Why there was no Police Security in this school at all when my grandson was threatened yesterday with a gun. Reporter the School District says the police were unaware that the principal told parents they would see extra protection this morning. An officer was stationed here at dismissal time. School principal david laver had no comments. Parents say gun or no gun the kids need more police protection. There arent Police Officers. They say theres no funding for public school. As a parent we do need security. Reporter parents what about the more police but they also say theres never been any trouble at this school. Philadelphia police have not filed any charges in this case but they say they are still investigating. Live in north philadelphia, david henry, channel6 action news. Rick. All right, david, thank you. Students turned out by the hundreds at Villanova University to protest the schools decision to add armed officers to the Campus Security force. Villanovas new plan calls for nearly a third of the universitys Public Safety department to enroll in a Police Academy and then carry a gun. But students say the move is a bad fit for their school and they say theyre concerned about how the decision was made. Action News Reporter john rawlins was on campus today and hell have much more from villanova coming up tonight at 6 00. Police in bensalem are looking for the man who robbed a gnc store at gun point. This is a surveillance picture of the suspect coming up right there. Police say he walked into the store on street road last night just before 9 30. He pulled a gun and demand the cash from the register, then he grabbed it and ran off. Police are asking anyone who recognizes him to call them immediatelily. Right now Hurricane Patricia is barreling towards mexicos South Western Pacific coast as a very dangerous category five. Now, this is a satellite image of the huge storm. Its packing extremely high winds and is said to pose a triple threat when it comes to shore in mexico. Lets go over to meteorologist cecily tynan at the action news big board with the latest on pat trish shaft cecily. Monica, part of the problem with this storm system very little lead time. I talked about this storm last night at 11 00. Yesterday morning it was just a tropical storm. By 11 oclock last night it was a category five hurricane and earlier today maximum sustained winds hit 200 Miles Per Hour. Thats the strongest ever recorded on the planet with any tropical system, stronger than katrina, stronger than camille, stronger than andrew. Now, as we zoom in the maximum sustained winds have decreased to 190 Miles Per Hour. The reason why, this is really beginning to interact with land and you can see how the eye wall is beginning to collapse a little bit as it is encountering the friction but it is coming ashore as a category five hurricane with winds almost equivalent to an e philadelphia. Four tornado. It will b ef4 tornade coit wt ripped apart by the mountains of mexico as it moves inland. The problem, though, right along the coast, its moving inland very close to manzanillo and Puerta Vallarta, big resort towns. Were looking at wave heights 30 to 40 feet, the storm surge up to 20 feet. Thats like a tsunami coming ashore. Thats going to cause lots of problems along the coast as it continues to move inland although the mountains will rip app parter the winds, the moisture will actually intensify. Looking at about 5inches along the coast but this storm system likely will kind of reenergize as it gets closer to texas and were looking at Corpus Christi to houston more than 7inches of rain through sunday. That will likely cause a lot of flash flooding and we actually could get some of rain later on next week. Ill talk more about that coming up in the full accuweather 7day forecast. Monica. The temple owls are still undefeat and this campus is already looking ahead to next week when the fighting irish come to town. The campus is abuzz with excitement. The Temple Football Team is seven and oh for the First Time Ever in the schools history. Theyre red hot just like the cherry red of Temple University, t for temple u. Theyre proving theirself a very good Football Team. Last year we were good but we werent this good. Its like we became unstoppable. Reporter last night in North Carolina temple came back with two touchdowns in the Fourth Quarter to beat east carolina. Fans say they appreciate these wins even more because they remember watching the Team Struggle not that long ago. My freshman year it was wonderful two and 10, awesome. I was in the marching band, too. I had to sit through all those home games. Reporter the fighting irish of notre dame at the linc in prime time. Coach rhule says they are sticking to the same game plan for this game as all the others. Enjoy it, take a minute let it sink in and then focus on the only thing you can control which is playing well and weve done it so i feel like well be able to do it next week. That crash is now gone so both lanes opened headed toward the vine but your speeds are still in the teens. On the big picture we had earlier accidents in West Philadelphia at 46th and lancaster and kingsessing 4,544th and chester. Those crashes are gone so the trolleys luckily are back to normal. And one of our two crashes on the pennsylvania turnpike is gone, one still there but moved to the shoulder. So youre looking at speeds in the 20s basically between valley forge and norristown. An overturned vehicle crash along monroe boulevard at madison avenue just around the corner in West Norriton trooper road northbound has a crash ativan buren avenue. French Officials Say its too early to tell what caused a deadly crash between a truck an bus full of tourists. The fiery crash happened this morning in frances wine region about 350 miles southwest of paris. 