President donald trump and First Lady Melania Trump on the front steps all four of them standing together before the obamas left the white house one final time. From there they traveled to the Capitol Building together. Mr. Trumps arrival punctuated by a thumbs up and afternoon today came the words donald trump has been waiting to hear since well before launching his campaign. For the First Time Ever anywhere, the 45th president of the United States of america, donald j. Trump. [cheers and applause] reporter and with that mr. Trump took the podium for an inauguration speech that lasted just about 16 minutes so somewhat short by historic standards. He pledged that from this day forward america will come first and although he praised the obamas for their graciousness he offered a blistering review for the long time leaders sitting right there behind himly. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. For too long a small group in our nations capitol has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished. Reporter from there President Trump said about doing some official business. He did sit down at a desk and sign a couple of official proclamations including the official nominations for his cabinet and we anticipate perhaps later on this evening hell sign a series of executive orders which ones just yet are not yet clear. Well, of course there was a lot of pomp and circumstance on that stage behind me earlier today but really its all about the parties now and thats happening as we speak in the form of the inaugural parade and for that we send things over to my colleague, Sharrie Williams who is standing by along pennsylvania avenue. Hey, sharrie. Reporter hey, brian. This of course youre right about the partying, this celebration is all bowel about welcoming in President Trump. Were right here along pennsylvania avenue which has found in a long runway to welcome in this president. This is close, though, to where President Trump got out of his car today. He actually got out twice during the parade and walked a short distance with his wife melania and his son barron. Bands from all over the United States, they are marching in beat entertaining the crowds that have traveled from distances across this country to be here for this. People have chanted trump, trump, and u. S. A. Taking in these moments. For many of them they are just elated because they have envisioned this day especially those who believed him from the very beginning from mr. Trumps campaign who has now taint all the way to becoming the next president. We got out in the crowds and talked to some of these people who have come from all over including people we found from the delaware valley. I think its great to see everyone, you know, together unified. Law in the car so i didnt get to see him get out of the car but even through the window its good enough. My son its his 18th birthday today. Hes marching. Its great. I think its a great opportunity. Theyll never experience this again unless theyre in the parade or here. Im 64 and i figured theres not too many more inaugurations i would have a opportunity to visit so this is im stillly in good health so this is a good time to come. Reporter now, most of those that you just heard, you know, maybe they had no problems but there were some Trump Supporters who were slowed down when trying to enter through those security checkpoints along the mall here and that, of course, was a delay that police tell us was caused by protestors who were there to also of course voice their concerns and those destructive protests that have been happening today just a few blocks away from where we are right here. But things escalated though when a vehicle was actually set on fire. Thick smoke filled the air as riot police tried to remove people from that area. Theyve used what appeared to be flash bang gren played to help control the scene during at chaotic confrontation. Police had 20 use pepper spray on the protestors. An unknown number of people were arrested for damaging property and attacking officers. We watched that number grow throughout the day as far as arrests. Earlier about a mile from the National Mall a large group smashed the windows on downtown businesses including a starbucks, a bank of america also a mcdonalds. This group was denouncing capitalism and the new administration. So, it is a celebratory mood where we are right here along this parade route but there is a mixed feeling in the air as we are covering all of that for you. This parade still going on welcoming in donald j. Trump, the newest president of the United States. Brian and i will be here throughout the evening to continue to cover everything thats happening in washington, d. C. For now ill send it back inside to rick. All right, sharrie, thank you there from the nations capitol. Back here at home people also took to the streets to protest this new administration. Philadelphia police kept a close eye on several events planned throughout the day. Gray hall spoke to some of the demonstrators and joins us from Philadelphia City hall with that story tonight. Gray. Reporter rick, we can tell you those protestors were here for about an hour. Things got loud at times but for the most part this was app peaceful demonstration. As you mentioned there was a large police presence. Dozen hit the streets of Center City Just moments after donald trump was sworn in as the 45th president to show their disapproval. Today we already have all mentions of Climate Change erased from the president s web site, the lgbtq page is on. We see it already as of noon today that theres a shift