In another heavily disputed and very close race republican senator pat toomey won reelection. He overcame a hard charging challenge from democrat Katie Mcginty. The race was just a wash in money, 160 million to be exact a historic amount spent between the two candidates. A lot of it coming from National Party organizations and super pacs in d. C. And ended up in our pockets, right with all those ads. Senator toomey beat mcginty with 49 percent of the vote compared to the democrats 47 percent helping retain the republican majority in congress. Now, republican senator pat toomey only won by two Percentage Points over Katie Mcginty. This is also the most expensive u. S. Senate race in history. Well, the race is another one that went into the Early Morning. Senator toomey took the stage around 1 40 this morning after receiving a call from mcginty. Candidates spent 160 million. Of course some of that money from pacs as well on this race. Negative and positive ads filled air waves and the internet. Now senate incumbent toomey had a huge amount of support from turnout in rural areas. He kept his distance from donald trump throughout the campaign. However, in the end he did vote for him. This will be the senators second term. Katie mcginty who held a number of high profile jobs in washington and harrisburg fought a tougher campaign and early this morning congratulated toomey. Lets face it. This was a tough campaign. This was quite a battle. There was an alltime record amount of money spent against us. A lot of ads were just outright false. But you know, the voters were smart enough to figure it out as they usually are. Senator toomey and i have disagreed on a few things. But this i know. The senator has serveed this commonwealth and he is raising a beautiful family in this commonwealth. He has earned and deserves our gratitude and respect. And i wish him gods blessings and godspeed. Voters in new jersey had two constitutional amendments o ballot. Voter said yes to requiring that every penny of the states new gas tax be used exclusively for transportation cost. This dedicates money from the 23cent hike towards bridge Road Construction and transit improvements. New jersey voters rejected expanding casino gambling beyond atlantic city. The ballot question asked whether to authorize the construction of two new casinos in separate counties in the northern part of the state. It was soundly defeated. It is 6 09 and democratic congressman john carney has won the delaware governors race. Carney defeated republican colin bonini 58 to 39 percent. The action cam was there as carney thanked his supporters at the Double Tree Hotel in wilmington last night. He promised to address gun violence education and state employee healthcare. In his victory speech he said it was time for the country to bind the wounds of division. He pledged to be a president for all americans even addressed those who did not support him. Live on the vine street expressway westbound traffic really jamming up as you head towards the schuylkill. Still pretty dry on the vine but westbound jamming approaching the schuylkill. Eastbound youve got some building volume out there. And on the big picture you can see the rain moving in from the west so the blue route, the schuylkill among the first highways to get wet out there. Looking at some slow speeds on the schuylkill westbound near the boulevard 12 miles an hour. Weve got that accident we talked about on the boulevard and how about i95 . Southbound traffic 16 miles an hour already jammed approaching academy to cottman and the betsy ross bridge to girard. So a lot going on with the highways right now. All right thank you karen. Lets stick with chopper6 above that scene in wilmington delaware. This is the the mill fire there in wilmington. Look at how massive this fire is just so much area that it is covering. It has been burning since about 3 oclock this morning. Were told this is a facility that had Leather Goods and barrels in there probably a lot of matter that was flammable. Weve had fire crews out there coming from a number of companies trying to get this thing knocked down but you can see flames from one ends of the screen to the other and then black smoke going into the Early Morning sky. Really looks like its been destroyed and the action cam was there as a portion of this building collapsed. Lets take a look at that. Part of the structure just falls to the ground. Firefighters have been lat ling this fire battling this fire since 3 a. M. Again this is a large old mill warehouse. Fire companies are coming from all over the state of delaware and also some Fire Companies from pennsylvania and chester and delaware counties trying to put this plays out but as you saw there live from chopper6 it is still on fire right now.
