For 50 years. Reporter police say the 17yearold driver turned himself in. Hes been charged as a juvenile. The 15yearold is fine and was practicing with his sports team. He went to practice the next day and the he was worried that he was in trouble. I dont know how you worry about that getting run over but hes a good boy. Reporter well, again that 15yearold not seriously injured. When we spoke with him briefly today he was preparing to go to his lacrosse practice this evening. The 17yearold driver turned himself in the next day. He is facing various assault related charges as a juvenile. Live in ridley township, john rawlins channel6 action news. Thank you john. President trumps soninlaw Jared Kushner appeared on capitol hill today as part of that ongoing russia investigation. Kushner spent more than two and a half hours meeting with the Senate Intelligence committee about the trump campaigns contacts with russian nationals. And tomorrow kushner will have a similar conversation with house lawmakers. Well have more on what kushner had to say and its impact on the russia investigation coming up at 5 30. In texas, 10 people are dead in a case of human smuggling busted yesterday. Officials say people were found in a tractortrailer in a walmart parking lot in san antonio. The driver of the truck, 60yearold james bradley, appeared in court today. He said he did not know what was in the trailer. Officials said the conditions in that trailer were disturbing to say the least. These people were in that trailer without any signs of any type of water so youre looking at a a lot of heat stroke, a lot of dehydration. Reporter one person on board told investigators the people inside took turns breathing from a hole punched in the trailers wall to provide ventilation. Bradley, the driver, could face life in prison or even the death penalty. A new jersey family is recovering tonight after they found themselves just feet from a towering water spout during yesterdays storms. Roxanne yates of franklinville was in a canoe with her daughter and boyfriend near downtown ship yesterday when the water spout suddenly came right towards them. Using the emergency button on her phone she called for help. The ping in her cell phone was able to give us a gps coordinate and sent us a map where they were the last time they called. Rescuers were able to spot them because 93 put a lifeguard jacket on top of a paddle. No one in the canoe fortunately was seriously hurt. Yesterdays storms packed quite a punch inland. Parts of the Delaware Valley still cleaning up after the system swept through. Looking live right now today was a quieter day weatherwise but we are still tracking the potential for another spotty storm tonight. Double scan live showing that there is a broken line of some strong thunderstorms rolling in from the west. This is all ahead of a cold front and some of that has been severe, actually there was a Tornado Warning for the Wilkesbarre Scranton area that just expired at 5 oclock. A lot of that will be pushing up to the north, will be clipping the Lehigh Valley but the whole system is moving east at about 20 Miles Per Hour. So, future tracker showing this is likely will be rolling right into the philadelphia area crossing into south jersey around 9 oclock tonight and its one of those situations not everyone will get the storms but those who did expect some isolated severe winds, some brief but heavy rain and then behind this system, temperatures really fall. Nick foles was brought in as the backup quarterback. Back in 2013 in his first stint with the birds, foles tossed 27 touchdowns against just two interceptions. Because hes been there before, foles will be a guy wentz can lean on throughout this season. Basically i can relate to what its like being a starting quarterback in this city which is so unique and that was one of the things that intrigued me about coming back here is that its such an amazing place to play stepping into the linc and i told you over and over again just the experience is just amazing and so we dont really talk about it too much yet because the season is gone but he does a great job of handling everything going in his second year, really impressive. Hes got the right personality, the right demeanor for carson. Hes a teacher, hes a leader on the field that way. Hes a great example for carson to look to for a lot of answers. Kelley hodge was elected last week by city judges to serve out the rest of Seth Williams second term and shes making history as the first africanamerican woman to serve as the citys top prosecutor. For the time i have to lead this office i will promote and encourage the honor integrity and professionalism that is expected and that exists in each of you. If youre coming eastbound coming in toward the city, towards the phils game i would use the river drive not the eastbound side of the schuylkill. In Chester County watching a serious wreck along 252. Thats darby paoli road close to sugartown road. Some speeds like 13 Miles Per Hour on the westbound side of the 30 bypass even though that crash near 282 is long gone. Getting reports of a wreck now on the westbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike past downingtown but speeds there dont look too bad. At least not yet. Out in West Norriton a vehicle doesnt want to run along trooper road near norris hall road near the Greek Orthodox church. A lane is out of commission there. 422 westbound just 9 Miles Per Hour is because of this crash approaching oaks taking out the left lane. Ambulance on the scene. There is promising news in the fight against aids. A South African girl born hiv positive has now been virus free for more than eight years and without medication. Health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman with more on this incredible story. Ali. Researchers have been testing whether giving aggressive treatment early on can keep the virus at bay long term, even after the medication is stopped. This is the third time that its worked for a child. The girl started hiv medication when she was just two months old and stayed on it for 40 weeks. Shes now nine years old and there has been no sign of active virus in her blood for more than eight years after stopping medication. Researchers hope to figure out how the child stayed in remission so they can develop new treatments or a vaccine. Theres a new concern about dietary supplements. A new study shows a number of calls to Poison Control Centers because of the supplements has skyrocketed. 