ocean so there wont be as much moisture. It does get colder so places that are seeing some of the rain and sleet might change back over to snow. The problem is its just not going to be that much snow this afternoon so youre heavy your heavy snow chance is in the northern suburbs during the morning afternoon you see how things get colder and we change over to snow farther south but it doesnt really give you that much additional accumulation. So what to expect in the Lehigh Valley northern and western suburbs, nothings really changed. Heavy drifting snow out there. In philadelphia, though, mainly sleet and freezing rain with a little changeover to snow in the afternoon, lighter snow, maybe a little accumulation later and then in central delaware and in much it is mainly rain and here are the new snowfall totals then. This stuff down south dont worry about it, its getting washed away. Were up to about 4inches in some places near the i95 corridor, maybe with hit eight in some spots. I think these numbers as you step farther north are the more likely areas to get heavy snow and just a little example of the warm air and whats happening. Just a little while ago the National Weather service actually shifted its concern from snow or ice down south and its posted an aerial flood advisory for all of south jersey and most of delaware because of the heavy rain that weve been seeing. Heres your exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, todays high is 34 degrees. We do have heavy snow to the north, sleet mixing with some freezing rain in the central portion of the region and then rain down south. Everybody gets strong blustery winds and drifting snow where youre getting the snow. Cold then tomorrow. Again that snow starts to filter out of here later in the afternoon and evening and by tomorrow its cold with a snow shower but really not much additional precipitation. Thursday looks sunny and brisk, 38 on Saint Patricks day and friday night into saturday there could be another mixed precipitation event coming, probably fairly minor. Stick around we want to show you something somebody sent in to us. [laughter] hey, philly. This came from joe in lansdale. Joe. Joe sent in this sno snowtographs that says yo, murph. You have verification we have snow and the phillies a nice thing to think about on a day like this exploits. Send us in pictures or videos. Were just showing you a few of the images weve gotten. Use the 6abcaction on social media or email them directly to us at join the action at 6abc. Com. Thanks a million jay. That was neat seeing the philly phanatic matt and also the realization that many spring starts in less than a week. I know. Its crazy. Boys of summer will be back soon, thats for sure but it is not looking very summerlike in a lot of parts of our region this morning, matt and tam. Across the board roads are slippery but its when you go north and west that were seeing roads that are snow covered. Like here in exton Chester County, this is route 100 at Commerce Drive by the raymour and flanagan and main street exton Shopping Complex and here you dont see much of the blacktop. Need the plows to go through here again. If youre trying to go through this intersection you need to allow plenty of time to come to a stop at the red light because it definitely is snow covered. Still completely snow covered in this part of Chester County. This is near malvern, route 202 at route 29, great valley. There come a few cars headed northbound up toward the schuylkill expressway but 202 all six lanes of it here pretty much completely snow covered at this hour. Outside live again this is a little bit north. This is in north wales Montgomery County, the intersection of stump road and county line road so this is right on the Montgomery Countybucks county line and theres a car waiting for the red light but you can see again mostly snow covered here. Were not seeing a whole lot of blacktop in this part of Montgomery County. Here were seeing a little more blacktop but still some snow coverage as well along woodhaven road close to academy road right on the northeast philadelphia bucks county border close to philadelphia, franklin mills. You can see the traffic moving along okay but there is a little bit of snow covering woodhaven road. Lets stop now in Northern Liberties right by johnny brendas. The snow is still coming down, sleet possible, you can see it in the overhead lights. This is girard avenue at frankford avenue and again you see all the tracks, these secondary roads still have a decent amount of coverage and anyplace youre seeing any sort of coverage, anyplace youre seeing sleet and freezing rain it is going to be slippery. We saw a vehicle that slid right off of i95 here by 420 but it looks like most of the activity with that has cleared out. Matt. Matt thank you. It is really soggy in some spots including where action News Reporter coastal storm center city located. Katherine scott is. She joins us live from runnemede. Reporter pouring rain here for hours, very