A Chester County road is back opened this afternoon following a serious crash. Two vehicles crashed on route 41 near Friendship Church road in cochranville. You can see one of the cars suffered extensive damage in the crash. It happened around 11 30. Were still working to get more details about the injuries but again, after several hours of being closed, that roadway is now back opened. A woman hit by a car in evesham township Burlington County has passed away. Police say she was getting off a transit bus when she was struck around 6 30 this morning. It happened in the westbound lanes of route 70 between route 73 and cropwell road. The driver of the car that hit her did stay on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Rescue efforts are under way in North Carolina where an estimated 1500 people are stranded by flooding from the remnants of hurricane matthew. Boats and helicopters have been deployed to lumberton about 7 miles inthroned save people from homes that are now surrounded by water. Officials believe a levy breached because of the heavy rains and they fear the danger could linger for days. The greatest threat at this point in time remains inland flooding that will continue throughout this week in both central and eastern North Carolina. People who live near rivers, streams and heavy levies need to be extremely careful. People remain missing and 21 deaths are blamed on matthew. According to estimates the storm caused between four and 6 billion worth of damage from the carolinas to florida. Commuter trains are once again going to and from Hoboken Terminal less than two weeks after that deadly new Jersey Transit crash. Eight of the 17 tracks reopened this morning just in time for the morning rush. Crews are still working though on extensive repairs to the rest of that area. One person died and more than 100 were hurt when a train smashed into the terminal bringing down part of the roof. Ntsb investigators say the train was going 20 miles an hour which is twice the speed limit just before impact. In the late 1700s the first italian immigrants started arriving by the boat loads not just to new york city but right here on the delaware in philadelphia. When i met up with the president of the national Italian Museum of america we were a few blocks weigh from larbellos home. Heres what the corner looked like in 1906. You might call de pilla the keeper of Italian American history. We had people landing on Delaware Avenue and never left. The only reminder that of immigration station this marker from the city but the impact of those immigrants can still be felt on every corner in south philadelphia because theyre still here. The only problem. We really have nothing to celebrate our culture here in the city. De pilla is the author of south south philadelphiard little italy and the bran child lined our citys first Italian Museum. We imagine this to be like italy place. There will be art. Right now the museum has two potential homes pier nine on Christopher Columbus boulevard. Right at the foot of the ben franklin bridge. And this site a little farther down, a quarantine station used in the 1800s under the Jefferson Administration for all immigrants coming into philadelphia. Its a really interesting historic location because it was the ellis island of the United States before there was an ellis island. Not a lot of people know that. This museum a way to celebrate the millions of immigrants who came straight to philadelphia and made a home here and still have a home here. Now right now there are tons of artifacts like these sculptures right here sitting in a warehouse in the smithsonian in washington, d. C. So de pilla is working to get them here and have a permanent home. This museum should be opened in the next few years. Wow what a fascinating story. Yeah. Italy place. I just spoke with members of the pemberton Fire Department. They tell me this fire looks suspicious. Theres Video Evidence proving that. This is now an investigation being headed by the state police. Now, behind me you can see crews have been out here working today. They boarded he the apartment where the flames started. Sadly theres quite a few people now here theyve lost of their belongings to the damage that spread. All neighbors could do is stand back and watch. Cell phone video captures the moments before fire crews arrived. Flames were shooting several feet into the air. The pine meadow apartment complex on hampton street in pemberton was on fire and spreading fast. My girlfriend was sleep. I just hear sirens. I look out the window and i see flames everywhere. Im like oh my god. People were screaming and i came out on the balcony and you could see the flames just shooting up and the wind was blowing. Reporter the good news is everyone in the complex made it out safe. The apartment engulfed in flames was unoccupied. But the bad news is eight families totally 25 people are temporarily homeless. The damage spread into units close by. I my sons room is damaged. Reporter in one of the rooms, the roof is caved in debris has fallen he over all over the kitchen and in one of the childrens rooms the roof caved in. Debris he is all over the toys and all over his clothes. Neighbors we spoke with say pine med he dough management has been very cooperative. You can see a Restoration Company is here to begin the rebuilding process. Were told management has even put some residents in other apartments for now. Those we spoke with say they can wait for repairs. Theyre just happy no one was hurt. Its pretty wild and they got on top and they were trying to control the fire. That is the apartment where the flames broke outs and again the Fire Department telling me just now this does look suspicious. Bob, thank you. One man is in Critical Condition right now after he was hit by an suv in northeast philadelphia. It happened about 6 30 this morning in the northbound lanes of roosevelt boulevard near grant avenue. Police say the victim was crossing the boulevard when he was hit. So far no word if the driver here will face any charges. A man rescued from the Delaware River in south philadelphia is now recovering from hypothermia. The man was pulled from the river by the Police Marine unit just before 1 30 this afternoon near the navy yard. Police are still trying to figure out why he was in the water in the first place. Well, the ma and who says he saw Jerry Sandusky abuse a young boy is about to head to court looking for justice. Former assistant football coach Mike Mcqueary is suing the university in a defamation and whistle blower suit. He says he reported to then head coach joe paterno about the abuse in 2001. Mcqueary claims the university retaliated by firing him in 2012, the same year sandusky was convicted of a be busing 10 boys. October as you know is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this week we are highlighting new advances to help you beat the odds against Breast Cancer. Many survivors adopt Healthy Eating habits after their treatment but what if what you eat during treatment could make it more successful . Thats what one local doctor is proving. Before cancer i would eat just about anything. You know, i was, oh, burgers, great. But after her diagnosis last spring, Regina Hastings got involved in a unique study making a healthy diet part of standard treatment. Dr. Nicole simone of Jefferson University hospital says the conventional wisdom has been that Cancer Patients are under too much stress to worry about changing their diet. But statistics show Breast Cancer patients gain an average of 10 pounds in their first year. Any weight gain in that first period after treatment is actually linked to increased recurrences. In dr. Simones experiments patients cut calories by 25 percent and add more protein, fruits and vegetables. The idea was to go with more of a plant based diet which is what i did. So i replaced a lot of my pasta with zucchini, burgers with port bell low mushrooms. Patients decreased processed sugars like cook he keys cakes and sodas. Anything thats going to cause an insulin spike those can actually help the tumor grow. She says proteins like nuts beans and tofu decrease those spikes reduce side effects and repair cell damage caused by cancer therapies. Dr. Simone says patients lost an average of 9 pounds but gained much more. Decrease in calories during the treatment can make the treatments work a lot better and we fond with both radiation and chemotherapy. Regina also started running just before her diagnosis and says by eating better, shes feeling better all around. Ill proving my diet just made me feel better in order to do the running. And shes doing great.
