Today gradually drawing that drier air in all the way down to philadelphia and beyond and we do expect that humidity to drop as we go through the morning and into the afternoon. Taking a look at where temperatures are going its still going to be a hot one. 80 degrees by 8 oclock, 85 by 10 oclock, noon 90. Your shy 95 but unlike yesterday were not going to have to warn you about sire high heat index values because the humidity is going to be a lot better. Karen it looks like another improved day tomorrow and then the humidity creeps back in on thursday. More storms are possible. Details coming up in the seven day. All right, day. I had friends in delaware telling me it took two hours to get to work yesterday and you know why . Exhibit a. This is the Police Checkpoint right here in southwest philadelphia. I95 by the platt bridge, the exit for the platt bridge and the schuylkill so what can you see from this shot . Weve got police blocking the left lane on i95 but theyre also blocking the lane making it just one lane trying to get to the platt bridge and the schuylkill so this caused huge delays. It already looks a little busy for this hour doesnt it . Huge delays at this point coming out of Delaware County all morning long. We expect that again today. So you just want to watch for it. Right now youre moving okay but the checkpoints are set up because theyre sixty nining for any heavy vehicles. I guess its a difficult thing to do to scan any vehicle that look like theyre 5 tons. You cant travel on i95 through philadelphia between the platt bridge and 676. You also have checkpoints coming this way on i95. We saw huge delays coming out of the northeast because of that and youve got a checkpoint on the vine street expressway so now were looking at the vine which is clear actually traffic stopped for the minute but clear, no overnight construction with the dnc going on but a checkpoint ahead. Thats going to cause problems. In addition to the checkpoints the vine was blocked for awhile yesterday because of the motorcades going through. There are really a lot of impacts from the dnc that were seeing but if you head out early youll be okay. In addition to all the dnc traffic weve got issues with downed wires with those storms. Downed wires and trees in some spots because of yesterday so bristol street at radcliff street in bristol township. Police are directing task. Stick to pine grove street and pond street. Back to you tam at the dnc. Thank you karen. Now, day one of conventions usually pretty boring but here in philadelphia that was not the case. Yes, the day brought some protests and division but by the end of the night it was a different story as one power House Speaker after another was very clear im with her. If it cant be me, it better be her, that was the gist we heard from senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders has a massive and passioned following many of whom as you saw spent the day in protest both in the streets and in this hall at the start of the night. And who say theyre pledged to only him when the roll call starts later this afternoon. A packed Wells Fargo Center erupted in three full minutes of thunderous applause as sanders took the stage last night but he eventually told them that continued rivalry and refusal to back Hillary Clinton is fool hearty if it could mean a presidency for donald trump. He told believers 33 need to go in a new way to the same goal to create a government of the people. A government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice, that struggle continues. [cheers and applause] now, perhaps the most compelling case for Hillary Clinton was made by the First Lady Michelle Obama on the Convention Floor among the delegation. All you saw was a sea of purple michelle banners and often emotional tones mrs. Obama told the crowd that her family motto is when they go low, we go lie a standard she says that Hillary Clinton would uphold and she clearly took a swipe at donald trump when she talked about whats at stake. Because when when you have the Nuclear Codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you cant make snap decisions, you cant have a thin skin or tendency to lash out. You need to be steady. Mrs. Obama had her own personal clearing section. Former president bill clinton Vice President joe bidens wife, jill, and new jersey senator cory booker who had spoken earlier in the evening all sat together and gave her the thumbs up as did the president who tweeted out how proud he was of his wife. And new jersey senator speak speaking of new jersey senator cory booker he electrified the crowd with his speech and in a star turn that many are comparing to Barack Obamas 2004 convention keynote. That put obama on the road to the presidency in 2008. Booker spoke about americas triad activities individuality joined with common cause and argued that Hillary Clinton is the only candidate that truly embraces that belief. Hillary clinton knows what donald trump portrays time and time again in this campaign that we are not a zero sum nation, it is not you or me. It is not one america against another american, it is you and i together interdependent interconnected with one single interwoven destiny. Senator booker also says that Hillary Clinton will be a champion for the poor across the country. Now, weve been in the middle of true summer a mix of sweltering temperatures and raging storms but those who came out here to protest this week, the they have not been swayed. Jeanette reyes is live outside of fdr park. Jeanette the groups are resting up before they get going on day two. Reporter yeah, and when you say resting up tam its definitely not at a hotel. Many are actually right out here with me behind me at ftr park. Take a live look behind me. You can see a lot of tents up in the distance. This is where some of the protests will be held. A lot of these protestors coming from d. C. , ohio, michigan as far as washington state. The weather will be much more forgiving today than it was yesterday. Heavy rain showers hampered early events then temperatures climbed peeking at a record breaking 109 degrees. That was the index temperature. It was pretty miserable for the hundreds of protestors from out of town who decided to camp out. The city and protest organizers worked interestly independently of each other providing misting tents and assembling medical teams to assist in any heat related emergencies and there have been some. The weather may be to blame for a lower turnout for Bernie Sanders rallies. Demonstrators walked across the ben franklin bridge in hopes of shutting it down but there simply werent enough people. Take a listen. The bigger issue is working from the ground up to support people running for local government and infiltrating our system and taking our Government Back from the inside by working and