Our very own Matt Odonnell heads our Team Coverage from the Wells Fargo Center in south philadelphia. Well have more on whats happening today. And former president bill clinton he was the big speaker last night. He also got a taste of philadelphia night life. Well give you details on what was the hottest ticket in town. First up lets find out just how hot its going to be. We sent dave murphy outside in a suit jacket and karen rogers is inside taking a look all right traffic. Good morning. Its actually not terrible this morning and its not going to be that bad later this afternoon although it does look like heat wave day six is on tap. First of all light shower activity in south jersey and delaware. This is pretty light not having major impact on roads butter in some cases s in salem come lands counties New Castle County delaware and now Gloucester County there is the chance of some roads being slightly wet and it looks like most of this stuff stays to the south of philadelphia today. That little batch will be done toward the end of the rush hour. The wide view shows you a lot of cloud cover out to the west and additional showers and well continue to keep our eyes out for an additional shower or thunderstorm later this afternoon particularly south of philadelphia. The farther north you go the more chance you have of bright sunshine this morning. Temperatures 77 degrees in philadelphia, 77 in millville, 80 in wilmington. 74 in trenton. 68 in allentown and 75 currently in cape may and check out the difference that we have across the region in dewpoints. Only in the mid 60s in philadelphia. Thats not all that humid air but the farther south you go you get back into the 70s and that is very humid air and thats the way its going stay today. Stickier down south, drier up north. 88 degrees by noon. Todays high is 91 by 3 oclock so well just barely get into heat wave territory. You got to see 90 or better to keep it going but humidity across most of the region should behave itself today. We have higher humidity across the region tomorrow with the chance of some additional strong thunderstorms tomorrow night. Details on that coming up, karen. All right dave were already starting to see delays even at this early hour on i95 southbound. You can see the traffic here heavy from the betsy ross bridge to girard and thats because of the Police Check Point up ahead near the vine street expressway. So, the Police Checkpoint near the vine and also northbound on i95 near the exit for the platt and the schuylkill and what theyre checking for is vehicles over 5 tons that arent allowed to travel through those points because of the dnc so seeing those slow downs already. In addition to the Police Checkpoints we expect rolling closures of i95 at some point today when we have the motorcade for the president and Vice President to travel through to the dnc so were going to see problems here on i95 and already seeing delays with 16, 14 miles an hour on i95 southbound. In Hopewell TownshipMercer County weve got a downed tree right now thats causing problems. It also brought down some wires. River road between Fiddlers Creek and church roads. You can stick to bear tavern road as your alternate. Still looking at that delay on i95 and you see problems here through the area. Well be watching for those delays and rolling closures because of the dnc. Now we had there live with Matt Odonnell. Thanks so much karen. He has Campaign Stops in florida wisconsin and then ohio. Meteorologist, david murphy of course tracking forecast. To tell us relief is on the way. Before the end of the week. Storm tracker6 live double scan tam and gray shows theres a little bit of green on the radar this morning. These are light showers for the most part. Darker shades of green thats definitely getting the roads a little wet. Lighter shades of green probably just a real light spritz or drizzle and most of this is moving out of the majority of New Castle County delaware and focusing mainly on southern Gloucester County, cumberland county, salem county and now pushing into parts of Atlantic County and maybe just the northern tip of New Castle County, delaware. If we go out wider, most of area is dry and we are expecting most of our rain today to stay down south. Obviously that current little batch will be through the region probably by the end of the rush hour. As we take a look outside we have cloudy skies over philadelphia with a few sunny breaks starting to build in. And thats going to be the story. A mix of sun and clouds today, with more clouds to their to th. More sun to the north. 77 degrees in philadelphia current. It is dry in the city. Wilmington drying out, 80 degrees there. 68 in allentown, 74 in trenton and 75 currently in cape may. Humidity not too bad from about philadelphia north but the farther you go south through delaware and south jersey the stickier it feels. The showers that were seeing right now are probably off the board after about eight or 9 oclock and then we get into the afternoon and the model is putting some additional showers and perhaps a thunderstorm down to the south and you see some more of that by 5 30 this afternoon. Looks like it will be done by about seven or 8 oclock so if you are in south jersey down the beach perhaps or in delaware today and you see the skies turning gray and ominous or you hear a rumble of thunder its out of the pool right away and off the beach. 