Agents went to a home on highland avenue to serve a child pornography warrant when the man inside pulled a gun. Now, there were shots exchanged. The man was killed. Agents have been on the scene collecting evidence from that house all day. The fbi says a team from washington, d. C. Does investigate agentinvolved shootings and that review could take several months. Now to the latest on the upcoming visit of pope francis. As we get closer to his arrival, the anxiety is building for several City Residents who are still trying to figure out what theyll do with their vehicles so it doesnt get towed. Yeah, were just going have to wing it. Reporter the cars parked on these streets in Spring Garden will have to be off the street by 9 00 a. M. Monday the 21st. Thats when the city starts together. Violators will get a 76 ticket and will have to pay another 175 for the tow. We think its a terrible inconvenience. Its not fair. Reporter workers have begun laying the groundwork for the altar in the front of the Washington Statue on eakins oval. The city says it needs the cars off the streets five days before the pope gets here to start setting up the security perimeter. The neighborhoods are tightly packed with row homes and parking is at a premium all year. Residents dont know where theyll go. My office is closed. Theyre closing a little bit early on thursday night and actually closed on friday so im hoping to come home a little bit early on thursday and find parking i guess a little bit north of where we are. Reporter the city is offering alternatives. The Parking Authority is opening 2,000 spaces in six lots and garages like this one at 16th and vine but its eight to 12 blocks from the homes in the security zone and residents will have to pay 20 for the weekend or theres free parking for 1500 cards at the Naval Hospital in south philadelphia. It wouldnt be inconvenient. Our daughter has to be taken to school and to work. So reporter those garages are too far away. Well theres one in south philadelphia. Thats ridiculous. Reporter if residents choose the garages theyll have to go to the Parking Authority Customer Service center on this eighth street to pick up a placard. That placard railroad allow them to stay parked until 10 00 p. M. Thursday instead of moving out tuesday morning. Vince thompson runs a plumbing business out of his home and says it will be a real hardship for him. I thought that i could at least, you know, maintain my business until thursday by parking on the street and now i have to move out sunday so ill actually lose a whole week of work. The Parking Authority has just now informed us that if you already have a Residential Permit for parking in your neighborhood, they will waive that 20 fee for parking in the garages over the papal weekend. All across the country americans paused today to mark 14 years since the attacks of september 11th. Once again, relatives of 9 11 victims and others gathered at ground zero in new york to mark the anniversary. There were moments of silence to mark the times that those two planes hit the twin towers. Many flags and flowers decorated the sites reflecting pools that are surrounded by the victims names. President barack obama and the first lady stepped out of the white house this morning to observe a moment of silence for the victims as well. American Airlines Flight 77 was flying from washington to los angeles when it was highjacked and flown into the pentagon on september 11th 2001. And in shanksville, pennsylvania, the names of passengers and crew killed in the highjacking of united flight 93 he were read. Hundreds gathered here for a ceremony to honor those 33 lives lost. September 11th also weighed heavily on the hearts and minds of people in delaware county. County officials held their annual Memorial Service at Rose Tree Park in media this morning. Pennsylvania senator pat toomey was on hand to speak. Wreaths were laid during the ceremony, one each at the parks Law Enforcement memorial and the parks firefighter and ems memorials. A third wreath honored the victims of september 11th and the men and women who have died fighting the war on terror since the attacks. And they gathered to remember here in northeast philadelphia today. Local members of the military, police, Fire Departments and many others took part in a ceremony outside of the Mission Barbecue restaurant. As a way to say thanks to those who serve, all First Responders were given a free sandwich today. In other news, when pope francis comes to philadelphia in a few weeks, hell be greeted in many different ways including by a special choir. Its its chosen members are from across the area and they are now into serious reelers sarehearsaltime. New jerseys correspondent Nora Muchanic caught up with the singers from Mercer County. Reporter their voices are beautiful so good in fact that these four members from saint gregory the church in Hamilton Township have been selected to sing in the papal choir during the popes visit. I didnt sleep for three days. I think this pope really has special gifts and i think it really adds to the excitement of it is that were getting to sing for pope francis. Reporter susie is a cant tore at saint gregorys. Her husband john is the director of sacred music and he too is delighted to be singing for the holy father. I dont think its nervous. Its a joyous adventure or really the rehearsals have been really wonderful. Reporter the four singers from saint gregorys have been rehearsing every monday night with the full papal choir and say the pace is demanding. The choir is learning 20 songs, some are in different languages, some have never been heard before. Particularly excited that we have a couple of pieces that were composed especially for the event so we get to have that honor premiering those pieces. Witnesses said a plan and a woman were both handcuffed. According to police, the man is of interest to investigators. 