Reporter matt, right now crews are working to remove some of these cars from the track here and you can see they have these huge lights set up so they can continue to work. The injured in this include two septa operators and two pap jersey. Three were treated and released but one of the septa operators remains in the hospital in critical condition. This Investigation Continues though o the passengers should have already gotten off on the platform before this happened yesterday so its unclear why those two were still on board. Federal investigators from the National Transportation safety board were on the scene in upper darby last night after a collision tuesday morning. Three six car trains were involved. Seven cars in all derailed. Morning rush was under way when this happened around 8 10 a. M. Saw the second train pulling in and slowly stop. Then i saw three cars tip over. Reporter septa Officials Say a moving train on number two loop collided with the rear of a stopped train. The top train had been waited to approach the terminal. The impact forced the train into the lane of app third track t its unclear why that first train didnt track. Theres an automatic control system. Its a signal system so the trains move under signal authority and the train the signal system will keep the trains separated. There is manual override thats done from our control center if the need arises but the train control system should still keep the trains apart. Reporter and the ntsb is investigating. Theyre still in town. We dont know if were going hear anything from them today but at this point septa is referring questions about the investigation to the National Transportation safety board. As you can see work continues at the site. Victory avenue remains closed. As far as service this morning, at this point septa cant use this loop because theyre still doing work on it so they have to turn around trains at the terminal as opposed to the loop. Still, even though thats not quite as efficient they said that service should look pretty close to normal this morning so passengers along this stretch should not expect major disruptions due to this according to septa.
