Issues with the septa Regional Rails particularly the paoli thorn theyll Regional Rail line not running this morning between thorndale and malvern because of lingering amtrak wire issues from yesterday. Someone shot a 47yearold man while that man was walking in the citys West Oak Lane section overnight. A spray of bullets from this incident also shot out a cars rear window. Police rushed that man to the hospital. Hes in serious but stable condition. The overnight gunfire erupted on the 2000 block of chelten avenue. Just a few blocks away from that scene another shooting but this one left residents horrified trying to help a sixyearold girl shot and bleeding on the street. The child was playing outside her hem on the 6300 block of woodstock street and at least two different guns began to blast shooting at least 21 bullets through the air. That child was shot under her left arm. Bystanders rushed to offer aid until she could be transported to einstein hospital. Were told that she is currently in Critical Condition. Well have more coming up on this in a live report in our next half hour. And this is new. A man driving a stolen car with a threeyearold boy inside crashed in southwest philadelphia. The man lost control and struck a parked mercedes that careen need a parked truck. It happened at 8 30 last night near 63rd street and eastwick avenue. The boy was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. The driver who is in his 20s was seriously injured and investigators say when hes released from the hospital hell be turned over to face charges with police. Family and friends paid tribute to the threeyearold girl killed in a car crash in kensington on monday night. Loved ones placed stuffed animals and candles for Esther Palmer at second and west york streets last night. Police say the 17yearold driver in the striking vehicle ran a red light and may have been racing a third car that left the scene. Detectives are searching for a late 1990s black honda accord. We are remembering a Childrens Television icon this morning. The man known as captain noah died yesterday at the age of 90. W. Carter merbreier was a beloved colleague here at 6abc. He and his wife pat cohosted the syndicated tv series captain noah and his magical arc for nearly 28 years. Katherine scott is live at the art museum with more on the fond memories captain noah left behind. Katherine. Reporter matt and tam so many people grew up with captain noah over the years he he had many special guests on his show including jim henson, Charles Barkley and elvis press he lee but it was captain noahs kind and gentle demeanor that kept kids coming back for decades. Captain noah was a hero to a lot of usism his real name was Carter Merbreier but all the kids knew him as captain noah. He died at his home in audubon pennsylvania tuesday after a short illness. He was 90. He was like family to the kids and they felt comfortable. Reporter merbreier grew up in Delaware County attended penn then seminary at temple university. In 1967, captain noah and his magical arc began airing on 6abc. A show merbreier created and cohosted with his wife patricia who died in 2011. What a great show. He taught kids how to share and we need more shows like that on tv. Reporter at its peak in the early 70s the show drew a larger local philadelphia audience than both captain kangaroo and sesame street combined there were puppets cartoons and of course the songs. A sixyearold girl lies in a hospital bed right now as doctors try to save her life. She was shot while playing just steps from her front door in the West Oak Lane section of the city. And matt thats right, the sixyearold girl was just playing outside of her home when she was hit by a stray bullet. Now, police say it hit her underneath her left armpit. Now shes in Critical Condition inside Saint Christophers Hospital. Well, take a look at this video. Action news was there as the young victim was transferred to Saint Christophers Hospital for children from einstein hospital where medics initially took her and where doctors were able to stabilize her. A barrage of gunfire broke out around 7 00 p. M. In the 6300 block of North Woodstock in West Oak Lane. The sixyearold was playing outside of her home when she was hit under her arm by that stray bullet and investigators believe at least 21 bullets were fired from two weapons at a nearby intersection. Well, action news spoke with police and also a neighbor who ran to help the little girl who he he says he saw in a pool of blood. We found 21 spender shell case spent shell casings and they are of two separate calibers. That means at least two weapons were used. Walked down here and saw the little girl on the ground pleading and i offered the person my rag so they could apply pressure, stop the bleeding. Thats when the officers pulled up. Reporter now, police really need the publics help. At this point they only have a vague description of one shooter in a white tshirt but they do believe again that two people were involved because of two separate weapons. They are looking at surveillance cameras in the area but remember, you can remain anonymous in the city of philadelphia if you have any information and you can have a tip that could lead to the arrest of the person or people that shot this little sixyearold girl. New this morning a man is in Critical Condition after being shot in New Castle County delaware. Gun shots rang out on scarborough road in elsmere at 11 00 last night. Police say the gunman shot the victim in the stomach he is being treated at christiana hospital and police are still searching for the shooter. New this morning, a septa worker collapsed on the job but rather than freeze in fear his coworkers instead pitched in to save his life. The scary incident happened at the septa trolley stop at woodlawn and bartram avenues yesterday morning. Collingdale Police Officer and paramedics got to the scene to find three septa workers performing cpr on john thompson. The right place at the right time happened to know what was going on. I didnt do anything myself. It was definitely one great big group effort. The Collingdale Police chief says the septa workers likely saved thompsons life. Thompsons family says he suffered a heart attack and that hes currently in critical but stable condition. And day two of testimony begins in just a few hours in the perjury trial of Pennsylvania Attorney general kathleen kane. Prosecutors argued the states top lawyer had a feud with chief Deputy Attorney general frank fina before he left for the Philadelphia District attorneys officers. And that the feud reportedly led her to direct staffers to leak confidential documents meant to smear fina. Police say one man was taken to the hospital due to that speeding car but no one appears to have been hurt in the gun play. The demonstration was to mark the second anniversary of the death of Michael Brown the unarmed black 18yearold fatally shot by a white Police Officer. Also new a florida woman was accidentally shot and killed by an officer during a selfdefense class. It happened yesterday during a two hour Training Session called the Citizen Police academy. The Punta Gorda Police chief says 73yearold Mary Knowlton was taking part in a role playing scenario when she was mistakenly struck with a live round.
