Now to president Donald Trumps sweeping immigration order new backlash from around the world and from lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle. Today the president is continuing to defend his policy calling it a necessary plan to make america safe again. Now President Trump is insisting that his travel ban will keep potential terrorists out while critics say it will do just the opposite. Although all of the people detained at u. S. Airports over the weekend have been released the president s order did spark more protests today in some cities. Among other things at this time blocks people from seven predominantly muslim countries from coming to the u. S. For 90 days. President trump says his action is falsely being called a muslim ban. He tweeted today there is nothing nice about searching for terrorists before they can enter our country. The white house says mr. Trump is going to protect the homeland with every measure he can. Hes made sure that every way possible we get down the path of securing this country putting americas safety and Security First and foremost bar none. Ly. Lawmakers both republican and democrats say the immigration order cool actually embolden terrorists to do us harm. The order is also facing a growing number of legal challenges including a new federal lawsuit filed today bite council on americanislamic relations. The fallout from the order has been playing out in airports across the country and around the world. Many who thought they had been given a green light to travel here instead stopped detained some of them turned around. John rawlins live in villanova and john you spoke with a lawyer whose client was caught up in all of this. Reporter thats correct. A law professor here at villanova is also a specialist in immigration law. She has a client that was caught up in the turmoil of hathis weekend. The law professor says on saturday things were anything but standard operating procedure. I think everything has been thrown into chaos at this point. Reporter as protesters jammed the airport saturday, villanova law professor Caitlin Berry was trying to talk to her client one of several passengers detained because of where they had been born. Was told that my client had no right to have an attorney and i would not be permitted to speak with him. Reporter he was not permitted to speak with family. Reporter her client possessed a valid immigration visa but with the spoke of the pen it was no longer acceptable. He was one of four at phl facing immediate deportation. Being told by Homeland Security these people would be put back onto a plane and forced to leave the United States. Reporter as protesters chanted lawyers worked and a judge in new york issued a stay. The feds backed off but not before the four spent a night in jail they were left overnight and sunday morning returned to the airport. Reporter the controversial travel ban impacted this university of delaware student studying for a masters in genetics her husband are a ph. D. Candidate in engineering. His mother was coming from iran to seat couple os four month old. She was to arrive last weekend but never departed the middle east. She was so excited. She was so happy to that shes coming to visit us. And all the family was gathered in our house to help her collect stuff. Reporter she says that a professor at the university is hoping tom contact one of the senators in delaware to see if they can get assistance in this. Meantime the aclu is planning a excuse me a News Conference tomorrow morning at Philadelphia City hall to discuss the fallout of the white house travel ban and what to do next. Live in villanova, john rawlins channel6 action news. Brian. All right, john, thank you. Meanwhile pennsylvanias two senators are also sounding off about this ban each of them expressing degrees of disapproval. Heres what democrat bob casey told us. This policy doesnt work and in fact its not enhancing our national security. In fact it might be strengthening recruiting for isis. Meanwhile republican pat toomey released a statement datoday supporting the president s idea of a temporary ban but the senator took issue with how this order was impleted. He said unfortunately the inexecutive order was flawed. It was too broad and poorly explained. There are some differences to note between the actions taken by each president. Well break it down for you first just who does this affect. President trumps executive order bars citizens of seven predominantly muslim countries from that ending the u. S. That includes syria iran iraq libya sudan yemen and somalia whats in 2011 president barack obama imposed rules that increased security but only as it affected refugees coming here from iraq. Now, in regard to the seven countries that President Trump has laid out in his order, we should note that none has been involved in a single major terror attack on u. S. Soil that includes 9 11. In 2011, president obamas actions came in response to a specific incident involving two iraqis who were charged with terrorism offenses in kentucky. Those two refugees were living in bowling green. One leader admitted to attacking u. S. Soldiers in iraq. It is believed his bombs killed Philadelphia Police officer janeiro pelligrini and three other pennsylvania guardsmen. Back here at the big board one more point of contrast. President trumps order suspends all immigration for 90 days for citizens coming from those specific seven countries. In 2011 president obamas order which his aids say was not officially a ban lasted for six months. So, just a. M just a comparison. The president S Immigration ban has people donating millions of dollars to the American Civil Liberties union. The aclu received more than 24 million just over the weekend. Thats about six times more than it normally receives inline donations over the course of an entire year. The acl. Plans to use the new funds to hire additional staff. Our coverage of the travel ban continues on our web site 6abc. Com. Well bring you the updates from President Trumps administration along with and continued reaction from across our region. My daughter, shes a Police Officer. They call me. They said to me, dad, we are are going apply for a job in another country. With spoke with attorney ahmed solomon former president of the new jersey muslim association. Hes calling for unity among cultures. Theres a verse in the core than says god put you on this earth so that you can get to know each other. Reporter after a prayer its something they bulked up. We have safety and Security Systems that are set up in this building cameras, locks. Reporter but put a lot of blame on the current Political Climate on why shootings like in quebec have happened. Sooner or later Something Like that is that bound to happen with the sentiment thats going around in this country. Reporter we were told today its unlikely mosques would start turning people away. Muslims wont ever lock their doors. Theyre always going to be hospitable welcome people in have discussions. The communities or individuals who have phobia towards muslims they need to actually get out of their comfort zone because were getting out of our comfort zone as well. Reporter and to expand on that, the iman told me if in itone whoever you are ever sees someone at their mosques if you want to pop in expect to build a bridge to bailed relationship with them youre more than welcome to. We also had a crash in the southbound lanes of 295 by the black horse pike. The crash is there no longer. The bad news is were still looking at single digit speeds like six and 7 Miles Per Hour the whole way from past 38 on down to that earlier accident scene. I would still think about using alternates like the southbound new jersey turnpike, maybe even evesham road or kings highway and additionally theres another accident that were watching. Its right here in maple shade along 73 and southbound. The good news is it looks like theyre clearing it out here in the southbound lanes of fox meadow drive but because those two left lanes are blocked, this, too, is a park pentagon lot coming south of route 90 where the betsy ross bridge comes in and youre coming away from the tacony palmyra bridge head towards 295 standstill on 73 southbound. We still are without the connector bridge well over a week now in case you thought something good happened over the weekend there, it didnt. Its a piece of Energy Moving through and this is creating the popup snow squalls. Its almost like in the sip time when you get those popup air mass thunderstorms but theyre pretty intense as they move through and they can reduce and visibility and quickly coat the ground. The most intense band right now is moving into burlington county. Its crossing route 70, browns mills, wrightstown, its moved through mount holly, route 38 and as we zoom in some of the areas that you see in the bright pink thats the heavier bands and thats what really reduces visibility almost like whiteout conditions. This one heading through fort dix road, another one over pemberton road. This is the most intense band moving east at 25 Miles Per Hour. We have a few more developing, though, in Chester County and berks county that would be rolling through t so, very quickly, it can drop a quick amount of snow in a short period of time.