11 cars have been shot along the roadway in the past two weeks. No one has been seriously injured. Baltimores mayor announced today that she will not seek reelection. Stephanie rawlingsblake says she thinks she could have won another term but there not running is the best decision. Many have scrutinized way she handled the unrest that turned into riots after freddie grays death. Gray died from spinal injuries while in Police Custody back in april. This news comes just days after the city settled a civil lawsuit awarding grays family more than 6 million. Health check tonight. If you have high Blood Pressure, your treatment could be changing soon. Government Health Officials released early results from a study they did that shows more aggressive treatment of high Blood Pressure could save thousands of lives. Health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us from the big board with what people need to know. Ali. This is significant. They stopped the Clinical Trial early because they were seeing such strong results. Now, the basic goal was to answer this question, how low he should Blood Pressure go. I spoke with a local doctor involved with the study today. Dr. Crystal was the Principal Investigator at the Temple University hospital for the sprint trial. Temple along with 100 other centers followed more than 9,000 adults over aged 50 at risk for heart disease. For some the goal was to keep the systolic or top number of their Blood Pressure below 140. Thats the current guideline. But the target for the other more Aggressive Group was to keep that number under 120. The doctor says the results show overall the Aggressive Group was found to have a 30 percent lower risk for heart problems. And a 25 percent lower risk for death. For disease that affects one in three people, hypertension, this is a major, major finding. Reporter but there are still questions. Such aside effects from medication and will the benefits of aggressive treatment outweigh the risks. So far overall the answer seems to be yes. But because the study was stopped early, the final comprehensive report looking at all subgroups such as the elderly or people with Kidney Disease isnt out yet. Researchers say for now, well have to wait but if you have high Blood Pressure, you should Start Talking about possible changes with your healthcare provider. Because when it comes down to it the physician is going have to look at the individual patient and make a decision but this certainly is a step forward in understanding how to manage Blood Pressure. Reporter now, some cardiologists say that these results shouldnt have been released because the study hasnt been reviewed by peers yet but researchers with the trials say it wouldnt be ethical to sit on the results after seeing this treatment could potentially save lives. Chopper six was over the scene near the intersection of morton and Fourth Streets in chester. That officer was taken to crozer hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises. Police are looking for the suspects vehicle. It is described as a late 90s or early 2000 burgundy pontiac with a green trunk and hood. And well continue to follow this story. An action news viewer says he caught a mailman making a massive delivery somewhere other than to the appropriate mailboxes. And he has the pictures to prove it. Investigative reporter wendy salts plasaltzman has the story. Reporter Brian Mcloughlin came upon this mailman who he saw which you canning other peoples property into the trash. I saw the post office truck here and he was getting happened fulls of mail throwing them into the dumpster by piles at a time. Reporter ryan says it was an odd day last friday when going into the Labor Day Weekend he got home early at 5 45 and saw something that just didnt seem right. So i came around and parked and came back and got a picture and when he pulled off i took a picture of the trash and there was legitimate actual mail with names and addresses on it from different banks and stores. Reporter he snapped a shot and tweeted action news. The u. S. Postal service and posted pictures on main line alert that he says showed not just advertisements but actual mail, bills and catalogs. He was just chucking piles of massive mail into the trash. Reporter all mcloughlin could guess is that the delivery man wanted to it his shift short but his deliveries were still not done. From that amount of stuff in there i assume it takes him a good amount of time to do it. Reporter mcloughlin questions how many times this has happened in the past. Neighbor tell us theres a bank letter in there, theres one catalog somebodys ordered that was in there and then weve will stuff not show up in the past from pnc bank, from other institutions. The Postal Service says the majority of their 500,000 employees nationwide are dedicated but in this case where one of them betrayed the public trust he threw a way not only the mail, he also threw away his career. In radnor township, im wendy saltzman, channel6 action news. Former youth football coach will spend the rest of his life in prison for sexually assaulting several children in north philadelphia. Today a judge sentence lee he onwatson to 114 to 228 years behind bars. Prosecutors said he met his victims while coaching for two teams. He was convicted of molesting five young boys along with a 21yearold mentally disabled person. Philadelphia police asking