Atlantic city. Ac starting to get a little bit damp. Dover just beginning to pick this up as well and this is gradually moving forecast. A wider view shows you were cloudy ahead of this rain and well all see a little bit of this probably before the end of the morning rush hour. Also a dense fog advisory technically not in place in philadelphia and Delaware County and New Castle County, delaware but much of the rest of the area is looking atavus visibilities down below a quarter mile here and there and the current visibilities have it low in trenton and these numbers have been waffling in and out in some of those northern suburbs. It is high. 52 degrees in allentown, 55 in sea isle city. And today is going to represent a slow climb in temperatures. By 8 oclock, 55. 61 by noon. 63 by 3 oclock and by six, 65. I expect a high of 66 but we politmight not get there until later this evening. Periods of rain. Tomorrow we smash the old record for december. Ill have details coming up. All righty. Sounds good day. Lets turn off that spigot. The wet can conditions are giving us problems including an accident in Atlantic County on the a. C. Expressway. Happened in the westbound direction approaching route 54. That of course is the exit for hammonton but they have the left lane blocked not only westbound but also eastbound with the emergency crews on the scene. So you can expect some slowing in either direction on the Atlantic City expressway in the hammonton area this morning because of that overturned tractortrailer. Once you get a little bit farther along, this is the scene along 42 northbound side passing creek road headed up towards 295. All the overnight construction is gone and the traffic headed toward the walt whitman bridge is doing so at a pretty good clip at the moment. But we have an issue here as you head into conshohocken. You see a few cars getting by on this ramp but the ramp is partially blocked. Its the ramp from the blue route 476 northbound to route 23 and matsonford road as you head in towards conshohocken. Serious accident on the ramp. Traffic just barely squeezing by. Its trying to get to the schuylkill over there. That ramp is opened and available to you. This is the vine street expressway just off the schuylkill. All the overnight construction cleared out. Traffic still moving okay and those construction crews dont return until after the holiday on sunday night so were going to enjoy a few nights without that work. Matt. Thanks, matt. Philadelphia International Airport has been a crowded place today. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is live at the security gate. Whats going on there now . Hi annie. Reporter hey, matt. This is going to be one of the busiest weeks of the year travel but today is expected to be the busiest. I want to give you a look right now. An hour ago this was empty. Now it is full in terminal c people headed to the security lines after they go through downstairs and get their tickets and give some of their luggage there to put on the conveyor belt. My friends at the t. S. A. Are telling me he terminal b is also packed as well. A number of people before they head out should definitely can check to see what the conditions are. You heard that theres fog in some areas so do you want to check before you led out here. Something else though a spokesperson from the airport reminded me to tell people is now that American Airlines has such a big presence here at the airport if you are flying american you definitely want to check and see he which terminal you are flying out of. Thats because now they fly out of a through f so if you arrive at one terminal you could be walking a long ways to get to the other one. That could definitely give you a lak headache. Most of the travel flurries a pretty good mood a a lot of them telling Us Organization is the key im getting here early. Heres what one woman will to say. I havent between sleep at all to get here on time. We know that the holidays are busy so we like to be early than getting late. Reporter you look very organized. Yes, we are. We like to be organized so we can go quicker. Reporter organization is the key. Well for those of you hitting the roads, they are going to be packed as well. 90 percent of people are going to be traveling on the roadways this year. Big part because gas prices are so reasonable. Now, the worst time to hit the roadways is today between the hours of three he cloc 3 oclocd 6 oclock. The best day to hit the roadways is actually on chris mayday. Thats when im driving. So, that is some tips we have and of course in any instance you are going to expect to see a large amount of people travel nothing matter how many numbers we throw out at you. Back here live at the airport of course you can see people filing through here through security getting everything ready, all the things that they need to do at the checkpoint. Theres a number of apps that you can pick on your ipad or on your iphone, different people have their taste ones bufavoriteones. The best one isnt an app its going to phl. Org. Thats what i have on my ipad. At this point were seeing only a couple of delays again some of those delays depend on whats happening at other airports in the can country. So, if youre picking somebody up here you want to check this before you head to the airport as well but at this point it looks like the majority of the flights are on time. Yeah and dont take it on an airplane. Thanks so much maribel. All right, david we got fog out there and then rain is moving in. We have both of those things as issues is what im trying to say. Storm tracker6 live double scan right now shows you there is some rain down to the south. If we go in a little bit closer you can see it is pushing up through Atlantic City. This is fairly light this first band up around fortescue and dover but theres steadier rain highlighted in yellow and 1346 thasome of that looks liket will clip the shore shortly. As we take a look outside, we have cloudy skies over the airport. Fog not too bad here in philadelphia but in some spots weve got it down below a quarter mile. Its patchy but as youre driving around this morning you want to be careful of that. 52 degrees in allentown, 57 in philadelphia. 