Of the last several months, years there has been all kinds of issues both on a national and state level about this life matters and that life matters. But in the city of philadelphia all the lives matter and i am somewhat concerned because i dont see the level of passion by all of us as it relates to the close to 500 shootings that happened in this city this year. We understand the significance of the opioid issue beyond anyones expectation that is very important and the response to that was quite aggressive. Both on the national, state and local level. We understand the issue with respect to black lives matter, because they do. Particularly as it relates to issues between the police and in our city, we have a good police force and a process that establishes the the relationships but on a National Level there are significant challenges but its no longer okay to say, the violence and the numbers in terms of homicide are under 300 we act like that is okay. That is not okay. I dont want to hear about ten years ago what the numbers were. When we get to the point where its okay to have 300 homicides in the city of philadelphia we have a problem. We are meeting with stake holders and i talked to the mayor and we are meeting the first of the week to talk about all of the issues and initiatives we have worked on and we concluded an aggressive and i like to say, i would like to congratulate the criminal Justice Reform committee, but the other side of the equation, the victims of this very, very, very problematic violence in our street. I can recall a time when you dont want to call 911 because the police would knock on your door and say did you call 911 and they were sitting there watching, but given the level of technology we have in our country and city, you cant tell me there is not a way to preprovide an opportunity for people to provide information and not getting traced back and they dont have to look over their shoulder for a shooter to take out a witness. We have to figure that out. We have to in a comprehensive way to get effect today Law Enforcement, officials, and people advocated against gun violence and the archaic gun laws we may not solve the problem and bring it down a tic or two but we have to deal with the underlying problem.
