Nearly 40,000 verizon employees across the country he are set to walk off the job after 10 months of negotiations, the company and the Union Workers couldnt work out a contract. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is live outside of verizons ninth and race street location. Workers are expected to picket at that location in about an hour and a half. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning, today. Thats right, about 40,000 are expected to strike at two dozen locations on the east coast and that includes here in philadelphia. Like you said they have been working without a contract since it expired back in august and negotiations are still at a standstill but to give you an idea of what this strike could look like. Heres some video he from a strike back in 2011 that lasted about two weeks. The workers this time are at odds with verizon. Their members of two Unions Communications of work and international brotherhood. Verizon wireless is not affected by the potential strike. The issues at hand wages, job security and healthcare also pensions. The head of cwa says retired employees could be in jepp deal. Many fear the company will make layoffs easier and instead they will rely more on contract workers. Now, verizon says that they have spent 10 months working to come to an agreement. They do not take strike threats lightly they tell us. Back out here live verizon says that they have proposed a 6. 5 percent wage increase, affordable healthcare and also competitive Retirement Benefits with a 401k company match. Now, in the event that this strike does come through, that this does happen like it is expected at 6 00 a. A father who because carjacked and shot is in Critical Condition this morning. Chopper6 was over the scene while we dont have that we have ground video here of the scene in West Kensington. This happened while the man was waiting to pick up his 10yearold son. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is live outside Temple University hospital where that father is being treated. Katherine reporter matt, thats right, the father is 35 years old. He remains here at Temple University hospital in Critical Condition. He was shot in his neck. He was pistol whipped and now has lacerations to his head. This all happened as you said as he was waiting to pick up his son. Lets go to video of the stolen pickup truck that was recovered minutes after it was stolen in West Kensington late yesterday afternoon. This happened shortly before 5 00 p. M. Police say the victim had been waiting to pick up his 13yearold son at a home on the 2000 block of north bodine just before 5 00 p. M. Thats when two men approached him. Police say they dragged him from his 2016 dodge ram pickup truck pistol whipped him and shot him in his neck. They left him lying in the road bleeding and took off in the pickup truck but dumped the vehicle about six blocks away. Police did see private surveillance cameras and theyre searching the vehicle for other evidence. The vehicle that is recovered we did find what appears to be some fresh fingerprints on the driver door. So, the detectives are going to dust this vehicle. Reporter officers on patrol did find the victim lying in the street bleeding and initially he hadnt realized that he had been shot he just told them that he had been struck in his head and carjacked so officers initially took him to episcopal hospital. New information on this story. Mercer county police say they arrested a carjacker who attacked a 77yearold woman. This incident happened in the acme parking lot at the Lawrence Shopping Center on monday afternoon. Investigators say the attacker pulled woman out of her car and drove off. Police believe the same person used the victims credit cards at three Convenience Stores in Mercer County. And also robbed a shop rite in east windsor on monday night. The victim is expected to be okay. A High School Science teacher from Mercer County is now under arrest. Hes accused of having inappropriate contact with a female student. 26yearold Edmund Harmon is charged with three counts of endangering the welfare avenue child and one count of criminal sexual contact. The student went to the high school looking for extra credit. Thats when Authorities Say harman fondled the girly he allegedly told her to send elimination photographs of herself. A former camden firefighter has been convicted of ripping off taxpayers in a disability fraud. 41yearold shane streeter collected more than 82,000 in benefits after claiming to have been disabled by back and neck injuries suffered while on duty. But an investigation revealed that streeter was working as a Marshall Arts instructor even taking part in competitive mma fights as you see in that youtube video. He now faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing next month. A new version of a bill to legalize medical mr. Want in pennsylvania is now in the hands of state lawmakers in the house.
