Todays round of protests came courtesy of an Organization Called surj which stands for showing up for racial justice. Police commissioner richard ross says after dealing with similar protests over the past several days, he is very proud with the way his department has handled these marches. With for them to be able to deal with some of the things theyve been dealing with, some of the invectives that be hurled their way. Septa leased trains from amtrak and new Jersey Transit to add 1700 seats to its modified schedule. Former Philadelphia Elementary School principal Evelyn Cortez was sentenced to 10 years probation today for her role in a cheating scandal. Cortez was arrested in may 2014 following allegations that she and teachers of cayuga Elementary School changed students answers on the state psa exams. Philadelphia police are trying to track down a package thief who is using an indigo bike share rental as his get away vehicle. The first incident happened june 30th in the 600 block of addison street just before 12 30 in the afternoon. The thievery moved a package from a doorstep and rode off on a bike. Police believe that is the same man seen on the 500 block of south 26th street at 3 15 that same afternoon. The suspect removed a package from a storm door there before riding off. One major venue for political fest will be here at the historical Landmark Union league on south broad. Governor tom wolf is letting the 31 billion budget become law without his signature letting a budget become law means the money keeps flowing to schools and other state programs. Leaders in both parties say that theyre still committed to working on an agreement to fund the budget in full. Members of new jersey Education Advocacy organizations met this afternoon in trenton to discuss a new School Funding initiative. The plan developed by senator Steve Sweeney calls far a four member panel to establish how much money each School District should receive. Why the shutdown . Reporter well, the shutdown was ordered by l and i and the problem is because of damage to the mural. It will stay that way shut down were told until experts can can get in here and stabilize the mural. Then and only then will they Start Construction again. From a distance its other worldly colors dominate the Curtis Building lobby its win hundred thousand pieces of tiffany glass attract admirers. This is a spectacular visually. Reporter Kevin Sullivan and family visiting from toronto to take in the mural but last week a construction mishap elsewhere in the building caused structural damage that is now covered with special stabilizing material. Its a shame and i guess somebodys going to have a real challenge to try to put that right. Reporter that would be the murals owner the Pennsylvania Academy of fine arts its president says trouble occurred when a piece of concrete nell a stairwell. By dropping that rather than lowering it they caused a trauma which reverberated through the building and that energy was transferred down into the mosaic and caused a structural crack to open up. The borough is just 16 blocks long and five wide. Yet theres an estimated five to 600 cats roaming through neighborhoods and living under the boardwalk. No one wants cats leaving their business on the beach. Reporter officials want the local animal control officer to take over and move the cats to shelters. The group says that wont work. Well, you cant put a feral cat in rescue. Theyre usually not socialized and they cant be adopted so those cats are going to go to a shelter and after a seven day hold theyre euthanized. Reporter a proposed ordinance will require anyone like debbie to get permission from neighbors. Theres only one or two full time residents on this whole block so to get their permission is ridiculous. Reporter the colonies of cats living under the boardwalk right now are already being moved out a big dune project is planned for next year and all of this will be filled with sand.
