So, be sure to keep an eye on 6abc. Com weather with the forecast today and the week ahead. And i bet the forecast had something to do with people changing their traffic plans today. Were going head over to the action News Traffic Center and check in with matt pelman. Yeah, weve heard it said that what goes up must come down, right, alicia and sharrie. Well, in this case its the opposite. What comes down must go up. All those people going down the shore on thursday and friday last week now have to come up, come home again and were seeing a long line of them and its been a long line all day long here along the garden state parkway. Currently were sitting at 23 miles of heavy traffic in the northbound lanes, not so pleasant from just north of courthouse through this point at the cape may toll plaza the whole way up to the ac exit. Its not a solid jam but its stopandgo traffic for the whole way for those 23 miles with speeds around 12 Miles Per Hour. You have all the other usual culprits as well, slow speeds on 83, on 47 through dennisville where were sitting at just 9 Miles Per Hour and on 50 north of tuckahoe that construction continues on the bridge there, so traffics having to take turns and thats not helping the situation along 50 northbound traveling through tuckahoe this afternoon. On the a. C. Expressway once you get there, its not so bad. Speeds in the 20s coming out of ac itself but then out around the egg harbor toll plaza were doing okay with all the toll lanes reopened. Good timing on that late last week. Once you get to 42 a little sluggish but again not a terrible situation. At the delaware Memorial Bridge headed into delaware all lanes back so were in the 30s. Slower going into new jersey this afternoon with speeds in the 20s and coming back from the delaware beaches a slow patch from time to time on northbound highway one through odessa but that, too, could be worse. Lets grab the ipad to the commuter report on this memorial day afternoon. Crash along new road route nine in som percent point. People trying to avoid the northbound parkway are getting stuck in the backlog from that accident. Just 7 Miles Per Hour there. It is a rough trip home from the shore. Well check it again, sharrie and leash sharks in the next half hour. Lets hope it improves along the way, matt. Thank you. Still ahead, details on a fierce battle going on involving isis in iraq. Fishermen find a body in a local creek. This Afternoon Police have figured out who the victim is but theyre still trying to figure out what happened that cost him his life. We have new details on the deal that ended the verizon strike. When tens of thousands of workers will be back on the job and what it took to get them to agree to go back to work. Trying to figure out just how a man ended up dead in Pennypack Creek this morning. Chad pradelli is live in the park near the very spot where fisherman found the mans body earlier today and a lot of questions, chad. Reporter yeah, alicia, i want to show you Pennypack Creek. You can see from the looks of it it doesnt appear very menacing but investigators warned this mornings tragedy is a remind just how dangerous creeks like this can be. Philadelphia Police Called in the marine unit to retrieve the body of 68yearold ailed sander ross who drowned in the rain swollen Pennypack Creek this morning around 9 00. Two fishermen found the body floating near the veree road overpass. As Emergency Responders were on scene, the victims wife arrived to the location. A female showed up at the park and stated that her dog that her husband takes walking every day was sitting by their car but law nowhere to be found and it was later to be determined that that was him in the creek. Reporter how ross ended up in the water unclear. Witnesses saw him floating in the creek but did not see him enter the waterway. The dog was wet. We dont know if the dog went into the water and he went after to get the dog or he fell into the water. But obviously its a tragic accident. Reporter investigators warn the creek can be deceiving and every year they respond to accidental drownings. Especially during the summer months. At some points that creek can get 10, 12 feet deep where youre standing one minute and youre in 12 feet and the currents are so strong youre not going to be able to fight it. Reporter and we should mention that the dog was uninjured and is back with the victims wife. Im live in fox chase, chad pradelli, channel6 action news. All right, chad, thank you. A iraqi troops moved into fallujah today. The Islamic State has held fallujah for more than two years now. Todays action is part of an offensive that started a week ago and is backed by u. S. The un released pictures of about 50,000 people who are out of their homes because of the fighting. The ceremony included city and county officials and members of the v. F. W. Post 1963. Sea isles mayor encouraged everyone to keep war heroes in their mind every day of the year. Time for another check of the accuweather forecast on this memorial day. Lets go on over to meteorologist adam joseph with a look at maybe some improvements . Yes, now were going to improve especially along the shore. That rain will finally kick off the coast as we go over the next few hours. Its been raining through much of the morning into the afternoon down at the shore, southern parts of delaware but for the majority of the heart of the Delaware Valley up through the Lehigh Valley some peeks of sun at times, very humid, but a lot of clouds and were tracking a front to their north and west of pottsville and harrisburg that could bring some thunderstorms or downpours in those northwestern suburbs a little later on this evening. But right now it is still raining all the way from cape may right through Long Beach Island all northbound on the garden state parkway. If youre heading away from cape may or expected to over the next hour youre still going to deal with the rain, even 47 heading out of avalon, Sea Isle City trying to cut across southern new jersey towards moorestown. A lot of the people still on the roadways trying to hit home after a long holiday weekend. And rainfall totals very impressive especially parts of burlington county, camden county, gloucester county, mount holly over 3inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Sewell, new jersey, closing in on 3inches, drexel hill about two and half, wilmington just over 2inches. Philadelphia less but still a healthy inch and a half of rain over the last 24 hours and with that additional inch and a half as were near the end of the month of may, it brings our rain up to date of 6. 