Vatican official in charge of the world meeting of families is reportedly under investigation now for embezzlement. European news organizations are reporting that archbishop paglia is among the people suspected in connection with the sale of an historic castle in italy. The building was sold four years ago for about 1. 1 million. At the time he was serving as the bishop of the town where that castle is located. Prosecutors say paglia led the conspiracy to buy that castle with church money at millions of dollars less than its market value. Philadelphia archdiocese released a Statement Today saying they are saddened by the news but that it will not affect plans for the popes visit here in september. Police in delaware say theyve taken down a massive drug operation. Dozens of suspects are in custody facing hundreds of charges. New Castle County Police held a News Conference today announcing that 42 people have been arrested for dealing and possessing drugs. Most of the arrests were made yesterday and included the fbi, the state police and Wilmington Police department. Police confiscated more than 10,000 bags of heroin, 27 grams of marijuana 25 grams of cocaine and more than 17,000. Widespread Violent Criminal Networks exist because of their ability to adapt avoid detection and the force of law but in the end they will be outsmarted and they will lose. The sting was called operation smackdown not because of the drugs involved but because investigators say the ring was led by a man named adrian smack. Seven suspects are still at large. The 79yearold was elected today in switzerland where just days ago officials arrested some of that organizations very top leaders. He was only facing one other candidate, prince ali bin al husain of jordan. Several other candidates dropped out saying the process was a fraud. Blatter has been implicated in several corruption scandals but is not facing any criminal charges at this point. His new term is for four years. Hes already been in charge of fifa since 1998. Amtrak is trying to return personal belongings to the passengers who were on board train 188. When that train derailed on may 12th many of the victims went straight to the hospital and never got their bags. Others left the scene of the crash without their belongings belongings. Amtrak says it recovered items from the wreckage. Amtrak sent a letter to those passengers telling them about the process. Eight people died and more than 200 people were hurt in the wreck. In some parts of texas today, everywhere you turn there is water. On this highway in dallas hundreds of drivers were stuck for hours in flash floods over took the road. Drivers couldnt go forward or backward. All they could do is wait and just hope that water would recede. Crews finally brought in heavy equipment to remove the concrete barrier in the middle so that drivers could turn around. Never seen anything like this. Aint no way to get to work today. Wow. Dennis hastert stepped down from his job at a d. C. Lobbying firm today in the wake of his indictment by a grand jury. Hes facing mysterious criminal charges. Hes accused of paying someone 3pointer 5 million to keep quiet about something in his past and then lying to investigators about the whole thing. No one has said yet exactly what the coverup is about but the indictment seems to indicate that it has to do with his time as a teacher and wrestling coach in yorkville illinois. The United States government took another step toward normalizing relations with cuba today by removing the island nation from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Secretary of state john kerry signed the order which came 45 days after president obama first announced plans for it. U. S. Lawmakers didnt do anything to block the move. Removal from the terror list is a key demand from cuba as part of the ongoing negotiations between the two countries. The u. S. Economy shrank in the First Quarter of 2015 even though the government originally projected that it grew. The Commerce Department says gross dom met particular product which is the value of goods and services produced in the United States was down. 7 of a percent down from the original projection that it grew. 2. Economists say a widening trade gap is to blame. That news sent stocks falling right at the open today and they had a very difficult time recovering. In fact, they did not. The Washington Monument is now opened again after it closed for almost two days because of an electrical problem. The National Park service says the elevator to the top of the monument wasnt working. The problem started wednesday night but it took awhile before crews figured out what caused it. The monument reopened at noon. People on a japanese island are trying to escape the path of an erupting volcano right this very moment. The eruption was caught on camera this morning just before 10 00 a. M. Local time. Right now its in the mid 80s for anywhere from wilmington, philadelphia to trenton. All points to the north and west but that sea breeze again going to work this afternoon only in the mid 60s from cape may right up to almost long beach islands and even dover with that wind coming off of the bay, it is 75 degrees presentspresently. All the storms have been pushed down to the south. The front slipped in overnight settling west of washington. It will remain there over the next 12 hours and then it continues to journey back to the north and east. Thats going to flood in the humidity again saturday into sunday and eventually well be tracking a cold front where you can see unsettled weather through northern texas, saint louis cutting across the middle part of the great lakes. That will be sliding in here late in the weekend and early next week. Tonight its very mild, patchy clouds but overall its going to be fairly comfortable. 