in, you know, power, that i dont approve of on every level. Its like the list is so long we would be here until, i dont know, tomorrow. Reporter it was mix of groups demonstrating but all had a similar message. They did not vote for trump and dont have that confidence in his presidency. Even though we have to live with him as the president we dont have to be happy. I mean when obama was in office, there was a lot of people that werent very happy with him. They let their voice be heard. Its our one. I think the protest is an amendment right. I think what we have now more than anything is our constitution and to be patriotic doesnt mean that we are subservient to any figure or any administration. To be patriotic is you support the place and the people that of placism despite the opposition and protests like these happening across the country the reality is it does not change the outcome of the election but many say this is not about being disruptive but about sending a message to washington. I think hes going find wherever he goes were going to be there. Same way i would hold any politician accountable. Any marchers have chronic illnesses. If they lose their healthcare theyll die because they dont have the money. Thats not something we can sit around and wait for the next election for. Reporter many protestors tell me in the future there will be more demonstrations just like this one. On the flip side of all of this those who support President Donald Trump say those who did not vote for him should give this new president a chance. Live in center city, gray hall, channel6 action news. Rick. All right, gray, thank you and a short time ago this protest kicked off at independence mall. Hundreds of people rallied against trumps presidency. Many protestors spoke out in opposition to trumps immigration proposals and made a point to welcome people of all ethnicities races, ages sexual orientations and gender identities. Reporter many people across the tristate region were watching from home no matter who they voted for during the election. Vernon odom joins us live outside of National Constitution center with reaction to todays inauguration. Vernon. Reporter good evening, rick. I wasnt at home but i was in one of the most appropriate places in philadelphia to watch todays ceremony. There are few better locations to witness some of this history than here in the cradle of liberty and the building built to honor it. The office of president of the United States. Reporter at the National Constitution center at least four dozen gathered to watch the ceremony. All were silent as they watched the president take the oath and then deliver his speech. Most with whom i spoke had their own partisan views but all were happy to witness the peaceful transfer of power. I think, you know, we have to honor that donald trump is the one that was elected and we got to move forward and hopefully it will be a good four years and hell have the United States in his best interests. I thought that the tone of the speech was very good. The fact that, you know, that theres a lot of polarization in the country right now and one thing i think we can all agree on is america. We all want america to succeed. Reporter we heard major proand con about the new president. I see all these riots in the streets and im not think its as peaceful as people are say. Im impressed how politically michelle and obama are handing overpower. I thought it was beautiful, it was well done i came here because this was such a Historic Place to watch it. It was great to watch here. During the election trump has been a very polarizing figure and so i so i really appreciate that his message has been unity and patriotism. Reporter rick, it is very serene and peaceful in this section of olde city tonight. Im vernon odom channel6 action news reporting live. Vernon thank you. It took them to Andrews Air Force base in maryland where mr. Obama thanked his former staff. The obama family is now off to california for a vacation in palm springs. And there was this surprising moment during the post inaugural luncheon as President Trump acknowledged his former opponents Hillary Clinton shook her hand and thanked her for coming. You can see how thats lifting up to the north. We still have a a lot of low level moisture so its going to be very tough to break up any clouds overnight or tomorrow even some fog developing overnight and then as we fly out to the west, next storm system is moving into california with some heavy rain, some mountain snow. This is the system that moves in on sunday and it really will intensify. Its a powerful storm system. It will move very quickly across the nation and then the setup has High Pressure up to the north. Thats going to do a couple things. First of all, it will slow down the storm so it will be a Long Duration storm. It also increases the gradient that easterly fetch so that pulse in a lot of moisture. Sunday night through monday were looking at one to 3inches of rain and those winds are going to be very strong out of the east. Were looking at wind gusts inland 45 to 55 Miles Per Hour along the shore wind gusts 55 to 65 Miles Per Hour. This is sunday night through monday. That will bring the potential for some coastal flooding, beach erosion and even some spotty Power Outages at the shore but again, this is going to be a rain event. This is not going to be a snow event. So, the exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, tomorrow is the better of the two days but still kind of a gray day t mostly cloudy, perhaps a little bit of brightening in the skies in the afternoon.
