Time for the accuweather forecast and this afternoon looks very different from how it looked this morning. The action cam was in Egg Harbor Township earlier today where we got off to a very snowy start. Some spots in south jersey saw several inches of snow but this afternoon, boy, weve seen bright sunshine and that has all of us thinking spring. Yes, and what better place to dream of spring than the Philadelphia Flower Show. Thats where adam joseph is live today with the first look at the accuweather forecast. Hi, adam. Reporter yeah, maybe winterlike out there especially this morning outside but as you mentioned spring has bloomed at the Pennsylvania Convention center as the phs Philadelphia Flower Show is back in town, Opening Doors tomorrow to the public. This years theme is explore america as they celebrate 100 years of National Parks. More about this exhibit behind me in one second, but first lets take a look at the satellite and radar because the sunshine is returned in some locations after the clouds and that morning snowfall, and the storm that is really blossomed to our east, you can see almost has a center to it now with those winds wrapping around it pulling some drier air now in from the north. Thankfully we just missed this massive storm though it did bring some heavy snowfall amounts especially in southern areas. Totals in philadelphia just under an inch wilmington about an inch and a halves lindenwold in new jersey just over two and a half inches, wayne 1. 2 and in cape may the jackpot coming in just over a half a foot of snow. As you look at the temperatures, it is still chilly down to the south where that snow pack is still yet to melt. Wildwood 34 degrees, philadelphia up to 40 degrees, reading 40 degrees and allentown on the brink of that 40degree mark as well. As we look ahead to that accuweather forecast, it will be a seasonable weekend ahead. And then on sunday morning, well have another round of some rain and snow showers but then the 70s return next week feeling like spring outside and this image that youre seeing here behind me is called after the fire by stony bank nurseries, it is inspired by Yellowstone National park. Basically guys it resembles a charred landscape where the growth underneath comes back so its kind of like a death meets back to life imagery behind me. Much more on the flower show and show you that main exhibit in a little bit. Cool stuff t looking forward to seeing more. The temperature not the only things rising. Gas prices have been inching up as we move closer to spring but they are still well below what most of us have become hack covered to me to over the last few years. Vernon odom live in bala cynwyd with more on the numbers and the direction were heading in. Vernon. Reporter good afternoon, brian. Compared to the higher gas prices weve had to endure in recent years, the cost per gallon is way down these days and the experts say its pretty much going stay that way. For me its a fact of life to go with the variations in the price cause to do what i have to do. Reporter at the end of january the average price per gallon was 1. 99 the lowest price since 2001. It dropped even lower aaa says in february as wholesalers cut prices to clear out winter blended gas. Weve seen prices locally here in the philly five county area climb two cents in the last week. Nationally weve seen the average increase eight cents in the last week. Reporter now tracking experts sa saw it slowly creepig up as the switch over to summer blends and many folks feel the uptick. Before it was terrible. Every time you look around you have to make a decision, a home decision, a household decision between the bills and the gas. I believe it was 1. 79 last week and now its 1. 85. Just a slight increase but not filling it up as much. I drive a lot so it does affect me. Reporter but you hadnt really noticed the rise in the last couple weeks or so he. No, it was going down as of here. It was 1. 87 earlier. Reporter experts say it was never destined remain under two dollars a gallon but even at the height of Summer Travel coming up it will never reach anywhere near the price levels of recent summers. Aaa says the National Price will hover around 2. 10. That compares to last summer of 2. 