Health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman is at the big board to break it down for parents. Ali. Hey guys. Some of this is pretty surprising. Researchers at the cdc analyzed more than a thousand prepackaged foods for infants and toddlers. What they found was 72 percent of the toddler meals had an average of 361 milligrams of sodium. Thats clearly over the recommended amount which is 210 milligrams per serving. The good news is that most infant food was low in sodium. But when it comes to sugar many of the snacks and dinners contained at least one added sugar. Researchers say having foods high in salt and sugar at a young age can lead to developing a preference for them later in life. And that could raise the risk for obesity diabetes and heart disease. So, for parents it is best to read the label and look for foods lower in added sugar and sodium. Im cognize sants of the fact that it requires a loot more work. Meteorologist cecily tynan has the forecast details including the five day at 5 00 when we come right back. Pennsylvania famous ground hog Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter. Yes, sorry monica. German legend says if he sees his shadow on february seconds winter will last another six weeks. If not spring comes early. Because of todays gray skies phils prediction was decide ahead of time by the group on gobblers knob. Why do you do it ahead of time. I never remember him not predicting six more weeks of winter. That would be a shock. Lets see what cecily is predicting. Time for accuweather with our resident meteorologist cecily tynan. Did you see your shadow. I went right back into my home this morning, buried myself. Didnt want to get outside because it was nasty, we had the rain and slush and Storm Tracker 6 live double scan showing that we still have a few lingering snow showers. Burlington county into ocean county now you can see this batch of some snow showers working just to the south of route 72 chatsworth. Its heading towards the garden state parkway. This is the same area that got some of the back end snow between 3 oclock and 4 oclock this afternoon as the storm system was pulling out and the cold air was catching up to the moisture. So adam posted this on my Facebook Page from toms river and you can see the snow really coating the trees falling down pretty heavily this afternoon and now the problem is the falling temperatures with the winds. The winds are howling gusting to 41 miles an hour out of the northwest and philadelphia and reading, 38 in allentown 43 miles an hour wind gusts in the poconos and 37 miles an hour wind gusts in millville and what these winds are doing is pulling down some very cold air. The winds will be with us right through the evening hours. So, the National Weather service has posted a wind advisory for the southern half of our viewing area until midnight for wind gusts up to 45 Miles Per Hour. The good news is about the winds the winds will be drying off a lot of roads. The problem with the wind, though, is that its making it feel very cold and it is creating those wind chill factors. Feels like 23 degrees in philadelphia, 19 in wilmington, 12 in reading. The wind chill in allentown is four and the wind chill in the poconos 2 degrees below zero and its going to be a cold night and a very cold day tomorrow. So, satellite6 along with action radar showing that low pressure that brought us the rain and the snow, little less than an inch of snow in philadelphia, up to 8inchs in parts of northern northampton county. Thats moving away from us. Now we have High Pressure thats right over saint louis. So, this is whats creating that wind tunnel effect out of the northwest. That High Pressure, though, will be building over us tomorrow and that will bring us a lot of sunshine but it will be brutally cold. So, future tracker showing the wind chill as we head through the overnight hours early tomorrow morning at 6 30 generally in the single digits. Winds will be easing in the afternoon but afternoon highs stuck in the upper 20s. So, wind chills in the afternoon will be in the teens and low 20s and temperatures will remain below freezing. So, you really have to be careful for the icy spots tonight and really through the day tomorrow. So, the five day at 5 00 showing tomorrow brisk and colder, the high only 28 degrees. We have a nice recovery on wednesday. We bump it up to 46 degrees. On thursday drop down to 36 with the possibility of some snow and then behind that system on friday, cold again 26 degrees. On saturday we bump it up to 38 degrees and sunday a possibility of rain or snow. Adam will talk about that coming up in the accuweather 7day forecast. Dont blame adam, dont blame me blame the grounds hog. Its phils fault. Punxsutawney phil. Is he on twitter . Im not sure. Facebook. Much more to come on the next half hour of action news at 5 00 a grandmother on the way to work in the midst of a snowstorm becomes a hero for the mayor of toledo ohio. Especially delivery on a utah highway when a woman rushing to the hospital cant wait to give birth. And it was a big baby. Well have all that and more when action news comes right back. 10 pounds action news continues with meteorologist Adam Joseph Jaime apody Rick Williams and monica malpass. Hello again. Heres whats