92 degrees up in the lehigh valley. Not expecting any rain up there. Still hot, more sunshine up north. Not very humid but a high of 92. Down the shore especially the farther south you go down the coast it will still feel pretty muggy. 84 is the high though and thats not too bad and in philadelphia a high of 91 degrees. Not as intense heatwise nor as humid as the last several days. But still hot enough for cool drinks. Your exclusive accuweather 7day, todays high 91, day six of the heat wave not all that humid in philadelphia. More humid down south and in those southern areas a chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm today. Tomorrow the humidity returns across most of the region. It will be more humid in general, a high of 93 and late in the day or evening there is the chance of a strong gusty thunderstorm. Then friday not as hot, thats the end of the heat wave with a high of 85 degrees but it will still be warm and muggy and theres still the chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm through the day. For the weekend mid 80s, warm, muggy a couple of thunderstorms possible but not a washout. Hopefully dry for the union match sunday night in chester and then monday and tuesday still in the 80s and lower humidity in all likelihood. Things are getting better. Good. Thank you david. Theyre checking for vehicles over 5ton and not allowing them to travel on i95 through philadelphia. So, this is the jamup were seeing because of that. This is southwest philadelphia i95 and this is your northbound traffic right here headed towards the Police Checkpoint thats at the exit for the platt bridge and the schuylkill expressway. So, already jamming from bartram avenue to the platt bridge on i95. On monday it took people hours to drive in from delaware into the city. Yesterday the delays werent quite as extensive so well just have to see how many people avoid it and travel a different way or a different time. But right now youre traveling at best 22 miles an hour approaching that checkpoint and also really jammed on i95 southbound. Weve been seeing these delays coming out of the northeast all week as well. Now traveling about 13 miles an hour southbound on i95 from the betsy ross bridge to girard so jamming up northbound and southbound on i95. Now i want to show you this. Hopewell township Mercer County we he had a downed tree it has cleared brought down trees and wires but river road is back opened so better news. Here in the commuter traffic report j. J. Is up reporting an accident on welsh road in Montgomery County so thats on the waze app. Its not entirely dry through the region. Storm tracker6 live double scan showing some showers south of the city so were seeing it in newark. They were in wilmington and now over to 49 right now near millville. Route 55 getting pretty wet. Elmer and glassboro showing some wet roads. And we can see in Cape May County check on the conditions there right now and this is the garden state parkway at the cape may toll plaza where those showers may be headed. Might get a little wet there. We head back to the dnc lie with Matt Odonnell. Hey, matt. Hello karen. This is southwest philadelphia. The platt bridge by i95. Expect some extra traffic on the platt, the schuylkill, the vine because of the Weight Restrictions and delays well likely see on i95. Dont forget the broad street subway youll see extra riders this week because of the dnc and because of safety concerns the past couple afternoons they havent been running between oregon and at t so well have to see what develops with that. 10 minutes away with thelansdaly with the Lansdale Doylestown line. Dave. Continuing to track light nuisance showers pushing out of delaware into south jersey. Looks like during the morning commute youll see a little bit of this coming through. Not a super big impact but something that might slow you down slight. For the commuter forecast in philadelphia probably try, 77 degrees by 7 oclock with those showers looking like they want to stay all down south in south jersey and delaware. 