68inches of rain for the month. In fact, 21 of 30 days with a trace of more of rain in philadelphia and you have to go back 26 years before the last time we saw more than 6inches of rain in the month of may. So, a very wet start as we end spring and starting to push into that Summer Season. Temperatures are cool with the rain and the clouds, only in the upper 60s to low 70s in southern new jersey and delaware. Were in the 80s where that sun has popped back out, reading lancaster and allentown. However, when you factor in the humidity, it is very tropical in those southern areas so it feels very uncomfortable where that rain is falling with those dewpoints above 65 to as much as 70 degrees. So, feeling oppressive but slightly drier air. So, even though its hotter to the north and west in the 80s it feels a little bit better with that lower humidity. As we look at satellite and radar, theres the rain skirting the coast slowly exiting to the east. The breaks of sun to the north and west and theres the front were watching coming into harrisburg and hagerstown, maryland. As we time it with future tracker, still a line here of downpours and thunderstorms, 68 in allentown as we could see some rain passing through about 8 00, 8 30 but that line falls apart as it pushes into philadelphia, so it will just abfew showers there and there continues to push off the coast setting up Tuesday Morning pretty warm already in the mid 70s but notice that sunshine is back first thing tomorrow morning. As we look at the four day at 4 00 forecast, the afternoon high tomorrow 87 degrees. The sun returns but its less humid than today and a beautiful wednesday on tap. Low humidity, lots of sun, 83. Partly sunny comfy on thursday, 79. And then some rain arrives with the next front on friday with temperatures at 76 degrees. Although the holiday not so bright, rest of the week owner friday is looking pretty good, guys. All right. Look forward to that. And we did have a nice weekend. Saturday sunday were beautiful everywhere, they really were. Downer here in the middle. Its all right. One day. A little day. Adam, thank you. People in avalon took tomorrow to remember the men and women who pay with the ultimate sacrifice. Rainy weather forced organizers to move the ceremony indoors. Carrying flags and wearing patriotic colors crowds gathered at the Community Hall at 9 oclock. Borough leaders along with representatives from American Legion post 331 led the Program Honoring those local heroes. Meteorologist adam joseph joining us now and good to see those programs still go on because it is such an important day. It really is. And they had to move inside for many people. Yes, forl for many especially southern new jersey and delaware. Its been rather humid. As we take a look region by region, this will really tell the story. It is dry, it is cloudy but it is very muggy here in center city. 78 degrees with that dewpoint pretty high at 66 with that southerly wind at 9 miles an hour. Even though theres no sun, because that dewpoint is so high, the air temperature actually goes up a couple degrees so it feels more like 80 right now in the city and as we head to cape may, a lot of fog then rain continues to fall. 66 degrees with the dewpoint at the same temperature. Basically you hit saturation a hundred percent relative humidity while its raining there and the ocean temperature at 57. Then we head to the Lehigh Valley. This is a current picture. The sun is out there in easton at the nurture nature center. 84 to degrees right now nearly a town, Lehigh Valley, dewpoint 63. And our southwesterly wind at 5 miles an hour so some are seeing the sun having some barbecues, others right now have the umbrellas up with the rain falling. Well let you know what the rest of the week has in store and well take a look at future tracker because there is a line of storms coming in from the north and west this evening coming up in that full accuweather 7day. I saw a guy using a beach umbrella as a regular umbrella to cover a double stroller on the boardwalk in ocean city. Thats a if dad right there. Right. Thats genius. It is. Yeah. Too bad for the rain in those spots. Its been a mixd day. Adam thanks. Lets get another check of the roads tonight. Matt pelman in the action News Traffic Center with an update and i imagine an early exodus in part, matt. Absolutely. We saw the exodus begin this morning around 10 oclock. The delays started to form then on the garden state parkway. You might think theyre probably winding down right now. They dont appear to be. Still 23 miles of stopandgo traffic here in the northbound lanes of the garden state parkway. Its a very slow pace, just kind of a crawl as you can see here by the cape may toll plaza so even though the jam started early it lingers and is showing no signs of letting up at this point. The worst shore jams are the roads close to the shore right now. Like route nine in somers point. New road jammed up because of a