Shell break down what happened overnight and look ahead to whats happening today. Plus powerful storms moved through the region just as the dnc got under way. Accuweather is tracking more steamy weather. Another hot one. Not as bad as yesterdayly lets turn to david and karen. Still a day for cool drinks. Not going to be as oppressive or as humid through the afternoon. This morning weve got the clearing skies that you see he there with the lack of cloud cover, the storms from last night in those watch boxes are all gone at this point and were looking to start out bright with just high clouds filtering in as we go later into the morning and afternoon. 75 degrees currently in philadelphia, 68 up in allentown, not bad there. 69 degrees in reading. 72 in millville. And 76 down in cape may. As you take a look at dewpoints were still looking at fairly humid air from philadelphia down to the shore but notice how were back into the mid 60s in allentown and reading and thats because the wind today while not real strong is going to be out of the northwest. That is a source of dry air for us rather than that southerly flow that we had scooping the humidity in and these numbers should continue to fall just as they already have up in allentown and reading later in the morning and afternoon. So, if you have a workout this morning and youre around philadelphia and south youll need to hydrate ahead of time because its real rather humid. 77 degrees isnt too bad though with the sun coming up and then 85 degrees by 10 oclock, 90 by noon. Its still going to be hot this afternoon. Were going for that high of 95 degrees around 3 oclock but with humidity levels tapering off it should be a lot more comfortable than yesterday certainly. Karen, we do have a spike and return of higher humidity later in the week around thursday and maybe some more storms. Details on that coming up. Well take every little break if we can get it. Looking outside live were in southwest philadelphia and can you see this . This is a Police Checkpoint one of them right here. This is i95 near the platt bridge. Theyre scanning the vehicles because any vehicle over 5 tons, that could be a dump truck even a tow truck if its over 5 tons cant continue on i95. Those vehicles more than 5 tons cant drive on i95 through philadelphia during the dnc and this checkpoint blocking the left lane and the shoulder created huge this on i95 yesterday here through Delaware County innocent northeast coming down from i95 because of the check point before you enter the vine. So you cant travel if youre more than 5 tons on i95 at this point and thats through philadelphia between the vine and the platt bridge. You have to travel on the schuylkill and the vine and thats creating extra heavy delays there as well. Youve been delayed on 95, delayed on the schuylkill because of all of this. Not just yet though. Its early. You have to get out now, thats a good time to do it. This is the vine street expressway near eighth street. Also a Police Checkpoint ahead. No delays just yet. Its kind of quiet out there. The vine was blocked at times yesterday because of motorcades. For now so far so good. Well expect these delays coming up. Thank you karen. Back here live at the Wells Fargo Center and they call her the closer, the one who can make the case and bring down the house and last night thats exactly what Michelle Obama did forcefully telling the nation that Hillary Clinton is their best choice. The room was a sea of purple as people waved signs saying michelle. Mrs. Obama talked about Hillary Clintons passion and sense of public duty not to mention her tenacity. She called clinton the only person truly qualified to be president. Because when when you have the Nuclear Codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you cant make snap decisions. You cant have a thin skin or a tendency to lash out. You need to be steady. Reporter mrs. Obama had her own personal cheering section. Former president bill clinton Vice President joe bidens wife, jill, who is a close personal friend and new jersey senator cory booker all sat together for her speech. The president tweeting out later just how proud he was of his wife. And Bernie Sanders struck a more somber tone focusing on what he sees as whats wrong with the nation and the reasons that he believes Hillary Clinton is the best candidate now to fix it. A government based on the principles of economic racial social and environment justice, that struggle continues. Sanders also said the election is about the future and what that means for our children and grandchildren. His supporters certainly showed their love for him. They cheered for nearly three minutes straight before he started speaking. Now the day is the roll call vote when Hillary Clinton should officially become her partys nominee. At that moment well see just how much the sanders delegates took his speech to heart focusing on Hillary Clinton and uniting behind her or not. If we see protests. Now, donald trump did not quietly sit out the night. As he is won to do he took to twitter after Bernie Sanders delivered his speech calling for the Democratic Party to unify around Hillary Clinton trump accused him of selling out tweeting sad to watch Bernie Sanders abandon his revolution. We will welcome all voters who want to fix our rigged system and bring back our jobs and trump also took aim at new jersey senator cory booker. Booker had a star turn with an electrifying speech that railed on trump painting him as a hateful bully telling the crowd let us declare in in america love always trumps hate. Trump quickly responded tweeting if cory booker is the future of the Democratic Party they have no future. I know more about corey than he he knows about himself. Not really clear what that last line meant. Despite all the calls for unity not everyone is standing with hill and even in the extreme heat it would not quell some of the die hard Bernie Sanders supporters. Action News ReporterJeanette Reyes is live for us now in fdr park in south philadelphia. Shes got more on that. Good morning, jeanette. Reporter good morning to you tam. Bernie sanders supporters still strong saying their standing by him holding out hope that maybe there will be a last minute twist to the story here but i want to give you a live look at whats going on around. Were in fdr park. There are barricades. In the distance its still a bit dark so you cant see it there are campers mostly Bernie Sanders who are countering down the hours to head back outta and protest. Now, the weather hopefully will be a little more forgiving. Yesterday heavy rain showers hampered early events then temperatures climbed peeking at a record breaking 109 degrees. That was the index temperatures and it was pretty miserable for the hundreds of protestors from out of town that decided to camp out. The city