Now and at 11 oclock tonight, my oneonone interview with pennsylvania governor tom wolf. At 11 00 we will delve into the personal side of the governor, subjects you may have never heard before and certainly pictures you have never seen before. But now some issues have governance that are already making headlines. Wolf is infuriated district attorneys like Seth Williams by placing a moratorium on the Death Penalty. At least until a legislative report comes back examining how capitol punishment is implemented in pennsylvania. But for certain people, this is an intensely personal issue what do you say to the families of crime victims who see this as almost an assault on their ability to find closure. Closure is one of the things we dont get with the current system. Its decades in some cases before the appeal process is exhausted. And it seems to me, im not a psychologist, but it seems to me that thats not a really good way to get closure so if its closure that you want beyond how the current Death Penalty system actually gives any victims family that. We need a historic commitment to education and were making it today. Reporter wolf has proposed a massive tax redistribution plan to raise money for schools. Raise income and and sales taxes, Tax Companies that extract natural gas for marcellus shale and lower property taxes. He says this will produce an extra 1 billion for education. But what about that sales tax . It was my impression that during the campaign you said you were against a sales tax increase because you thought it placed an unfair burden on low income citizens. I thought that we ought to be very careful about the sales tax increase because of all the taxes. It has a regressive nature to it but i also heard that a really unfair part of our tax system right now is the way we raise money for public education. Too much of it is rests on the shoulders of property taxpayers. I listened, this is what i heard and i think my overall proposal holistically including a new tax a severance tax which most pennsylvaniaians seem to want i think my proposal overall is something that people of pennsylvania should like. Youre a democratic governor, both houses of the legislature are controlled by republicans and one might suspect that the stage is set for continued gridlock in the commonwealth of pennsylvania. How do you overcome that . I keep saying this. I think people voted for divided government clearly they voted for a democratic governor and Republican Senate and house. But they didnt vote for gridlock. And i dont think people like what they see in washington. I dont think they want that in harrisburg. I dont think any of us in harrisburg want that. I think we all recognize that that is part of whats causing the distrust, just part of it. There are a lot of things but youre right people just dont trust their government. How do you overcome that . Well what can can you do to eliminate that distrust . I think what i can do is behave ethically. And by the way Republican Leaders say wolf its budget and Education Plan isnt going anywhere unless he alliance with their version of pension reform. Thats unlike to happen but thats another story for another time. Well have more at 11 00.