10 oclock 81 degrees, 88 by noon. This afternoon well continue the heat wave but just barely. Well get a high of 91 about 3 oclock. Humidity remains on the lower and manageable side in philadelphia but the farther south you go in through south jersey and delaware the more humid it will feel today. And tam, there could be a you believe can of more popup showers and thunderstorms in south jersey and delaware. Good to know. Thank you david. Trump tweeted last night i hate to say it but the Republican Convention was far more interring than the democratic convention. Trump always quick to respond on twitter. Tam, gray back to you. Im Hillary Clinton and i approved this message. Who do you talk to for military advice right now . Well, i watch the shows. I mean i really see a lot of great you know, when you watch your show and all of the other shows. While donald trump watched tv, as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton negotiated a cease fire in gaza. A reduction in nuclear weapons. Took on vladimir putin. And stood up against the trafficking of human beings. A steady leader in an unsteady world. And i cant believe we just put the biggest crack in that Glass Ceiling yet. Now on action news Hillary Clinton makes history. The former secretary of state telling young girls last night she may become the first woman president but one of them is next. Good morning, its 6 30 now on this wednesday july 27th, im tamala edwards. Gray hall is joining me and Matt Odonnell is leading our dnc coverage live from the Wells Fargo Center. Good morning, matt. Good morning, tam, good morning gray. She has been the democratic frontrunner throughout the campaign and now Hillary Clinton officially leads the ticket plus her husband who could become the nations first first man gets personal about their relationship. Our reports from the dnc begin in moments. Matt, thank you so much. Also in the news breaking he details on fence jumpers arrested outside the convention. First up lets go out to dave murphy find out just how warm it will be today and karen rogers has the news you need when it comes to traffic. Good morning. Feeling pretty good out here right now on the terrace. We have cloud cover blocking out the sun which helps actually make it feel a little more comfortable and humidity in philadelphia isnt too bad more humid down south though and radar shows we have also have sprinkles and showers passing through glassboro and points south down to millville a little bit of trailing stuff back in newark delaware and salem. And thats going to be an issue for the next couple hours down south of philadelphia. Then out to the west there are additional showers and well keep watching for those. Most of these will probably pass through south of philadelphia a shower or a thunderstorm possible off and on through the day. 77 degrees and dry in philadelphia right now, mainly cloudy. Up in allentown, 68. A little clearer up to the north and down in millville 77 degrees currently and more clouds the farther south you go. Also check out dewpoints. Theres a real difference across the region. In philadelphia dewpoint of 65 just moderate humidity. Anything between 60 and 65 not too bad. But when you get up over 70 it starts feeling tropical and we still have heavy humidity down in millville all the way down to the shore and a good portion of south jersey and delaware covered by that. Its going to be hot again today with a high of 91 at 3 oclock but humidity in philadelphia should remain manageable and it will be heat wave number six but weve had worse days in this heat wave than dam looks like another hot one tomorrow, more humid, too and perhaps some thunderstorms before of the heat wave arrives karen. Ill have details on all of that coming up. All right, dave. We are already seeing delays on i95. You can see how heavy this southbound traffic is at this point from Bridge Street to approaching the vine and thats because of the Police Checkpoints there not allowing any vehicles over 5 tons to continue further south on i95. This is the other end of the delay, the check on i95 northbound approaching the platt bridge where the check point is up ahead towards the platt bridge. Again, not allowing those 5ton vehicles ahead. So look youre already jammed on i95 northbound from bartram avenue to platt bridge. So feeling the effects of the dnc with those Police Checkpoints. Now were looking live at the schuylkill expressway. No big problem just yet. This is your westbound traffic there. Were looking live at University Avenue and thats your traffic heading towards the vine street expressway. And you want to expect extra traffic on the schuylkill and the vine because of the restrictions on i95. Now heres a look at 422. A little building volume eastbound coming in from pottstown or limerick. No big delay yet. Hopping one more time into new jersey, weve been talking about showers in new jersey but at this. 42 looking pretty good. Thats northbound traffic coming from turnersville or deptford with no delay. Now lets head over to Matt Odonnell at the dnc. Matt. Thanks so much karen. Philadelphia the nations birthplace played host to another historic moment. It happened right here at the Wells Fargo Center last night as the Democratic Party officially nominated a woman. Hillary clinton to run for president. And i cant believe we just put the biggest crack in that Glass Ceiling yet. Hillary clinton delivered a live video message from new york pumping up the crowd and even bringing some to tears. She thanked the delegates for all their support hadnt a special message for all of the little girls who were watching at home. Her husband former president bill clinton played the part of political spouse and touted his wifes more than 40 years of Public Service calling