happening on action news monday night. Slush today, ice tonight. Plunging temperatures could turn wet highways parking lots and sidewalks into dangerously slick surfaces. Also the storm that gave us the glancing blow buried the midwest and is now burying new england in its seconds major storm in six days there. Also its a fresh start for Navy Facility that was the scene of a mass shooting. Now the details. We have had the snow, slush and rain today. Now you should be on the alert for ice tonight. Whether there was enough snow for shoveling or if it was just deep slush and deep puddles theres a good chance all that moisture will remain and turn to ice tonight and it could be called a flash freeze with black ice that can form in minutes. Now, the action cam is looking live right now at the westbound schuylkill expressway near city avenue. A hundred 50 penndot crews have been out salting area highways in case this afternoon. Theyre off the rod right now for the rush hour but about 40 of them will be available again through the night to treat any icy spots that develop. Now, lets go to the action news big board. Meteorologist adam joseph has an idea on whats ahead tonight. Hi adam. Yeah, monica, if you have the sidewalks driveways and walkways with that slush and standing water that has the best chance of turning quickly into that flash freeze of solid ice. The main roads like the schuylkill, the expressways theyre fairing pretty well. Theyve dried out because the cars are constantly traveling on them and we have those winds helping them to dry out and theyve been heavily salted. Really its where you see the slush, thats where we have the concern. 36 in philadelphia right now 23 new york city, two below in burlington but you factor in the wind and you can see that storm right there deepening just to the east of boston. We have those winds funneling in around that low and that is dropping wind chills to nine in new york city, 23 philadelphia, 18 below in syracuse, 22 below in burlington so this storm means business with its cold air that is flooding in as it is strengthening and departing. So that flash freeze were expecting a 10degree drop in temperature in a matter of a couple hours. Again its untreated surfaces with the slush and the standing water that would freeze over, especially the driveways and the sidewalks. If it looks wet to you as youre driving, just assume that it is icy and take extreme caution this evening and overnight. And by tomorrow morning were going to be looking at wind chills in philadelphia zero to five north and west, between zero and five below zero but this arctic air doesnt last long. Well talk about a warmup and another chance for snow before another arctic outbreak for the end of the week coming up in that full accuweather 7day forecast. Rick. All right adam well check back in later. Thank you. While the last winter storm, the latest one steered clear of the tristate area this time it did hammer the midwest and new england with tons of snow. Chicago got more than 19inches of snow in about a day. The fifth largest blizzard to ever hit the city. Cars were buried drivers were stranded and express ways were shut down due crashes. This morning Public Transit suffered delays for more than an hour. A similar scene in massachusetts as a storm delivers a seconds round of snow. The storm delivered a second rounds of snow to an already hard hit area. By this time tomorrow boston could actually total 34inches of snow. That is the snowiest one week that that citys history. Marci gonzalez joins us life. We have a fresh coating of snow here. Earlier we were pelted with freezing rain but as you just mentioned this is nothing compared to what theyre dealing with elsewhere. From nebraska new england it looks and feels the wind blowing in my face the sands and snow. Well just like february. Punxsutawney phil already keeping good on his promise. Six more weeks of winter. Reporter with another winter storm impacting 100 Million People today. People need help. I have time, i have free advertisement thank goodness for friendly neighbors in chicago and detroit where this turned out to be one of the biggest snowstorms on record. Thats where some people got creative with their commutes but most had a bit less fun on the roads. Dozens of cars involved in this crash in chicago that brought interstate 294 to a stand still. And in new york city, freezing rain iced over subway tracks leaving some riders stuck on board. A lot of people crowded. Close to two hours. Very very stuffy. Reporter in massachusetts and other parts of the northeast still buried after last weeks storms, round two is now moving through. Weve already picked up near 6inches here in situate and they are rushing to dig out in boston ahead of tomorrows super bowl victory parade. We want to make sure that the entire city is up and running tomorrow. So were out there with plows. Reporter the storm is not having as much of an impact in new york but as you might expect its having a very big impact at the airports where more than 4,000 flights were canceled today across the country. Live in new york, marci gonzalez, channel6 action news. Okay, marls see, thank marcy thank you. Slick roads may have been a factor in an overnight accident involving a Philadelphia Police car.
