Showing the clouds moved in quickly. We expected to start off with a bit more sunshine but the clouds are advancing quickly. Clear skies in delaware and south jersey. Well be in and out of the clouds early on in philadelphia. We see those showers out to the south and west. It is is mostly dry day today but we have a chance for spotty showers and looks like the showers near washington may clip our southern most region this morning. 43 degrees in quakertown, 45 in coatesville, 43 in warminster. Its 46 in center city. Kind of cool out there. You need to grab that jacket. 42 in browns mills. Its just 45 in glassboro. 50 degrees in dover, delaware. Weve had so many days where we are above average overall in april were running more than 6 degrees above average. Today is the not one of those days. Were below average with a high of 61 degrees in the afternoon. Some peeks of sunshine early but you see how the clouds lower and thicken through the day t by 7 00 a. M. Overnight construction along 95 northbound at cottman avenue has cleared out so everything is reopened. If youre coming southbound no delays to contend with yet as you head down towards center city. Also in the clear so far on the roosevelt boulevard, schuylkill expressway on blue route. We are getting set for more changes along the Benjamin Franklin parkway with the inner drives closing later on today. Katherine scott is going to have more on that coming up in just a few minutes but for now were watching construction in tuckahoe, route 50 blocked in both directions south of 49. This is in addition to the work going on on the river bridge so until 6 00 this morning for the next half hour, i would stay over on woodbine road to get around that extra construction. Have a downed pole and wires in Hamilton Township atlantic county. 40 harding highway is blocked. 322 or old landis avenue would be alternates. And in Mercer County theres a new crash. Its on the new jersey turnpike northbound by exit 7a, right lane and ramp are blocked there. We also have the fire location in pennsauken, camden county, along zimmerman avenue. As a result, njts river line is not running at this hour. Matt i know you have more details on whats going on there in pennsauken. Indeed we do. It is our breaking news right now. At least one firefighter was injured battling that large house fire in camden county. It happened when the massive flames caused a collapse. Action News Reporter Jeanette Reyes is live at the scene along zimmerman avenue in pennsauken. Jeanette. Reporter well, matt, we could see those flames shooting up into the skies from the betsy ross bridge. Things are much better now but the home is completely collapsed which means that the residents really theres no hope of recovering anything. Take a live look here behind me. You can barely see the lights or the smoke now which is good news really. The firefighters have this under control. Theyre just working on some of those hot spots. This blaze broke out around 2 30 this morning along the 7400 block of zimmerman avenue. Firefighters arrived on scene to find that fire engulfing the first floor. It quickly spread to the second and third floors. Embers were flying into onto rather neighboring homes and other wooded areas, so that complicated things quite a bit. All of the residents fortunately were able to evacuate safely. One of the occupants has his dogs to thank for that. They woke him up when they saw those flames and he also evacuated. One firefighter was briefly trapped on an upper floor. He was able to get out and one resident we spoke to said she grew up in this home since she was a baby. Shes lived here and she was quite emotional when she got on scene and found really that everything was lost. She was staying at her Fathers House in philadelphia reporter how are you doing. Doing. Horrible. I lived here since i was two. I cant believe it man. My husband said it was Something Big and then i just opened the door and all these fires. When i came out it was shooting up into the air. It was really bad. Reporter and things grew complicated and more difficult for awhile as time went on and then eventually the firefighters got this under control. The red cross is here on scene assisting some of the displaced residents. We dont have a number quite yet but we do know no one was injured. A firefighter did suffer a broken ankle, though. As matt pelman has been telling you this morning, even more lane restrictions are being implemented on the ben franklin parkway as the city gets ready for the nfl draft, still more than a week away. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is live along the parkway. An exciting event for the city but a real headache for drivers, katherine. Reporter it could be, nydia and at this point we already had that first phase of closures. The second phase is supposed to start around midnight. Those inner lanes of the ben franklin parkway have not closed yet but its something you want to look out for because that phase is supposed to start at 12 zero 1 00 a. M. The inner lanes were exposed to close from that 20th to eakins oval for the next phase of the road closures ahead of the nfl draft next week. We have seen cars getting through so far this morning but we dont know how long this is going to last. It runs through saturday the 29th on the parkway eakins oval and the steps of the art museum. The nfl released into you artist renderings to get a better of what it will look like once the work is done. Dozens of stage hands have built a massive stage working at least 11 hours a day for the last two weeks. Theyre on the finishing touches right now with skilled technicians completing various tasks. Its pretty awesome. Its like you would feel like a part of history. A lot of eagles fans are up there, were all philadelphia boys and south jersey boys so, you know, its hometown for us. Reporter and back here live along the parkway where the inner lines were supposed to close at 12 01, they are opened right now but again, they could close at any point this morning. Then on monday, all lanes of the parkway will close between the museum and the 20th. Then some side streets will get shut down as well so again, the draft starts next thursday. You want to keep an idea, just kind of keep wide berth of this area because of all the closures that are going to be happening now through monday. The man a was shot in the back and shoulder while walking up to his home. Stray bullets also hit two parked cars. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras which police are now reviewing in hopes of tracking down the gunman. The victim survived and is at einstein hospital in station condition. A mom Critical Condition after being hit by a Police Cruiser in kensington. Video taken by witnesses show two Police Officers carrying the woman into their patrol car before rushing her to the hospital. According to police, the crash happened during an investigation at a small park at kensington and f streets. Witnesses say the officers were chasing a man running through the park when they backed up into the woman. But officials deny the officers were pursuing anyone. Also police have not released the womans released the womans name but say she appears to be in her 30s. New this morning a Death Investigation is under way after a homeowner found a body floating in his backyard pond. The victim has been identified only as a 41yearold man and they believe he was from out of town. Closing arguments today in the trial of eric frein. The prosecution rested yesterday in pike county and the defense declined to call any witnesses. Steve stephens took his own life yesterday in erie pennsylvania. Police got a tip call from a mcdonalds employee who recognized stephens when he pulled up to the drive through. After he placed his order employees tried to stall him when but he drove off when police arrived. There was a 2mile chase that ended when Police Performed a pit maneuver stop. Police say stephens then pulled a gun and killed himself. Philadelphia police paying tribute to the victim Robert Godwin sr. Officer Johnny Castro created this digital painting of him and the Police Department posted it online offering its condolences. They were urged to call the police with tips just like the mcdonalds employees did to help bring closure to families. Three white men shot and killed at random in Central California and police are investigating the shooting rampage as a hate crime. Police in fresno say 39yearold corey alley muhammad opened fire.