strong wind gusts. We did see snow here earlier so in some spots very slushy. Taking a look at the black horse pike you can see theres quite a bit of traffic at this hour. Earlier there were fewer cars on the roads. The plows have been through here multiple times. Now the plows that come through have their plows up. Now, of course black horse pike at a main road here in runnemede. Some of the side streets might have a little bit more coverage. You still want to look out for those slippery spots. It did start as snow this morning. Earlier this morning overnight they did see a couple inches of snow in this area but around 3 30 came the pouring rain. There was a bit of a time in those several few hours, there was a transition, very heavy snowflakes kind of a wintry mix. At this stage, though, its just been rain, strong wind gusts here, just messy and sloppy and again, we have seen quite a few cars out as its gotten later but still there are crews out. You do want to be careful. There could be slippery spots on the roads. Live in runnemede, Katherine Scott, channel6 action news. Hold i dont and to that umbrella katherine. Its tuesday and this is where theyre really getting hit by this march noreaster. Its a live look from the action cam at South Whitehall township in the allentown area. Cant even see the pavement and it continues to snow right now. The good thing i love about that picture is we saw one truck come through but in general when weve got up there to annie people have been staying off the roads, karen and matt. Thats right. And even in areas were seeing its not really snowing its an icy mix the wind is picking up, that could be worse for traveling because were getting a mix of freezing rain. Storm tracker region by region and you can see by this were getting a mix of rain, sleet and snow so this is heavy rain in fortescue, millville, elmer, hammonton. That is washing away some of the snowfall you had earlier. Even in glassboro its a mix of rain and sleet. You see the area of blue and some areas reporting freezing rain at Philadelphia International airport. So syou really need to be careful traveling where youre looking at right now along 95. This icing, though, is going to reduce our numbers. So, thats why wear were reducg the numbers in philadelphia and areas south. Coatesville, snow mixing in this and pure snow the farther north and west you go. Lavender showing heavy snow happening right now out to our northwest. So be careful about that. Lets run down the timing with this. Heavy wet snow north and west, heavy rain south and east, mixing along i95. Thattethat area of low pressure tracked further west bringing in the warmer air thats changing our totals but still making it tricky to. At a. The heaviest happening right now through about lunchtime matt pelman so you need to be careful on those roads. What are you seeing out there . Hm. A whole lot of nothing, hm. Tons of traffic troubles for that tuesday trip to work if you have to make eight. New traffic trouble in the west chester area 202 northbound of paoli pike. I showed you 202 in malvern a few minutes ago and i said watch out this road is mostly snow covered. Now just a bit to the south here in the west chester area there is a crash. Looks like a single vehicle, police on the scene there. Also getting word of a new crash in Mercer County 295 northbound approaching 195. Have a broken down vehicle on 195 itself eastbound past coxs corner taking out the left lane. Keep in mind if youre riding mass transit today all the schedules are a little bit funky. N . Ts river line is on a sunday schedule, patco running on a special snow and schedule. Weve got septa regional rails on a saturday schedule today. In fact the begin cynwyd line is not running at all. Norristown high speedline running every 20 minutes. Market frankford line theyve been running all night. Broad street line has been running all night. Theyll run all day. Take the broad street line, that might be your best bet throughout the day today. Matt and tam in thanks for the advice matt. 6 27 on this tuesday. Whether youre seeing snow, sleet or freezing rain, we have you covered. Lets go over to mobile6 out there in center city. This is 23rd and market. You see the wipers going back and forth. We have that mix of icy rain coming down and down on the ground you see a mix of sleet, snow, that crunchy icy stuff thats really easy to slip and slide in. Well be right back with more of your updated accuweather forecast. Now on action news, we are in the midst of a coastal storm that is bringing snow, sleet, freezing rain, high winds and just rain to parts of our region. All philadelphia public and archdiocesan schools are closed today. That complete list of School Closings will be scrolling at the bottom of your screen all morning long. You can also get that list on 6abc. Com. Our team of reporters is covering what theyre seeing out there from the city to the suburbs to south jersey. So good morning. It is 6 30 on this tuesday march 14th. We have full