43 people were killed including the truck driver and his little threeyearold son. Four others were badly injured. Eight people escaped from the crash. French officials said it is the countrys deadliest Road Accident in more than 30 years. Public schools in one connecticut town were dismissed early today after a series of phoned in threats. Police said those threats were called into three separate schools. One threat referred to a man with a gun. Other two referred to bombs planted in school buildings. The threats prompted a lockdown of all 17 buildings in the School District. Officials said inspections turned up no credible evidence of a threat. But classes were canceled just as a precaution. All eyes on Hurricane Patricia as the monster hurricane pushes towards the western coast of mexico right into the path of resident and vacationers. A berks county fire is behind bars for allegedly pushing his young son to fight a fellow student but thats not all hes accused of doing. And a south Jersey High School is warning parents and students to keep their eyes sharp after bed bugs showed up on campus. Now the details. Parts of western mexico including several resorts towns are preparing for what could be a catastrophic hit from a very powerful Hurricane Patricia. A category five packing winds of 200 miles an hour. Resident and tourists are hunkering down for what may be ahead. The u. S. State department has told all americans in that region to shelterinplace. And Puerta Vallarta destination for tourist and a popular port of call for cruise ships one of the many communities in the path of the hurricane. Officials activated warning sirens to alert folks now is the time to prepare and authorities drove through outlying communities and used a mega phone to warn people. Flights have been suspended and shelters set up in hotels for folks who cannot get out. They were found in a classroom and now parents are being told to keep a watch out for the pesky insects. Action News Reporter Trish Hartman is live outside of Deptford Township high school with more. Trish. Rick, parents are being urged to contact a pet control company if they find any bed bugs at home after the tiny insects were found here at deptford high school. They spread like wildfire. Then you got throw everything out. Reporter parents and guardians say lots of laundry will be done this weekend after bed bugs were discovered at deptford high school. The emergency Pesticide Use notice posted other web site said bed bugs were found fully end gourds on student. Parents say they were notified by phone and email thursday. Were you concerned about sending her here today. Reporter no, no, the school said that everything was taken care of so we were all right with that. The school says extermination started wednesday and will continue into next week. While documents on the schools web site say the pesticide can be harmful if inhaled swallowed or touched, it also says the pesticides are being applied after hours. Stephanie smith who works for a Pest Control Company says if the exterminations happening after hours, theres no need to worry. As long as, you know, they happy with the schools response. Philadelphia police are asking for the publics help identifying two men who broke into a home in olney earlier this morning. This is Surveillance Video from a house along the 900 block of godfrey avenue. One of the suspects checks to see if someone was home. When the coast was clear, the second suspect broke in through a back window, then unlocked the front door. The thieves left way flat screen tv. Still not clear if they took anything else but if you recognize them youre asked to contact the authorities. Three cherry Hill Brothers serving life sentences for planning terrorist attacks against military bases will be allowed to return to new jersey for their appeals. A u. S. District judge has ruled they have a right to appear in court for legal proceedings. The three were convicted in 2008 for plotting against military personnel at fort dix and other facilities. Theyre serving time in separate federal prisons outside of the state. The men argued that their defense lawyers violated their constitutional rights. Senior centers in philadelphia may soon be forced to stop serving meals if pennsylvania does not adopt a state budget soon. That warning today from the Philadelphia Corporation for aging. Officials held a press conference to draw attention to how the states budget impasse is affecting their services because there is no budget ppa was forced to take a loan in july to keep going but that money ran out in september. Thousands of gallons flooded the street forcing it to shut down for hours. There was so much water it took workers nearly all morning to find the right valve to shut off. Around noontime they finally did. Police in florida are still trying to figure out what led up to a deadly encounter between a Police Officer an church drummer named corey jones. Happened early sunday morning. Police say the officer was investigating a car on the side of the road when he was confronted by an armed man. Well according to jones family he was waiting for a tow truck after his car broke down. They said he had a licensed gun but never fired it. There is no dash cam or body cam video so experts say ballistics evidence will be crucial in the case. Where was he shot . Does he does it seem he was running away . Was his gun truly not found anywhere near his body . Was the Police Officer chasing him . I mean, those are going to be the sorts of things that ballistics will be able to tell us a lot about. The officer was in plainclothes at the time driving in an unmarked van. The victims family said they were told by prosecutors the officer never identified himself. There are also they were also told the officer fired his gun six times. Well, that officer is now on paid leave. A new drug company is teaching a lesson to a competitor after a 5,000 percent price hike on an aids drug. They will now start selling a generic version of the drug for one dollar. They raised the price up to 750 per pill. That move led to outrage on social media and in the medical community. So now another Pharmaceutical Company will sell 100 pills for 99 bucks. Students and members of the faculty marched in silence today to protest against the universitys plans to have armed police on campus.
