Firefighters order residents of a south philadelphia neighborhood out of their homes because of what was considered a suspicious smell at first. Reporter matt, were hearing six homes were evacuated at least nine people and authorities remain on the scene here in south philadelphia trying to find the source of a possible gas leak. Pgw is here digging in the streets. The Fire Department is here as well on the 1300 block of snyder. Firefighters tell us a passerby called eight strong smell of fumes around 3 00 a. M. And when the Fire Department arrived they smelled it, too. They took readings and evacuated some apartments here. They determined the smell was coming from outside of these homes and the work is now under way. Residents tell us they woke up to the Fire Department knocking on their door. I was woken up at like 3 oclock in the morning. They were knocking on the door. Like startled and they told me to evacuate. Thats all i thats all i know. Reporter did they tell you why . Gas. An overpass on a busy highway in ohio came crashing down overnight. At least one person, a construction worker, is dead. Erin ohearn is live in the Satellite Center and shes got more on the tragedy. Good morning, erin. Good morning, tam. A bizarre and tragic accident. This happened on the busy interstate of 75 near the downtown area of cincinnati around 10 30 last night. Police are calling this a workplace accident. Unfortunately as you said one of the construction workers on the site lost his life. Now, apparently crews were taking down an old bridge when something went terribly wrong. Fire Officials Say the tractortrailer involved struck a collapsed section as the bridge hit the ground. Now, the driver of that big rig escaped with just minor injuries. Its just incredible. As you take a look at the accident scene here. Unfortunately as we said, though, that construction worker was killed. Right now the city is working with the department of transportation to figure out how this happened. Its going have to be determined by some level of investigation. Once again its a workplace incident. Youve got a lot of heavy equipment in a very, very heavy construction site. Who knows what happened but we will find out working internally with respect to our own investigation process as well as working with the state department of transportation. Now, clearly this investigation has just begun and there is a lot of cleanup to be done. Hundreds a hundred tons of concrete are going have to be removed from that road and that southbound stretch of 75 is expected to be closed for at least 48 hours. Now, this isnt necessarily going to be a whole lot but it could be enough to put down some small accumulations from about i95 and points north. You can see that it does get out of here in time for the thursday morning commute so thats good. If there is an impact from this, it is most likely the evening commute tomorrow. What are we looking at out of this . Well its a possibilities that we get anywhere from about an inch to 2inches in areas where we dont manage to waste some of this precipitation with rain. Down to the south probably more like a coating because youre going to get mainly rain down there. Again the pig evident potential impact would be the wednesday evening rush if that precipitation arrives fast enough youd have reduced it.
