Peco crews are on the scene investigating but at this point there is no word on what caused the explosion, that came very close to motorist and passers by. It was kind of scary. No one wanted to turn no one wanted to move. Reporter emergency crews block off 2900 block of Market Street minutes after an explosion under the busy University City intersection. We were on 30th street, turning left on to market, when all of a sudden the road, just exploded. We heard a big boom and looked up and manhole cover was 20 feet in the air. Reporter chunks of concrete rained down, fortunately, missing pedestrians and cars. Blast created a large hole over the spot daniel solace has just passed with his wife. By the grace of god light turned or we had crossed otherwise we would have been standing right on the manhole cover and hurt. Reporter he says passers by ran fearing blast was actually gunfire. Thirtieth street station was briefly evacuated and septa bus lines were rerouted as peco crews responded. Witnesses including these septa cashiers who work underground say the incident could have been far worse. Thank god nobody was hurt, but it is at scary. It is scary that we are underground and this is up top. Reporter peco spokesperson tells me that this is an abandoned manhole meaning there is no equipment in that manhole. So peco crews nonetheless are here on the scene investigating trying to determine exactly what could have caused it then. We do know it was not a transformer because there was no transformer down there. The road here just opened within the past ten minutes. Two Fire Fighters were injured this morning responding to a fire in bensalem. Fire broke out in the home in the 1100 block of tennis avenue at 9 00 oclock this morning. One fire fighter who was a member of the Nottingham Fire Company was on the roof when it gave way. He fell through, and was quickly rushed to aria torresdale but later transferred to jefferson hospital. The other fire fighter was hospitalized after experiencing tightness in his chest. Man was killed and two others injured during a shooting in north philadelphia late last night. It happened on the 3300 block of north 13th street. Police responded to the scene, and found the 18 yearold victim with several gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A short time later two men walk into temple hospital with gunshot wound. They were treated and released. No arrests have been made and no further information has been released about this case. Police in philadelphia were on the scene of the Schuylkill River trail this morning after two separate flashing incidents. One person has been arrested but the other suspect remains on the loose. Reporter walter, police say that the two separate incident happened just minutes apart on different parts of the trail, one man is in custody, and another is still on the loose. It concerns me because it upsets people, you know, as well, if my wife comes home upset because somebody flashed her that is upset to go me. Reporter on the Schuylkill River trail folks are keeping their guard up after two reported cases of indecent exposure. Philadelphia police say the first happened around 7 30. A man on a bike told police he saw a man lying in the middle of the trail exposing himself and engaging in a lewd act. Police say victim called 911 right away and officer found the suspect 34 year old taylor smally. He is charged with indecent expose ire open lewdness and harassment. Shortly thereafter are officers spoke to the woman near i trail near jfk boulevard. Police say around 7 45 a female runner saw a man with his pants down, engaging in a lewd act. Police are still trying to track down that suspect. He is described as a hispanic male in his late 30s or early 40s with a stocky build wearing a gray jacket and a backpack as he fled up the stairs to jfk boulevard. Runners we spoke with say it is a alarming. I mean, overall, in the it i you have to be on your game and worried. I dont think he is going after anybody. I think he was having fun. It is disgusting. Investigators say the driver, 34 yearold christopher gonzales, veered off the road and hit the utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene as well.