56 in millville. 55 in trenton. 56 in wilmington. Not much wind out there. Future tracker6 handling the rain for you and between now and 9 oclock, it does look like rain has a chance of getting all the way up to philadelphia. Northern and western suburbs maybe not so much early on. Then as we go up to noon theres the chance of some spotty off and on precipitation here or there. Obviously today is not a washout. Between noon all the way up to 5 oclock, a chance of some more periods of rain coming in so that the evening commute in some spots could be on the wet side. And then later tonight there is more rain on the way. We do expect that after about midnight well start to see this knocking down and by morning we are likely down just a couple of sprinkles and showers. Cloudy skies, periods of rain up in the Lehigh Valley today. A high of 61. Keep in mind when we talk about highs today, theyre going to be very late in the afternoon or maybe not even until after dinner hour into the evening hours as the temperatures are just going to slowly rise with the approach of a warm front. Cloudy skies, periods of rain down at the shore, 61 degrees the li high there. In philadelphia going for a record tying high. Seems like ive been talking about new records an awful lot the past few weeks but a record tying high of 66 degrees with cloudy skies and periods of rain and there are how those numbers are going to climb. By 11 oclock 58, by 2 oclock 62 and by 565. There may not be until later in the evening hours. On Christmas Eve we are looking at a cold front out to the west of us. Clouds and sun through the day but a surge of warm air ahead that of front is going the raise our temperatures into the 70s. 25 to 35 degrees above average, just amazing warmth tomorrow and we may actually hit not only a record high for tomorrows date but maybe a december record in philadelphia with lies i with le mid 70s. Tomorrow more sprinkles and showers are possible. Later in the evening probably not as much going on but we cant rule out a late day or evening popup shower or rumble of thunder. Your sevenday from accuweather 66 degrees is your high today. Mild. Periods of rain but not a total washout. Tomorrow sun giving way to more clouds, 76 degrees is our current forecast high. That would shatter the oldies record of 73 and again there could be evening little drizzle or shower developing. Then Christmas Day a stray shower. Otherwise sun mixing with clouds and another record breaker of 70 degrees. So very warm air through the holiday period. As we head into the weekend saturday back down to 58 and then up to 68 on sunday. Some rain around both days here and there. And then a little bit cooler next week but still well above average so the mild trend continues straight through the new year. This is the ramp from the blue route northbound to the schuylkill eastbound. If youre trying to get to 76 you can do that without a problem. Its getting into conshohocken where you have to stay to the right, stay on the shoulder of the ramp to get by the accident. So well keep watching that. Were also watching a new crash in upper moreland its along davisville road at terwood road and of course expect extra traffic along 611 through willow grove because of people headed to the Willow Grove Park mall for that last minutes shopping. On the big picture so far so good on the roosevelt boulevard and the schuylkill expressway. On 95 we had a vehicle that broke down on the girard point bridge so thats southbound headed toward the airport but that dv is out of there now. Everything is opened and looking good on the girard point or the platt if youre headed to philadelphia International Airport early this morning. Happened on the westbound side route 54 the exit for hammonton. They have the left lane blocked eastbound. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is lie on the scene of that deadly accident on the a. C. Expressway in hammonton. Katherine. Reporter matt, its so early on in this investigation so were still waiting to hear more details but we are hearing that this was a fatal accident and that there were two vehicles involved here including a tractortrailer and you can see he that tractortrailer in there grassy area here along the Atlantic City expressway overturned and were being told that equipment is going to come in here because they have to upright that tractortrailer. What exactly led up to this crash remains under investigation. This happened around 5 00 a. M. In the westbound lanes near route 54 here in hammonton. Theyre bringing in a lot of equipment so expect a lot of work to be going on in this area. You can see traffic is getting by in both directions. Were not seeing any backups yet but that could change as it gets later and there are more cars on the road. The accident caused a fuel spill and so crews will have to clear that away as well before they leave. A lot of work going on in the area, lane closures as well. Avoid the area if you can. You can see theyre bringing in a big tow right now. If you do have to go through here, use a lot of caution because there are a lot of people working in this area. Live in hammonton, cathy Katherine Scott channel6 action news. Thank you for this morning. Theyre expecting a number, large number of people today. Today is one of the busiest travel days of the year especially this week. Now, with me i have jana tidwell from aaa who knows everything about travel especially on these weeks. So, what numbers are we expecting in the air, on the roadways, everywhere . Sure. Aaa is expecting Record Number of holiday travelers this season with over 100 million americans traveling for the year end holidays. Locally that translates to over 1. 