63 allentown, 64 in trenton. As we get into the afternoon if there are any popups late in the day it is farther to the north up in the poconos so if youre heading up into the mountains just be prepared for that probably in the afternoon. But in the poconos there could be that spotty afternoon thunderstorm or downpour with a temperature at 78 degrees. Future tracker then on sunday that front starts to close in, so its very late in the afternoon and evening that storms could fire up especially north and west of philadelphia and then start to migrate to the south and east. At the shore on sunday right now looks like most of the day could be fairly sunny hazy and warm and any of the storms on sunday could be strong, if not even severe as they pass through. Your four day at 4 00 is breezy more humid 88 degrees. Tomorrow watch for those strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms arriving from the north. Sunday 88 degrees and then on monday, the front stalls, low pressure tries to develop along it. So we could see periods of rain here on monday with temperatures around 70 and the front could linger early on tuesday with a few more showers of 70 degrees. And still ahead here today, the man who shot his way into a township meeting in the poconos admits what he did and immediately learns his punishment. Plus video shows a man walking up to a car getting in and speeding off. The problem is hes not the owner. Now police are asking for your help to track him down. The man who went on a deadly shooting spree during a municipal meeting in the poconos will spend the rest of his life in jail. Rock knee newell has pleaded guilty to killing three people and injuring two others in ross township monroe county. He was angry after he was forced off his debris covered property so he shot his way into the meeting. That was back in august of 2013. After newell entered his plea a judge sentenced him to three life terms plus between 61 and 122 years in prison. Philadelphia police are looking for the man who was caught on camera stealing a car in point breeze. It happened on memorial day on the 1900 block of anan street. At first the man was checking cars to see if any were unlocked. Once he got inside one of them he took what he could and put it in a bag. When he got in a seconds car you know it, he started driving away. Police are asking anyone with any information to please call them. A food fight over the last piece of meat ended with one woman in hospital, the other in prison. The back story to this Backyard Barbecue showdown. But we begin with the latest on what was another night of bullets and bloodshed in the city of chester. A gunman opened fire on the 2700 block of West Third Street just after 11 00 p. M. When it was over, four males ranging in age from 14 to 47 had been shot. One fatally. And the killer was nowhere to be found. Even more alarming, police say murders like this arent becoming more common, theyre becoming a sick source of pride for some. Action News Reporter vernon odom is live in chester to explain this very disturbing story. Vernon. Reporter this kind of violence is all too frequent here in the city of chester. Police sources tell me today there were at least two gunmen firing away wildly last night killing one. Chester detectives scour the 2700 block of west third today in the wake of last nights night of gunfire. Police say they released 30 shots from a high powered handgun and assault rifle. The targets at least one of the males sitting on this stoop ranging in age from 14 to 47. One man aged 21 Police Believe was the primary target. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld but police say he was a reputed drug lord well known to them. The other three will survive the attack. As it appears it might have been some innocent bystanders caught up in the melee. Reporter this was chester seventh homicide of the year. All drug underworld related Police Sources tell me. A life long resident of chesters west end says this kind of dodge city violence is nothing new in this small town with so many mean streets. The Younger Generation dont have any respect for themselves, their parents or the elderly folks and all this crime is connected. Reporter police say there were lots of witnesses to the shooting last night as they search for Surveillance Video. Some have talked to us and some have chosen to remain silent. Reporter a new trend emerging police say assassins putting pictures of their kills on tshirts then proudly posting a picture of themselves on facebook wearing the tshirt but never saying i did it. Tonight Chester Police say they can use any help they can get from the public to solve this latest murder case. Live at Police Headquarters in chester, vernon odom, channel6 action news. All right, vernon, thanks very much. Philadelphia police have released Surveillance Video now of a brazen daylight shooting that critically injured a man earlier this week. Cameras captured that suspect firing a gun along the 500 block of east cambria street in kensington wednesday evening. Three of those bullets hit a 29yearold man in the back and the stomach. He was rushed to temple hospital where he remains in Critical Condition. Police say the gunman who should be considered armed and dangerous is known to frequent the area where that shooting happened. Officers are also searching for two men who went on a city wide crime spree for more than two months now. The pair was captured on surveillance tape robbing a citgo station on susquehanna street on march fifth. But investigators say this is just the very tip of the iceberg. The pair has hit a 7eleven, pizza shops bars, restaurants, a steak shop, even robbed people on the street. At least 14 robberies in all. If you have any information on who these men are you are asked to call police. Police in delaware say an attentive coworker helped them track down a man who allegedly groped