coverage of the storm. Dave murphy and karen rogers have updates from accuweather and matt pelman has a look at traffic. We start with you david. If you are just joining us we are weaking an tweaking and g the forecast. What were seeing right now is warm air coming in off the ocean mainly rain down south that has already washed away most of the snow that youre going to see so no shoveling or very little of it down south even if we do get a wraparound snow shower at the tail end of all this. In the i95 corridor we have it sort of like a Mouth Opening up where we have a wide area where were seeing a lot of freezing rain and sleet. This is not idle weather for driving. You should be planning on staying off the roads but this is going to diminish your snowfall. Were just kind of wasting a lot of precipitation on sleet and freezing rain right now instead of snow so well lower snowfall amounts here. In the northern and western suburbs so youre still getting smacked with some heavy snow. Thats some of it right there highlighted in purple over in reading, lancaster and chester counties. A little bit of it over toward trenton as well and this band is liable to shift toward the east as we go through the next several hours. So, up until about lunchtime continue to see heavy snow wrapping through there. And there is still al blizzard warning in the northern suburbs and thats not only because of the heavy snow that were still getting despite this warm air its not changing over to sleet all that much up here. But weve also got strong winds coming in from the ocean. Theyll be building over the next several hours. A lot of heavy snow on the ground really piling up and then the wind taking it and were starting to see reports of drifting. Again in the i95 corridor its a winter storm warning with sleet, some icy conditions and some snow on the ground and farther south an advisory but really not much of an issue there. The wide view on storm tracker6 live 3d also shows you that that storm is approaching as we were expecting but it is probably hugging the coast a little bit more and that again is putting in a lot of warm air and shoving that changeover line past philadelphia for a good portion of the morning. Karen when you were first on the air when we started at 4 00 you were seeing the snow. Yeah. But youve also seen the change. The snow is really coming down. We saw a bit of freezing rain and sleet as the temperatures really varied. Right now i feel like someone is throwing ice pellets at my face, which is fun. Lets take a look at these numbers. They havent been accumulating very much. First they were accumulating quickly when it was all snow but now were seeing about three and a half inches of snow and you can kind of see it glistening off the top. This is really an icy mix at this point. You see these temperatures. This really tells the story. That area of low pressure went way west and so were drying in the milder air off the ocean, 46 in cape may, 37 in millville. At the freezing mark now along the i95 corridor, temperatures dipped just a little bit but still sleeting but just 20s right now in the Lehigh Valley where its pure snow. We had been saying all along were really following that sleet line and thats whats causing the problems with these numbers. Winds are gusting here, 30 miles an hour in philadelphia but 36 in wilmington, 35 in Atlantic City and were going to see the winds even pick up more through the day. Visibilities only a big issue in the Lehigh Valley where that snow is um canning down heavily. Its less than a mile visibility. We have not yet reached the blizzard criteria of three hours of a quarter mile visibility. But you can see less than a mile visibility in the Lehigh Valley. Heres what you can expect region by region. Because its really changing as the storm progresses, so Lehigh Valley, northwest suburbs youre still getting that snow and youre still getting the drifting snow and thats become more of a problem philadelphia and i95 its a mix of sleet and freezing rain reducing the numbers that we expect but still making it rather icy to travel in. Central delaware and southeastern new jersey mainly rain and thats just warbled away some of the snowfall you already got. Especially until about noon today, matt and tam you really want to be careful as youre heading out. Right now its icy out here and that could make it slippery. Thank you, karen. Lets head to matt pelman because icy never good on the roads, matt. No, that never goes so well, thats for sure. Weve been going slowly as a result to try and prevent accidents but the trend with accidents on a morning like this matt and tam as i have been saying throughout the morning is that they tend to be single vehicle accidents, they tend to be pretty minor in in a itch cherry and they tend to clear out pretty quickly. This one held true to form in the west chester area crash on 202 northbound north of paoli pike its gone within 15 minutes cleared out of the way. We just saw a plow train go through on the southbound