for your help to grabbed another man walking down the street in East Oak Lane and forced him to give up his money. It happened wednesday night about 7 00 p. M. This is Surveillance Video from inside a store at fifth and oak lane. Well, before this was taken the suspects pulled a gun on the victim and robbed him. They forced him to go into the store and withdraw 120 and it didnt stop there. The suspects then took the victim back to his house and grabbed his laptop and two bicycles before taking off. Fortunately the man was not hurt. At the action news big board this friday, we are just 14 days away from the highly anticipated visit from pope francis for the world meeting of families. The free tickets to the several papal events were claimed almost instantly but now those same tickets are popping up for sale. A quick search on craigslist reveals post after post of people selling tickets to papal events that are meant to be free. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams says it is illegal for individuals to scalp tickets. He says only licensed ticketing agencies will ensure that the tickets are valid and will issue a refund if the event is canceled. Want to protect buyers. Just be sure you go to a credible web site and you purchase your tickets from places that will protect you. The archdiocese issued the following statement on the matter. It reads in part papal tickets are never intended to be sold. When we became aware, we reported the matter to local Law Enforcement. We also reached out to ebay and craigslist asking there any sales be halted. We are delighted to see that ebay has halted sale of these tickets. Scalping of tickets for papal events is shameful and reprehensible. Organizers add that there will still be plenty of chances to see the pope without a ticket to an event with dozens of jumbo screens placed along the Festival Grounds and of course the papal parades are set for saturday and sunday. Today mayor Michael Nutter announced that there are Hotel Rooms Still Available and at competitive prices. Many are also offering socalled pope packages that include goody bags and souvenirs. When asked if the city had overestimated the demand, mayor Michael Nutter said people are still making plans. The executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association agrees. People are just going to show up so we didnt really know what to expect. However, i will say that were very excited, were seeing were seeing people book rooms, were seeing people make their plans. The folks at septa have done a phenomenal job of make, the city very accessible so were really looking forward to the weekend. Reporter officials added that folks who Book Hotel Rooms may find they have an even Better Vantage Point to all of the papal festivities. Officials in delaware laid out new plans to keep folks moving through wilmington the weekend that pope francis is in town. Both amtrak and septa run from wilmington to 30th street station in philadelphia. Septa has sold 5,000 tickets for the wilmingtonnewark line that weekend. Amtrak is leasing computer commuter trains to keep up with the demand and are calling in extra help in case anything goes wrong. Extra staffing coming in so in the event we have some type of problem well have some Quick Response times to keep everybody moving to get them to the events on time. Delaware officials said 5800 parking spots will also be available around the wilmington station but not all the parking is free. They also encouraged folks to carpool to keep traffic problems around the train station to a minimum. [bell tolls] family and Community Members gathered for a service this morning at the garden of reflection in lower makefield township. The program included honorary poems and songs. They also read the names of the 18 victims who were from bucks county. Later tonight at around 7 15 there will be a reflective prayer for anyone who would like to attend. Mercer county community 11 held its annual ceremony of remembrance of september 11th. A number of county executives attended here at the west windsor campus. They placed a wreath on the colleges memorial bench. And the action cam was also there as a number of First Responders participated in Hamilton Townships annual remembrance ceremony. The program was held at the september 11th memorial grove. The grove area is home to a steel beam from the World Trade Center ground zero. Theres also a firefighter monument there and a memorial for hamilton residents who lost their lives in the terror attack. And flags across the country he are flying at halfstaff today thanks to a special proclamation from president obama. The flags were lowered in honor of patriot day which is the official name for september 11th each year. These were flying over center city philadelphia. The president also asked everyone to participate in Community Service today in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the 2001 attacks. Happened wednesday night as blake was waiting outside of a luxury hotel for his ride to the u. S. Open when all of a sudden a plainclothes officer rushed up to him and tackled him right there. The officer then threw james to the ground held him down and put handcuffs on him. According to officials detectives were investigating a credit card fraud ring in the area and blake apparently looked like one of the suspects. Well, the nypd apologized to blake and the arresting officer is on desk duty pending the outcome of an investigation. This was the scene late today at morton and fourth. This is where a motorcycle cop was struck by a car and the Police Officer is now in the hospital. The search for the driver is now on.