1 million philadelphia area residents will travel for the year end holidays. Reporter and as far as roadways go, were expecting to have 90 percent more people on the roadways this year, right . 90 percent of those traveling will go by car. And reason being its convenient. You can stop and start as you want. Its also more Cost Effective for families traveling with multiple people as compared to traveling by air. Well see about 67 percent of the population travel by air. Reporter and reason why more people on the roadways, gas prices and also the timing when the holiday falls. Absolutely. Gas prices are definitely fueling travel. We are at 2. 22 a gallon in the Philadelphia County area today. Thats the lowest price for the region for the year. Low gas prices all year have definitely put some extra disposable income in peoples pockets to be able to travel for the holidays and then were looking at Christmas Day and new years day both falling on fridays so weve got back to back threeday weekends. Reporter great. We just want to give you a look again at this line there we have lined us. One thing that the airport does want us to let people know if youre flying american it has a much larger presence here now at the airport. There are many more terminals. Check to see which terminal your flight is going out of before you head here so youre not at one end of the airport and then have to fly literally run to the other end of it and also leave plenty of extra time. There are fresh signs of a budget break through in harrisburg may be happening a final house vote could come as early as today. Moderate republicans most from our area broke party lines to clear a key hurdle to getting a plan passed. Democratic Governor Tom Wolf says hes pleased but knows there is still a ways to go he to end the six month stalemate. There are elements of the package that are still in limbo including a 1 billiondollar tax increase and pension reform. If they dont pass it today, which is very its not like, it will be the latest budget in recent state history. Wow. All right. Well, storm tracker6 live double scan shows that you we are once again a little bit on the damp side. Areas down to the south of philadelphia are getting it right now and this is slowly pushing up toward wilmington and philadelphia. Obviously the majority of the rain currently, though, is down around millville, down toward cape may, Atlantic City picking up some of this and most of delaware from about smyrna all the way down to llewes and rehoboth beachs are seeing some of this rain. If we move this up to the north wilmington and philadelphia still dry but over the next hour, hour and a half we do expect that rain to start to make it up into philadelphia and even ahead of it you might see a little bit of drizzle as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies across the immediate region. There are some areas experience something fog. Philadelphia not seeing too much of that. But its thicker as you get out into the suburbs so be careful driving in this morning. Your temperature is 57 degrees in philadelphia. The winds are out of the east at just 7 Miles Per Hour. Not all that strong. Satellite showing you how its cloudy. There comes the rain and lined that leading edge of rain there is more off and on precipitation extending down the coast. Thats what we expect today, off and on rain periods it back and forth. By 9 oclock we probable are a little bit damp over parts of the region. Then we get up to 12 oclock, lunchtime theres the possibility of a little bit more of this stuff coming in. As we get later into the afternoon another round of it possible so not raining all day today but at times youll have periods of this coming through and it could be a couple of hours here, a couple of hours there that youre kind of wet. The evening commute by 5, 6 oclock looks like it could be a bit on the damp side in some areas. Then we get more of this off and on precipitation all the way through 11 oclock. Sometime after midnight tonight we expect it to begin to die down for the most part. We are looking at a mild one today, 55 degrees by 8 oclock and up to 58 by 11 oclock. By 2 oclock, 62. And this is one of those odd days where while normally ill tell you well the high will hit around 3 oclock or so. Today were not sure well get that 66 until after dinnertime tonight. By 5 oclock well still only be at excitement with a warm front that 66 might hold off until later in the evening hours. Your high temperatures across the region are probably on the late side of the day maybe even in the evening. 64 millville, 63 is your high in trenton. 65 in wilmington and 61 in allentown. Obviously all these numbers well above average. And if you are traveling look out for possible delays as we have especially in the midatlantic a lot of rain around, some fog early. Rainfall through the day, near about an inch and there could be some delays coming at various times across the midatlantic region out to the center states. Now this is Christmas Eve a cold front coming in from the west and the big story tomorrow is going to be a surge of mild air coming up from the south and thats going to get us up into the 70s and in philadelphia probably an all time december high, not just for tomorrows date but for the whole month. 66 degrees is todays high.
