The as we understand is officer James Mccollough was responding to a report of the car theft, when the suspect took off, one fired at him, were told the officer did fire back. Commissioner richard ross just wrapped up a News Conference about a half an hour ago and he explained exactly what happened. This evening, around 8 52 p. M. , officer James Mccollough, assigned to the 18th police district, was on patrol with his partner when they were in the area of around southford and market streets. They were flagged down by a female who indicated that two males were break nothing to her car. As they approached the two males exited the vehicle, they started to run. Officer mccollough tackled one of the males. Almost instantly he was shot in his left leg. The male got up and started running northbound on southford street, officer mccollough persued him and fired three times. That male continued north bound on southford where he escaped very briefly. There were two male that is we believe are responsible for this who are in custody. We are waiting for official identifications on them.
