Reporter somehow the driver escaped from the cab of the tanker. The flames raged for about an hour melting pavement, guardrails burning the nearby hillside and absolutely incinerating the tanker itself. So, i go up to the window and i look and i look across the way and theres like a towering inferno of smoke and everything, so i watched it until they finally evacuated us. Reporter plumes of thick black smoke billowed across the residential streets as neighbors fled from their homes. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for indisclosed injuries. Neighbors say its not the first time a truck has overturned on this ramp. Thats not the first time trucks turn over on that off ramp all the time coming around there. Reporter crews pumped out the remaining 200 gallons of gas left in the tanker after the fire. By 5 oclock with the metal cooled they began to remove the wreckage piece by piece a process expected to take hours now, work is under way to clear the wreckage. Action News Reporter chad pradelli is live at the scene of an attempted murdersuicide. Chad what are the details on this . Reporter jim, the company is called Shields Business Solutions and this attempted murder suicide happened shortly after 7 00 a. M. Moorestown police say Edgar Figueroa pulled out a gun shot his coworker then turned the gun on himself. If not for a split seconds decision Melvin Nieves may be dead. Instead hes at cooper hospital where he was flown after the workplace shooting. Police say just after 7 00 a. M. Nieves and Edgar Figueroa were getting ready to begin their shift at Shields Business Solutions when figueroa opened fire on his coworker striking himself times. Were being told by witnesses that mr. Figueroa came up behind him as they were leaving the building and actually tried to shoot him in the head and he jerked and that bullet grazed him. Reporter figueroa followed and killed himself in the rear of the property. Sources say the shooting was the result of a love triangle. Shields Business Solutions provides atm and armored car services. The Company Released a statement that reads in part an unspeakable tragedy unfolded here this morning and first and foremost we would like the families of those involved to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them. Police sane nieves was not armed when figueroa allegedly shot him. The company says it has provide add grief counselor for employees. Police say many of the Security Officers at shields supply their own personal weapons for protection on the job but what sort of background check is conducted is unclear. Right now you factor in the winds. The wind chill makes it feel like nine in philadelphia, feels like five in trenton three in reading. The wind chill has already dropped down to 1 degree below zero in allentown and seven below in the poconos and we will have the winds with us through the evening. So, if youre heading out tonight, you definitely do want to bundle up between about 7 oclock and 1 oclock in the morning the wind chill around philadelphia and areas to the south down to zero to 5 degrees below zero. John, youve got the full story. Reporter jim, this started about 3 oclock this morning. Two crime scenes, three or 4 miles apart. And a Police Pursuit for at least some of that distance. The police chase ended with the suspects black suv pinned against a fence in a snow bank. Police say the driver Jerome Nichols ran. The officer attempted to take him into custody and he fled. The officers pursued. Pd deployed a taser without effect. Reporter dash cam video caught the suspect attacking a officer with a kitchen knife. Its pretty clear to me that the officer was under attack with a large knife. He was stabbed multiple times. Certainly under those circumstances the force that was utilize is there in my opinion justifiable. Reporter the stabbed observe, a five year veteran was hospitalized with wounds to his shoulder. He had some surgery to control some bleeding but he is i spoke with him afterwards. I was at his room and hes in good spirits. Reporter minutes before the Police Confrontation its believed nichols entered this twin home miles away and established his former girlfriend. Neighbor Jennifer Brown lives next door. I heard a lot of screaming help me, help me, some banging on the floor. So, i instantly went over to the wall and banged on the wall and said im calling 911. Reporter brown went outside the victim had pushed out this screen and was shouting for help from an upper window. She had said that he was in the house and that he had stabbed her. Reporter by then nichols had fled the house and that set up for the confrontation with the police.