85 so its significantly down. Reporter so, brian, we found sort of a mixed bag of reaction out here today. So it looks like those going off and driving off on vacations this Summer Season will be pretty much in a good mood. All i can say about that is hallelujah. Live in bala cynwyd, im vernon odom, channel6 action news. Preach, vernon. Thanks very much. It is time for a first check of the action news traffic report. Elsewhere on 76, the pennsylvania turnpike, a broken down vehicle westbound by valley forge. That cleared out. But theres a accident blocking the ramp from the ebbet side to route 100, the downingtown exit. Get onto 100 northbound and do the old flip around or go eastbound to route 29 if you have the ez pass. Have a motorcycle crash this afternoon in middletown township delco. Its along bortondale road near knowlton road. As we look at the wind gusts, they are pretty gusty especially southern parts of new jersey and the coastline because of that storm that is developing over the open water of the atlantic, youre still funneling in some of those winds. Still clocking in 28 miles an hour at the Atlantic City airport, 24 in wildwood and 23 in millville. As we take a look at satellite and radar, you can see that massive storm that is to our east and brought almost a half a foot of snow in southern parts of new jersey, that storm is pulling away, its moving in drier air for overnight tonight, so the sky will turn clear later on tonight but it stays on the chilly side with temperatures between 22 and 27 degrees with a much lighter wind out of the north. As we go into the weekend, there will be some changes. Were going to have a little bit of sunshine here early tomorrow morning with temperatures right around the Freezing Point but those clouds will quickly gobble up that sunshine as they work in from the west into the afternoon, seasonable with temperatures in the lower and the middle 40s. And then saturday night into sunday morning, another weak system is going to be passing by so well see the introduction to more light rain and snow showers. Most of the snow showers you see in the blue is north of wilmington, some rain showers to the south where temperatures are a little warmer and then as we get into sunday afternoon, most of those rain and snow showers will fall apart. There will still be a lot of clouds around. There could be a spitting shower with temperatures around 43 in the lehigh valley, 48 in philadelphia, 48 in millville and 47 in dover. As we look at the four day at 4 00 forecast, tomorrow 45 degrees as those clouds build in the afternoon. I like that touch of the tulips on the four day forecast as well. On sunday morning snow and rain showers. A little drier in the afternoon at 48 degrees and then much warmer with high clouds here on monday of 60 degrees and then feeling like spring. As we look at satellite and radar we notice that that precipitation is far off the coast but that storm has become a beast. Just to our east. Thankfully we missed out on the heaviest amount of the precipitation but we got a little blast of winter this morning and now were starting to see some of that drier air filter in from the north and the east. As we look at the forecast for tonight, turning clear and it will be on the chilly side with temperatures between 22 and 27 degrees with that very light wind out of the north. As we get into the first part of the weekend on saturday were going to have some sunshine to begin with in the morning and then the clouds will increase in the afternoon but its seasonable for this time of the year, mid 40s for highs, 44 in the lehigh valley, 41 in cape may and 45 down in dover. Then as we get into the second half of the weekend on sunday, were going to have another very weak system that is going to be passing in from the west and you can see some of the rain and the snow showers that developed. 32 in lancaster, 32 in reading, 34 in wilmington. Rain showers down to the south and again we could see a coating to an inch north and west of philadelphia, especially towards the lehigh valley. In the afternoon, those showers break apart. Again its a very weak system and then those temperatures bounce into the middle and upper 40s despite that we will see a decent amount of cloud cover during the afternoon but overall the weekend not a lot of sunshine, a lot of clouds and well watch a very weak system that passes by. Then as we get into the middle of next week, were looking at those temperatures scoring into the 70s as that warmth really builds with the ridge in the east coast. And that is not going to stay just for one day but up to three days in the middle of next week. As we look at the exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, were going to start on the chilly seasonable side for the upcoming weekend and again, morning sun tomorrow giving way to clouds in the afternoon. There will be a morning rain or a snow shower depending if youre north or south of philadelphia on sunday morning. Sunshine in the afternoon at 48. We excel the temperature above average to 60 on monday with a lot of high clouds and then as we get into tuesday, temperatures will be up to 70 degrees and then record warmth here by a degree or so, feeling like spring on wednesday and we stay in the 70s for thursday despite a shower and then a chance of a few more showers at the end of next week on friday but a pretty decent warm looking seven day with temperatures still in the 60s a week from now.