getting people to vote and understand the whole political process. We really want Bernie Sanders to be the nominee. He is the only one that can beat trump and he really has the power of the youth behind him and if the Democratic Party really wants to stay around, they would be wise to nominate sanders. Reporter so far these protests have been fairly peaceful even Police Commissioner richard ross said the same thing. Today well start to see the more controversial protests. You have one against Police Brutality another for gun control and Trump Supporters will be out in full force today also demonstrating. Reporting live at fdr park, jeanette ray yells, channel6 actiojeanette reyes channel6 action news. Tam. A lifetime of fighting for children and families. Today we will hear from the mothers of Trayvon Martin eric garner Michael Brown and sandra bland talking about criminal justice reform. Well hear from Police Officers later in the week and the big ticket tonight is former president bill clinton coming to the stage to talk about his wife like she did for him back in 1996. It will be interesting to hear that speech. Matt and nydia. Thank you, tam. Donald trump will address thousands of veterans at the v. F. W. Convention in Charlotte North Carolina today. The republican nominee rallied supporters in Winston Salem last night. Trump took aim at the rigged system specifically naming Outgoing Democratic Committee chair Debbie Wasserman schultz and later responded to the dnc speakers on twitter. Trump is scheduled to stump in scranton tomorrow. Philadelphia lawmakers extended last call at bars for the dnc and delegates are already taking advantage of it. Parties and performance lasted into the Early Morning hours. Thats right. Katherine scott joins us live. Youre at Le Meridian Hotel in center city. Reporter thats right. Theres always plenty going on in philly but perhaps even more so for the Democratic National convention. Were at the le meridian right now in center city and they app flied have their bar stay opened until 4 00 a. M. So the delegates would have a place to go after the events wrapped up. Whether it was here or elsewhere, there is plenty going on around the city. Some were informal gatherings, others were events. At Union Transfer on Spring Garden and at the electric factory uggy you can see party goers outside. At Union Transfer it was an invitation only fundraiser for musics on call sponsored by the Recording Industry association of america. Philly native Dj Jazzy Jeff opened up the festivities. Everybody lovers him. Then nelly came on and brought the house down. Over at the electric factory they had the head count convention jam. Head count is a nonprofit that registers voters at concerts. Grace potter, dawes and philadelphias own mutlu formed there. Justhis is all about musician whose care about seeing their fans vote and care about just people getting involved and putting on a great show. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows you were dry. Stepping outside we have sky6 and were looking at sunshine with some of those high clouds in place but it does look like its going to be a pretty bright start across the region probably staying fairly bright today. 75 degrees currently in philadelphia. For that now your dewpoint is still up over that 70degree thresholds for oppressively humid air but we do expect that number to dip as we go through the morning and especially the afternoon and this is part of the reason. Winds have turned out of the westnorthwest thats a dry air source region for that and that will knock that dewpoint down. 8 miles an hour winds in the city. Yesterday 97, beat the old record. Reading not a new one just missed in trenton anti of the record high in wilmington yesterday so as expected records were challenged and some did fall yesterday. There you see those storms from last night, theyre gone. The watch box is off the table as well and we have a lot of sunshine early on as you just saw on sky6 with perhaps some high clouds as the day goes on. Going to be another hot one. 80 by 8 oclock, 85 by 10 oclock. Not a bad morning to get out there and get your workout done although youll want to hydrate if youre in philadelphia or south with that hot humid air. By 3 oclock, 95 degrees. School drinks still important today, ac breaks all those usual precautions but the humidity will be dropping so that it will no longer be oppressively humid around the region, just a tad humid this afternoon. High temperatures 95 in philadelphia, 95 in wilmington. Up in the 90s in trenton, altoallentown and reading as we. 84 in cape may. Closer look at the beach shows you mid 80s pretty much everywhere from surf city down to ac and oc u. V. Index running high. Cape may 84. Well get into the upper 80s the farther south you move through the delaware beach. Taking a look at those dewpoints in the 70s early today but by noon starting to see that dry air push us back into the 60s and later in the afternoon and evening we start the see the low 60s so an indication with those dewpoints of the humidity levels dropping and more comfortable air coming in. 95 is todays high. Make sure you hydrate. Humidity less. Sunny and hot tomorrow 93. Thursday 93 and another day where we have a cold front where the humidity starts to rise again and we could see afternoon and evening thunderstorms on thursday. Some of those storms could linger into friday. Otherwise, were drying in the afternoon and the heat waves over with a high of 88. Thats what its looking like now and for the weekend mid to upper 80s with a spotty thunderstorm around. Hopefully dry for the union game sunday night. The heat wave about to end. We have three more hot ones and more comfortable today. Good. Thank you david. It is now 5 44. Still ahead on action news, more live coverage from that south philadelphia, site of the dnc. Glad we both got the color memo karen. Thats right. Pink is the new black or something. Lets take a live look out here on i95. Looking live at the vine street expressway. This is your southbound traffic right here. Can you see police are out here, theyre blocking the left lane and the shoulder. You see the cones that they have set up. This is one of the checkpoints on i95 and the reason they have so many Police Officers here is theyre kind of spotting for any vehicles that look large that are over 5 tons and if they dont pull them over, they go and get them and pull them over because you cant cant on i95 southbound at this point if youre over 5 tons. This has caused huge problems relating to this on i95. Watch for that starting a little later this morning. Lets look at this downed treatment large road near sewell road. You want to expect this peppered through your morning commute. This one in lower moreland township. Stick to lower horse road. Twenty nine blocked near old river road.