it a labor of love that will benefit everyone. Some people say, well, we need a change. Shes been around a long time. She sure has. And she sure has been worth every single year shes put into making peoples lives better. [cheers and applause] the former president added his wife gained praise from both republicans and democrats during ler tenure as the r from new york and secretary of state. Not everyone at the convention was happy the moment Hillary Clinton became the official nominee. Plus some people tried to jump a security fence at the arena. Action News ReporterJeanette Reyes joins us live with that part of the story. Jeanette. Reporter good morning, matt. Yesterday was really like a drama field day. A lot going on of course inside of the Wells Fargo Center but also outside there was a spontaneous demonstration and several people arrested for trying to jump a fence. Take a listen or watch rather this video that we were able to get of those fence jumpers. We know that several were arrested but first i want to get to the protests. Infuriated delegates walked out when bernie made his announcement to switch his delegates to clinton. Sports swarmed a media tent chanting the world is watching. Others had their mouths taped shut and some sang this land is your land. Now, thats just one of the main protests in support of Bernie Sanders that weve seen around the city of philadelphia. There have been at least two or three of them per day and its really attracted the most people out of all the demonstrations weve seen throughout the week. Other organizations have also taken to the streets of philadelphia all of them really trying to take advantage of the spotlight the dnc has brought to the city. Take a listen. It was good that deb he bee Wasserman Schultz stepped down. That was a good positive first step but they need to be more forward, more open, more transparent. I thought you a fighting a fair fight in the field and it wasnt. Reporter and yesterday was really just a busy day for authorities here trying to keep everything secure. We understand that around 8 30 in the evening four people tried to jump a fence and get in a secret Service Secure zone they were not able to get inside of wells fargo but they were arrested and taken to a nearby detention center. They are set to be before a judge today in just a couple of hours. Well let you know how that turns out. Reporting live outside of the Wells Fargo Center je reyes channel6 action news. Matt. Thanks jeanette. And for tonight the democrats will continue rolling out their star players reason going right to the top. The country will get its first prime time production of virginia senator tim kaine clintons running mate and yes, he might deliver a portion of his speech in spanish. Also president obama and Vice President joe biden will deliver prime time speeches. Former Philadelphia Police commissioner Charles Ramsey will deliver remarks earlier in the program. Hillary clintons november opponent wont be too far away from this Convention Site today. Lets head back to the studio and gray hall for that. Gray. Okay, matt, thank you. Time now 6 37. Today donald trump will hold a town hall at Lackawanna College in scranton at the veterans of Foreign War Convention he knocked democrats for not talking specifically about isis at their convention. Trump also went a step further to blame democrats for the creation of that terror group. You didnt hear it. They dont wander to talk about it. Because in a very true way they really established isis because of weakness. This morning trump will campaign in florida before heading here to pennsylvania. The hot ticket last night was to a convention after party at philadelphias Reading Terminal market. Take a look at some new video of former president bill clinton arriving at the after party early this morning. It was a party being held in his honor. About 2,000 people were invited to dance the night away. Live coverage of the dnc continues for you all morning long and later today. You can count on the Action News Team led by jim gardner to bring you all the angles of this historic event right up to that closing gavel tomorrow. Hot today but some rain on the way right david. Yeah, in parts of the region. Storm tracker6 live double scan right now gray shows you down to the south there are a couple of sprinkles. That green that you see north of city of philadelphia just ground clutter. A batch of shower activity that was centered about an hour ago in New Castle County delaware. Now its shifted over towardsthe 55, the Atlantic City expressway starting to get wet in a couple of spots and this is really just light shower activity. Every now and then it gets a little moderate. Not the kind of rain thats going to put ponding and puddling on the roads but it might slow you down a little bit with that slightly wet road condition. Later today theres a chance of additional showers and even a popup thunderstorm mainly in the southern areas. As we take a look outside we have cloudy skies with a few breaks now over the ben franklin bridge and generally