a woman in a park. A tip from that colleague led newark officers to carlos morciega today. They say the 39yearold grabbed his victim as she ran past him in Rittenhouse Park last tuesday. Police say morciega then held the woman from behind but she was able to break free. Morciega has been charged with offensive touching. A two car accident cents an suv into a wall right outside the channel six studios today. It happened on monument road in Wynnefield Heights just before 1 00 this afternoon. After hearing the impact several 6abc employees rushed outside to see if they could help. They offered those involved water and tried to comfort them until Philadelphia Police arrived. Fortunately nobody was hurt. This accident is still under investigation. I was sitting at my desk thirty niney this afternoon and this suv saw that happen right below where your desk is. Absolutely. You think its coming out of the target there or something. Everybody ended up well there. All right adam onto the weekend forecast. Looking pretty good. It could be another warm humid one as we take a look at the temperatures right now. 86 in philadelphia. Temporary break from the real humid air but that will rush back in as you can see really no cooldown all the way back to cincinnati and saint louis in the lower 80s. So may up to this point looks like were likely going to go down as the second warmest in philadelphias history with temperatures running close to 6 degrees above normal and its extremely dry as well. We only had really a drop in the bucket this month, only 1. 19inches, were over 2inches below normal for the month and as you can see much of our viewing area, the after Delaware Valley right now, it is. Chopper six live over the intersection of 62nd and reedland southwest philadelphia. You see the crime tape. Heres why. A woman is in very Critical Condition after being shot here in southwest philadelphia apparently happened about 20 minutes ago right near this intersection. Details very preliminary right now but the woman is thought to be about 50 years old was rushed to penn presbyterian hospital. At this time no arrests, no word on a motive for the shooting. We dont know what precipitated this, led up to it. Its also not clear at this point if the woman is the only victim but our cameraman on the scene also reported hearing gun shots after he arrived there so very much an active scene in southwest philadelphia. Well follow this one up as the news continues and we get more details on this tonight. To other news this afternoon, it was science day at Signal Hill Elementary School in voorhees, new jersey. Police in indiana say a fight over the last rib at a barbecue ended with one woman stabbing another with a fork. Sabrina davis told officers she was upset with the victim for taking that last piece of meat. Davis allegedly confronted her in the kitchen and a scuffle broke out. Police say thats when davis used the fork in her hand to dab the woman in the eye. Fortunately that victim was not seriously hurt. Davis is facing a number of charges including assault with a deadly weapon. An eightyearold ohio girl managed to fight off an attempted kidnapper using her parents advice. Erica miller was riding home from school in columbus yesterday when a masked man stopped his car and offered her candy. The man then jumped out of the car and grabbed her wrists but the second grader remembered what her parents told her to do if a stranger ever gets too close for comfort. Starting to bite him. Well, that worked. The man fled once erica freed her arm and has not been seen since. Ericas parents are just grateful she had the presence of mind in that situation to put their advice into action. There could be a scattered popup storm in the poconos tomorrow afternoon and evening and then on sunday as the front slowly inches in from the north and low pressure starts to develop along the front, well see sun and clouds most of the day on sunday but in the afternoon and evening from the northwest to the south and east, there could be some gusty afternoon downpours and thunderstorms and some of those storms could be strong, if not severe as that front closes in. Friday night the big story on action news is developing right now. Police say they are close to arresting a person of interest in the Sexual Assault of a woman in her south philadelphia home. Now, that assault and burglary happened monday on south rosewood street and the suspect has been on the run ever since. Action News Reporter chad pradelli has been covering this story all week. Reporter rick, sources tell me the person of interest in these attacks Raheem Felder has reached out to an attorney and is working on the details to orchestrate his surrender. That said u. S. Marshals and Philadelphia Police continue to search for him. Philadelphia police say Raheem Felder is a person of interest in the Home Invasion and Sexual Assault that left a sense of unease in the south philadelphia points breeze neighborhoods. U. S. Marshals now have an arrest warrant for a parole violation. Felder served 12 years behind bars for attempted murder. His mother has been pleading for her son to turn himself in to authorities. I need you to come home, son. Turn yourself in. Get this over with. Reporter felder was identified as a person of interafter Police Released Surveillance Video and more importantly these still images images. Tips poured in and Police Quickly identified felder. Authorities raided his home on the 1300 block of chadwick yesterday. Sources say they found gloves, sneakers and clothing that appeared to match those worn in one or both of the attacks. Police want to question him in connection with the rape of a woman monday morning on the 1800 block of rosewood. And attempting to sexually assault a woman on the 1700 block of chadwick in late march. And again police know who theyre looking for
