After this rain gets through, we are going to transition to a mix of clouds and sun and theres just a slight chance of an additional popup shower or thunderstorm later today. This darker shade of green that you see covering most of the region and all these numbers in the upper 60s and 70s, well, thats really an indication of oppressive humidity and once we get past this rain with these dewpoints so high and the sun coming out it is definitely going to feel muggy out there today. Has been you get your run in early if you can dodge the raindrops. Not a real good idea in south jersey where theres lightning around but 73 degrees by 7 oclock in philadelphia, mainly dry. 76 degrees by 10 oclock. We are drying out by 10 00 and then a mix of clouds and sun the rest of the way with a warm and humid high of 88 degrees that will probably slot in rather late in the day, say, 4, 5 oclock thats when well be sitting on that 88degree high. Fun is over david noun its time to get used to the new normal with septa which involves about a third of the Regional Rail fleet being out of commission for the foreseeable future. What that means is new schedules acrosstheboard and in most cases theyre on whats called an enhanced saturday schedule. Thats a saturday schedule with an extra Early Morning train and an extra train or two during the rush hours but basically were running on saturday schedules. Some of the lines only a saturday schedule so thats less Service Definitely a lot less service than a normal weekday schedule but the cynwyd line not running at all. Youre on the buses instead of the trains on the cynwyd line. You need to think outside the box. Are you able to use the norristown high speedline coming from norristown . Coming from the delco burbs maybe hop on the 101 our 102 trolleys. In the media area drive the car and hop on one of the subways broad and market frankford subways will have extra service. Or use an amtrak or njt train. You need to think outside the box. Maybe you can carpool but this morning the roads are wet. We have a crash on 95 southbound here by the vine. Traffic barely squeezing by and this is the scene with the rain coming down in Cape May County were going to seashore traffic as well for those stragglers coming back from the beach. Matt and erin. Nearly one third of the Regional Rail trains could be out of service for weeks. Flames not a short term fix for this so riders are encouraged to have a contingency plan in place for the days to come. Were in ardmore right now and its pretty quiet. There are a few passengers standing on the platform waiting for a train to come. The only train we saw did not stop, it came through, it wasnt full but it did not make a stop here in ardmore but expect the cars to be full today as we get later on into the morning commute and be prepared for the possibility that youre standing there on the platform and a packed train passes right by you especially as you get closer to the city. There are now 13,000 fewer seats than usual and with that in mind septa is encouraging riders to look at other options, other ways to get to work within their transportation network. You can drive to south philadelphia and use one of the 1600 parking spots at the Old Navy Hospital and walk to the broad street subway. Of course there are buses and trolleys. The market frankford line. Septa is urging customers to be patient. Going have to drive. Thats not fun. No, its not. Going have to take the bus. Which i hate because theres so much traffic. Weve actually already seen some here at the station in ardmore waiting for customers, an alternative when they dont what happened to wait for the train anymore. Reporter matt, this is one spot where you actually have a couple of different options. The fern rock spot is the beginning our the last line on the broad street line but it also has several Regional Rail stops, including lance downs doylestown and west trenton. There are four bus stops heres. A half hour ago we saw a train come through. A number much people came here earl to make sure they got on that train. This is video of friday when engineers spotted the malfunction on one car and officials made the decision to take the fleet of silver liner five cars off the street for repairs. The problem is a structural flaw where tress cracks developed in a critical portion in the wheel suspension. Now, theres no time line on how long that will take. You heard katherine say this could take weeks. These are the newest Regional Rail cars assembled in 2010 and 2013. We do expect crowded conditions and by running a saturday schedule, there will be opportunities that we may bypass people because of the crowded conditions. Losing 13,000 seats is quite substantial. Reporter now tthe Regional Rail line is the one that comes here over my shoulder. They did not pass by the first time, they stopped. Again, they have plenty of seats there so were waiting to see as the morning rush picks up what will happen there. But again, if you want to come through fern rock theres plenty of parking spots here and like i said there are alternative options like taking the broad street line or several different buses. The shooting happened at 7 00 last night near the intersection of third and kerlin street. Police say the 31yearold victim had been shot multiple times and left for dead in a crown victoria. The car was still running when Police Arrived on the scene. Police have no motive or suspect in the case. New on action news rescue crews will to pull a driver from the wreckage of a headon crash overnight. It happened just after one 00 on the unit block of west cheltenham avenue in the East Oak Lane section of philadelphia. Police say the twocar crash was the end result of a chase between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. The victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition. No word yet on if charges will be filed. It wasnt the picture perfect fourth of july they had hoped for but vacationers at the jersey shore still filled the boardwalks. The action cam was there as families filed past wearing slickers and carrying umbrellas. The rain didnt dampen the show in the sky in atlantic city. That may the last of the heaviest rain but south jersey and delaware really the focus of where we may see some street flooding actively right now. If i go out to that wide view, philadelphia beginning to get out from under the heavy stuff as are most of the northern and western suburbs. Just keep in mind that overnight we have had pockets of heavy rain around and it takes awhile for that to drain off of roads. Plus, it is very, very muggy out there. Its going to be a humid one today. And then by noon, were breaking out some sunshine and mixing that with the clouds. You can use its 101 or 102 trolleys coming from the delco suburbs like media or pull the car out of the garage and drive to a subway station like fern rock or at t by the sports complex. Those subway lines will have extra service. If youre in trenton forget the trenton Regional Rail or the west trenton line. Try and use informed jt to come in instead. Breaking overnight Italian Police say they have arrested a homeless man in connection with the death of an american student whose body was found in the tiber river. 13yearold beau solomon of the university of wisconsin went missing on friday on his first day studying abroad.