speaking the farther north you go through the region right now, the more sun and clearing that youre starting to see, the farther south, the more clouds and the farther south the more humid it is, too. In philadelphia it actually doesnt feel that bad. Temperature 77 degrees. Your dewpoint at 65 which is somewhat noticeable humidity. Anything over 60 on the dewpoint scale does indicate humidity but you got to go up to 70 before you get oppressive humidity and we have to go pretty far south to get that south of the southern south jersey and delaware thats where its stickier condition right now. Winds out of the northeast at 5 miles per hour. As we take a look at future tracker as we go through the morning and into the afternoon, there is that chance of an off and on shower or thunderstorm. This latest model run positions most of this down to the south of philadelphia. Does look like by 3 30 theres a bit more of that and then by 5 30 or 6 00 were probably still looking at at least some spotty showers and thunderstorms. Now this isnt going to be all day but if youre in the pool or on the beach if you hear thunder and see the skies going gray head in off the beach or get out of the pool. Looks like about 7 oclock its all over. The other part of the story is the continuation of the heat wave. Its not going to be as easily attained today. The numbers will be lower but it does look like well get into the 90s for a few hours this afternoon. By noon 88. By 3 oclock 91. Thats your high today. And then 85 by 5 oclock. Also a you get down into south jersey and delaware its more humid today but up in philadelphia and points north not so humid as its been the last several days. 91 is the high in philadelphia, 91 in wilmington, 92 in allentown, 93 today in reading and 91 in trenton. Looks like were in the 80s over most of south jersey with the thicker cloud cover and occasional rain. 84 on the beach in cape may. And the closeup view down the shore shows a lot of mid 80s all the way down to cape may and through bethany beach. U. V. Index running high especially the farther north you go along the coast where youre liable to see a little more sun. Your exclusive seven day in philadelphia a high today of 91, some sun, more sun to the north, less to the south and it will be hot and more humid in southern areas where that shower or thunderstorm chance exists today. Then thursday hot and more humid everywhere. 93 is the high. Theres a chance of a strong thunderstorm in the evening or later at night and then friday finally we break the heat wave, we get down into the mid 80s. It will still be warm and muggy with a spotty shower or thunderstorm but at least that higher high in the 90s will be over. And for the cominnd a little humid, mid 80s, a spotty thunderstorm saturday sunday but not a washout. Hoping for dry conditions for that sunday night union match. That would be good. Thank you. It is 6 41. Up next another update from Matt Odonnell who is lie at the dnc. Hell tell you about some brave mothers who shined light on some of their darkest days and a call to End Gun Violence in america. Later a little known delegate gets a lot of attention during roll call. Bernie sanders brother. A disabled vehicle causing a little problem just cleared on i95 approaching woodhaven road. Were seeing delays on i95. Ill take you live to the Police Checkpoints when action news comes right back. Its a Pretty Simple question is pat toomeys agenda your agenda . Toomey voted seven times to defund planned parenthood. He even tried to shut down the federal government in order to eliminate funding for planned parenthood. And toomeys against a womans right to choose and supports overturning roe v. Wade which would allow states to criminalize abortion. Pat toomey hes focused on his own agenda, not us. Majority forward is responsible for the content of this advertising. Lets check in now with karen rogers. Theres some closures around town, some other issues. What does it look like. Weve had challenges navigating around issues with the dnc on the road. Looking live, i95 at the exit for the platt bridge and the schuylkill. You can see police here, the cones are set up restricting traffic because we cant have anybody over 5 tons, a vehicle over 5 tons travel on i95 and this is causing delays. Starting to see ten minutes delays with some of your regional rails, west trenton Paoli Thorndale and doylestown. Ground clutter up around trenton philadelphia. Dont worry about that. Just some light sprinkles and showers popping through south jersey and delaware. The a. C. Expressway getting a little bit damp. As we roll through the morning looks like its going to be dry in philadelphia, 77 degrees with just moderate humidity. The farther south you go into south jersey and delaware the more and more humid it feels. 81 degrees by 10 oclock. By noon, 88. And were going to continue the heat wave today but just barely. Our high is 91 degrees. This afternoon another popup shower or thunderstorm possible tam mainly down south in parts of south jersey and delaware. Good to know david thank you.