side of 202 heading down towards west chester so theyre trying to get those southbound lanes passable as well. In the north and west were seeing snow covered roadways especially the secondary roadways like route 100 by 113 in lionville by the pizzeria uno. You cant really see a whole lot of the blacktop here. The road is pretty much completely snow covered. You really have to up your travel time this morning, up the distance between you and the car in front of you and drop your speed but once you get into the city right here pie eakins oval, ben franklin parkway, Spring Garden street youre seeing more blacktop t its more of a slushy mess here by the art museum and by the way the art museum is closed for the day today because of the wintry weather. Mercer county a you believe can accidents. One on 295 northbound by 195 blocking a lane. Its also a broken down vehicle on 195 itself so left lane is out of which asian there. Matt. Thank you, matt. Jeff chirico is watching conditions get soggier by the second. He joins us live from the citys West Mount Airy section. Thats right we have been seeing sleet here for a couple hours right now. I woke up just after 2 oclock this morning, snow was coming down pretty well. We had a couple singes as you can see we have a couple inches of snow right here but around 4 oclock we started to see a changeover to a sleet and freezing rain mix and that has really reduced the snow accumulation here. It also gave a the plows here on germantown avenue a chance to get ahead of the game, to be able to clear much of the roadway. Now, about an hour ago you saw some pavement underneath here but within the past 30 minutes we started to see a layer of blight. I just went out there when traffic was not passing by to feel it and it feels mostly like ice pellets and not snow. Of course that is slippery either whether youre driving on it or whether youre walking on it. While the totals of accumulation just arent adding up to some of the earlier expectations we are continuing to see some heavy sleet falling and in continues to make some of the travel a little bit dangerous. That said, weve seen the septa buses going by continuing to go by all morning in fact more septa buses than cars on the road here on germantown avenue. Reporting live in West Mount Airy jeff chirico channel6 action news. Thank you jeff. Lets take a ride on mobile6 live, were on north broad street heading into north philadelphia and a little traffic light and you see some Traffic Building out there and you see the rain droplets falling on the wind shed. If you work for the city of philadelphia offices will be opening on a delay today at 10 00 a. M. But again philadelphia schools are closed just like many others across the region. The action cam caught a wintry scene along lancaster avenue at ardmore overnight. Plows had been busy clearing out parking lots to try to stay ahead of that snowfall. Now lets head up to where were really seeing a lot of snow, thats up in the Lehigh Valley. Action News Reporter an into em is live in South Whitehall township. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning tamala. Almost on cue for my live shot those wind gusts just really picked up. You can feel that sleet and snow really pelting you in the face. Take a look behind me, you can see how snow covered the roadway is here. This is tillman street right by the on and off ramps of 309. This is the first time were beginning to see real traffic. Thats because weve seen so many of those snowplow trains come through. Now, . You have the a half hour ago, this blacktop right here, you could see it. Thats when one of the plows came to clear this drive way here at the trivet dine are but already within the half hour, this is how much snow were seeing fall. The came that we came out to this morning is this powdery snow and theres several inches of it. With our action news ruler were measuring anywhere from three to 5inches in this area. Now that snow has changed to the sleet and wintry mix. Well pan over. Theres one of those big snowplows that are really making a difference on the roads especially here on tillman street but theyre asking people to abide by the speed restrictions that are on a you can in of roads around this area. That does include the turnpike and earlier it took us 45 minutes longer than it normally would to get up here from bala cynwyd and were he can tell you that right now even though those streets, that those turnpikes might be a little bit more clear than when we came up they still dont want a lot of people on the roads because as we show you the snow continues to fall and stick on the roads. Annie mccormick channel6 action news. Back to you. Thank you annie. A soggy scene along the boardwalk in Atlantic City. Thats just even miss and rabble the look at. You can imagine that cold driving rain piercing through your clothes. A cold rain has been falling steady all morning long and the bigger story at the shore is the strong wind gusts. Very cold chilly and wet out there right