and protest organizers worked independently of each other providing misting tents at various locations and assembling medical teams to assist in any heat related injuries or emergencies. The weather may be to blame for a lower turnout for a Bernie Sanders rally. They usually have a pretty large crowd. Demonstrators walked across the ben franklin bridge in hopes of shutting it down but there simi just wasn simply jut enough people. Its hot. Were feeling the bern. Its very hot out here. Not as many people out here than yesterday with this group but very humid, very hot. Still were worried about everybody out here. Reporter and humid or not, protests will continue today. Some of the more controversial ones will start today. For example we have one against police brutality, another for gun control and Trump Supporters will also be out today holding a demonstration. Reporting live at fdr park, Jeanette Reyes, channel6 action news. Tam. Never boring. Thank you, jeanette. This convention has also meant more than a Little Hollywood glamour in town. Boy, we had some storms last night. One batch in the morning, another last night and a lot of high wind gusts with trees down pretty much everywhere up in bath in the Lehigh Valley trenton, mount holly, northeast philadelphia and towamencin township. You can see the watch boxs from those storms last night now off the board and a few high clouds streaking in as the day goes on. Up in the Lehigh Valley it will still be hot with a high of 92 but humidity already much lower than it was yesterday and staying lower under a lot of sun today and at the shore warm but not as hot as and uncomfortable as yesterday a high of 86 degree 86 degrees. Ocean temperature back into the 60s. Sunny for the most part with high clouds mixing in. Hot with a high of 95 but lower and lower humidity as the day goes on so that later this afternoon it might just feel a tad humidity but nothing as oppressive as yesterday. If you have plans to head out on the town tonight maybe heading to some of those post convention parties a great evening. 7 oclock 91. By 8 oclock, 89 and then you can see how we dip down to 80 by 11 oclock and down into the 70s for those late night overnight parties. And then all the way overnight into tomorrow morning were dipping to 75 degrees, partly cloudy overnight not as muggy and way more comfortable. Dewpoints just want to show you how theyre going to drop as we go through the day down into the up are 60s by noon, low to mid 60 by later this afternoon. Your as much day were going for a95 at a, less humid. Tomorrow sunny and hot not all that humid 93. Then on thumbs the humidity starts to tick back up. 93 is the high and a cold front approaching us will probable trigger some afternoon and evening thunderstorms again. Some of those could linger into friday morning. After that, guys, were into the 80s. It now looks like the heat wave ends on friday and we stay into the mid to upper 80s through the weekend. Thanks, david. Just about 5 14. Still ahead on action news more live coverage from the dnc. How mississippis state flag got taken down. The crews are blocking broad street at pattison avenue. Several cars and a septa bus got stalled in the flash floods beneath the overpass at station and railroad avenues. Passengers were rescued by fire and police. No injuries were reported. So karen the roads not even really damp anymore, right. No, we have yesterday was a night ride for a lot of people driving through those storm. Today is a looking better. This is the schuylkill at south street where were moving nicely but expect a lot of extra volume as people avoid i95 which has been causing big delays because of the Police Checkpoints and the Weight Restrictions and of course those heavy vehicles over 5 tons cant travel on i95 so guess what, theyve been traveling on the schuylkill so its been taking extra long to get to work on i95 and on the schuylkill. Lets take a look right now at this accident. It has just cleared so main street here at Fourth Avenue moving better in collegeville but in Bristol Township bucks county weve got a problem with downed wires. Peco he is en route to the scene. We have police on hand directing traffic around the scene of bristol street at radcliff street. Over at union transfer, it was an invitation only charity event. A fundraiser for musicians on call sponsored by the Recording Industry association of america. Dj jazzy jeff opened up the festivities and nelly was a headliner. Incidentally its getting hot in here seemed very appropriate this week and the crowd of course loved it. Always a pleasure to watch the entire audience singing every song along with them because they know every word because theyre such fans. It reminds you all over again of the power of music and how important it is and how valuable it is. Reporter of course the week is still young. There are plenty of parties on the horizon. Right now weve got no precipitation, either. Well be right back with more news. This is gma first you know, meeting the residents and i had a gentleman stop me and ask me if i made his dinner. He had lost his wife recently, but i didnt know that. He made a remark to me about not sure he wanted to be there anymore, but he said something to me that has stuck with me to this day. After having your dinner, i think i want to stick around a while and that really meant something to me. I never had an experience like that and it just let me know that what im doing is much more important than just food. Theyre breathable underwear from fruit of the loom. Weve been told to expect protests this week and that road closures were a key thing that we could expect and that was exactly what we got in one spot yesterday, the heat and the tension rising at 50 marchers sat down on broad street rainy fused to movely they demanded that the Mississippi State flag which includes the confederate banner be taken drown a light pole. That flag is one of the 50 state flags that fly from light poles along broad street. City officials later removed that flag but whether thats going to be a permanent change is unclear. Police commissioner richard ross has been very visible over these past few days keeping an eye on the street scenes. He says his real concern is making sure everyone stays safe under some oppressive heat conditions. Very hot out here. Not as many people as it was out here yesterday with this group but very humid, very hot. So were worried about everybody out here. No arrests were made yesterday but 55 people were cited for Disorderly Conduct after jumping barricades outside the Wells Fargo Center. Back to you matt and nydia. Tam, thank you. 5 27 now. I knew that i wasnt going to make a fortune. But i would have a secure pension plan when i retired. Each and every one of us made that contribution from every paycheck we ever earned.