crash. Expect delays on route 50. Work on the bridge north of route 49 an traffic signal is controlling the one lane of traffic thats opened so that construction also is not helping us out. Through dennisville looking at speeds like 10 Miles Per Hour there on the northbound side of 47. So, all the normal culprits and with so many people down the shore this weekend, it is taking a long time to get home this afternoon. During the overnight hours we had a ton of rain. Heavy downpours left us with some flooding in mount laurel and union mill road remains shut down this afternoon. Stay up on 38 by the fun plex to get around that. Not so much fun the tacony palmyra bridge is going to go up in just a few minutes so start heading for the betsy ross bridge instead. Just off the bridge in frankford we still have that Fire Department activity at orthodox and tacony. Smoke coming from the fire at the american lejeune post. Aramingo is also closed. Good area to stay away from this afternoon if you can. Well check it again in the 5 oclock hour. See you then matt. Thank you. Local parades went on as scheduled today despite the dreary weather. The Pottsgrove Middle School band proudly marched in the pottstown parade. Animal rights activists held a vigil this afternoon for the gorilla killed at the cincinnati zoo. A special Response Team shot the silver back to protect a fouryearold boy who fell into the enclosure after he climbed through a barrier. Witnesses captured the amazing video of the 400pound primate looming over the child and then dragging him around. The story has generated criticism from people who believe the gorilla could have been tranquilized instead of killed. But zoo Officials Say that would not have knocked him out fast enough. That childs life was in danger and people who question that who are monday morning quarterback or second guessers dont understand that you cant take a risk with a silver back gorilla. Organizers of todays vigil said it was meant as a tribute for the gorilla and not to point fingers at anyone. Police have said there are no plans to charge the parents of the child. Meteorologist adam joseph is coming up with the exclusive accuweather 7day forecast next. Meteorologist adam joseph joining us on this memorial day. Kind of in a wash in certain parts. At the shore where a lot of people are, kind of getting out of dodge early this morning when the raindrops fell. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows a washout of a day along all shore points from bong leach island right to cape may even the beaches in delaware. It will be a a rainy memorial day but for a good part of the area, in and around philadelphia as far south as vineland, wilmington north and west allentown reading and lancaster overall cloudy with some sun returning to the north and west. Very cloudy but humid day but overall still can get some Outdoor Activities in and were tracking a front to the north and west to bring a line of downpours and thunderstorms especially for the Lehigh Valley and maybe as close as philadelphia this evening. But at the shore you still see a wall of green at times heavy rain for Cape May County through stone harbor as far north as avalon and Sea Isle City. Eventually this will push off the coast over the next hour or two. Temperatures are cooler to the south because of that rain, 66 in cape may, 65 in beach haven but it is not a chilly rain. It is a tropical rain. The humidity is sky high down to the south despite those temperatures are lower and humidity is lower despite the air temperatures are higher to the north and west. So 84 in allentown, reading and 85 in lancaster with that sunshine out. You see the spin just to the north of charleston, south carolina. Thats the remnants of bonnie and some of that tropical train of moisture coming in off of the atlantic, feeding on the east side of that circulation for the shore communities, but had a very hard time thankfully busting as far north and west as philadelphia at a with that rain and again, any of that sun starting to fade by more clouds moving in from the south and also there is that line with a front coming in from the north and west. So, future tracker shows that 8 30 tonight some of those downpours and thunderstorms drifting into northern chester county, montgomery county, bucks county, Lehigh Valley but as they approach philadelphia to the south, they basically evaporate here during the latter part of the evening hours so shouldnt make it past philadelphia at 11 oclock tonight with a lot of clouds around and temperatures in the uner 60s to near 70 remaining very muggy and then tomorrow its not as humid as today. Humidity still up a little bit but not as bad as today and very warm at 87 degrees with a lot of sunshine. That low pressure the circulation of the remnants of bonnie still drift in the carolinas as a front comes in and squashes it to the south, does not move up the coast so High Pressure comes in on wednesday behind the second front. The humidity really drops midweek. Its beautiful, sunshine and temperatures in the low 80s. The exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, 87 tomorrow. Less humid with the sun returning. A beauty here both wednesday and thursday, upper 70s to low 80s. A mixture of sun and clouds and very comfortable. And then another front arrives on friday with some scattered downpours and thunderstorms of 76 setting up for a beautiful start to the weekend on saturday of 81 and then some afternoon downpours and storms likely on sunday of 77 with the next boundary that moves away sun and clouds on monday of 77 degrees. So, really after tomorrows 87 we really step it down in the Temperature Department and we also lose that tropical humidity as well. Yeah. Still a lot of sunshine ahead. Uhhuh. Adam thank you.