now. New jersey has declared a state of emergency in pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has signed a disaster emergency proclamation. Governor tom wolf is deploying members of the national guard. Our average o coverage contih a an area where weve seen snow continue to accumulate. Stay with us. Well give you the latest when we come back. Welcome back. Youre taking a look out here. It is the blue route i476 in broomall where you can see cars slowly making their way on the ground weve got a mix of sleet, icy rain and snow. Not fun stuff to drive in. Changes with the coastal storm. Heres david. Yeah, looks like the storm is tracking a little closer to the coast bringing in mild air and we have snow on the ground in philadelphia but were starting to see an awful lot of sleet. Storm tracker6 live double scan those that to you. That big swath of blue is sleet and freezing rain. The fact that were seeing that sleet pushing in with the warm air coming up from the coast does mean well have to lower snow totals boohoo but in the northern suburbs the places where you see all snow allentown reading a good portion of Montgomery Chester and northern chest northern bucks county, i should say out towards lancaster all of those places are still getting hammered with snow and youll still get probably up over a foot totals in a lot of those spots. The purple is the really heavy banding snow really just sitting over a lot of berks county, Chester County and Lancaster County currently. Look at all that rain down to the south. In it snow that fell earlier there is and washed away. Taking a look outside we have sky6 at the shore. Every now and then we have been watching the camera bounce around because the secondary issue we have involves the wind that is going to be getting stronger over the next couple hours as that coastal storm comes up the coast and we get the center of it nearby. Cool air in place in the northern and western suburbs, real easy for the snow to accumulate and thats what we have got, over 10inches in some spots and thats reports that came in and a couple hours ago. Were waiting for a new round of them. Well be up over a foot in some of those northern areas. A 32 in philadelphia. In some areas close to i95 but not accumulating much in the last couple hours with the sleet and then down the shore its all rain with that milder air coming in you have a the ocean. Future tracker6 shows you that this sort of pattern that he were see on radar right now is probably what were going to get for a good portion of the morning. By 10 oclock youre still looking at that mixed precipitation, not really full fledged snow near i95 near philadelphia. Rain still a main issue down south with probable minor flooding and poor drainage areas because of the intensity rain but up north 10 oclock still looking at heavy snow and continuing to look that way all the way up to noon. Now, at noon things start to change. The center of the storm gets up close to philadelphias latitude. The winds are no longer coming in off the ocean. Bringing in warm air. Theyre coming down from the north so watch what happens the rest of afternoon. Cold air sweeps down and we do change over to snow but notice how its not as heavy. Thats because theres drier air up here. There will be some moisture to make some snow but anything you see after about noon is going to be lighter and then maybe it pops through and gives us just a little additional accumulation but thats going to be it. So, that afternoon portion of the storm if snow does come back probably only gives you a you believe cold front extra couple of extra inches and thats it. With the winds building we still have the possibility of a lot of drifting snow and very poor and and visibility. Blizzard warning still in effect in the northern suburbs until 6 oclock because of that drifting snow. Heavy rain will be the story southeast and then along i95 we are seeing some mixing and again the heaviest of all of this is between now and noon. What are we expecting on the ground . We have shifted all of these lines farther to the north and now i think four to 8inches somewhere around there is probably likely in philadelphia with a lot of you on the lower end. This stuff dont worry about it, its been washed away. Its those northern suburbs though where we are still looking at the higher snowfall amounts. Still a pretty decent snow up there certainly. In your seven day 34 today, heavy snow mixing with sleet in the center of the region rain down south and everybodys got building winds over the next several hours and through the afternoon. Then tomorrow cold, 30 degrees, maybe a spotty snow shower, thats it. Thursday sunny and brisk, partly sunny on friday and then friday night into saturday theres the chance of some mixed precipitation. It doesnt look like a super big event right now. All right, thanks, david. Yup. Time now to also figure out what is going on with those roads out there with all this slushy sleet, icy stuff. Weve got matt pelman for that.