70 percent of those calls involve children under the age six who have accidentally ingested the supplement. Most did not suffer serious effects but some supplements can lead to heart problems or kidney failure. Most bottles are not child proof and theyre also not strictly regulated by the fda. Head over to the Weather Center and show that you double scan live is showing a pretty strong line of storms approaching from the west. And what this is, its a k its the dividing line between air masses. Right now the heat wave is over but we still have a warm and muggy air mass over us. Once that cold front moves through, what that does, it brings cooler less humid air on the way and you will feel the difference in the air mass right away. Basically temperatures will be holding into the 80s until that front moves through around 9 oclock and then dropping into the 70s and early tomorrow morning temperatures into the 60s and much lower humidity. So, it will pay off but first we have to get through the storms. And this is the first cell thats moving in and this will be hitting the Lehigh Valley. This has 50 miles an hour winds, also the threat of some hail. Its moving to the southeast about 25 Miles Per Hour so lynn port new tripoli signs corner schnecksville and fogelsville all in the path of this storm. That could cause some damage with the potential for gusty winds. The chance for severe storms looks like the best chance will be philadelphia areas south and areas to the west. Were looking at the possibility of some isolated storms, severe storms. Not everyone will get the damaging winds but well all feel the change in the air mass. So, future tracker timing out the storms, around 7 oclock hitting the Lehigh Valley, some storms generally west of philadelphia. Looks like it moves through philadelphia into south jersey around 9 oclock and should be rolling off the coast shortly after midnight. By 1 oclock, the storms are over. Theyre quick hitting storms. Tomorrow morning you wake up lots of clouds but by the afternoon sunshine is back and its going to feel pretty nice. Temperatures running about 6 degrees below normal. Philadelphia 81 degrees tomorrow, millville, wilmington the same. The boardwalk in Atlantic City only 78 and northwest suburbs temperatures only in the upper 70s with lower humidity. So far Senate Republicans have not done their job in ending the obamacare nightmare. They now have a chance, however, to hopefully, hopefully fix what has been so badly broken for such a long time. Tomorrow the senate will likely take a procedural vote on a bill that passed the house earlier this year. Then they can debate the bill and offer amendments. Pal senator pat toomey helped draft the Senate Healthcare bill that was aimed at repealing the Affordable Care act. He spoke today in west chester with local business leaders. Toomey says he wants a Healthcare Plan that creates an alternative marketplace. One that i hope will be much more driven by consumers and much less driven by a federal bureaucracy, one that will repeal most of the big mandates, most of the taxes of obamacare and that will put medicaid on a sustainable path for the First Time Since the program was launched. Senator toomey says insurance premiums are up almost 130 percent in pennsylvania just since 2013. For their part democrats turned their attention to the economy today. Unveiling a platform that included plans to address rising prescription costs and stagnant wages. New york senator Chuck Schumer led the event and massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren also took part. Among the proposals new standards for big businesses before they complete larger mergers. It called for a crackdown on pharmaceutical companies that raise prices excessively. Theyre hoping to put forth a cohesive message ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Charlie suffers from a rare mitochondrial can disease for which there is no cure and causes muscle weakness and irreversible brain damage. A squirrel believed to have bitten at least five people, one victim says it happened while he was feeding the animal but another family says the squirrel bit their daughter in an unprovoked attack. Good news for folks in a illinois town that was hit hard by flooding, the fox river in algonquin is receding. Residents have been dealing with this for two weeks. Speeds like 11 Miles Per Hour with in left lane being blocked because of the crash. If you can get to the river drives, thats going to be the way to go as you head in towards center city maybe in towards the phils game tonight. Had a crash on the roosevelt boulevard southbound at whitaker but sounds like thats in the process of hearing. Our disabled vehicle in West Norriton along trooper road has also cleared out of the way but trooper is still busy as people avoid 422 westbound. That crash approaching oaks is off to the side now so ever so slowly were starting to pick up that very slow pace on 422 westbound. Watching a situation as well here in Chester County its a crash along 252 near sugartown road. Sounds like a serious one so emergency crews are on the scene there. And you dont want to be anywhere near the garden state parkway northbound in Egg Harbor Township this afternoon. Nasty crash in the northbound lanes approaching route 30 pomona has those northbound lanes blocked. Its jammed coming away from the a. C. Expressway. Stay over on route nine, not the parkway if youre near the shore this afternoon. Closer to the coast theres a wreck along brigantine boulevard on the ac brigantine connector. A large portion of an Apartment Building in the citys parkside section had to be evacuated late last night after a fire broke out on the fourth floor. The blaze started at about 11 30 p. M. Here on the 1600 block of north 52nd street. Firefighters traced the blaze to a mechanical room. Luckily no one was hurt. The red cross is helping residents whose apartments were affected by the smoke. In parkside an Armed Robbery at a Family Dollar store caught on camera. Happened back on july 16th at the store on the 5600 block of lancaster avenue. Police say the male suspect pretended to make a purchase. Thats when he pulled out a gun. The man got away with more than a hundred dollars and several cartons of cigarettes. The worker was not hurt. Anyone with information is asked to call philadelphia police. Both entering their Second Season with the birds. Fans are looking for both to get better in year two. Coach pederson says hes already deal ticketed a change in his franchise qb. As he comes into this camp hes refreshed, hes rejuvenated eager ready to go. Hes got the best thing i think that that he and i going into year two is that he played 16 games last year and thats the exciting thing about it. Hes a year a year experienced now in this league. Hes the leader of the Football Team. Theres no doubt about it in our eyes. Hes not going to have carry the team but hes going to be the focal point of the offensive in particular.
