Reporter a suburban community shattered. After a dinnertime car chase wednesday paralyzing this quiet neighborhood north of houston. A murder suspect finally stops in the culdesac. For nearly four hours, a standoff. The suspect with a gun to his head. The police surrounding him in armored vehicles. 33yearold ron haskell ultimately gives up and tonight hes charged with capital murder, accused of executing six members of this family. I have not seen something this horrific. Reporter Authorities Say haskell tied up and murdered steven and katie stay and four of their Young Children. He also shot the couples 15yearold daughter in the head. She played dead until he left, then called 911, telling police the suspect was headed to her grandparents house to kill them, too. Officers got there first. She absolutely saved the lives of her family members. I mean, she is the hero. Reporter and shes expected to be okay. The lone survivor from her family recognized the gunman who was dressed as a fedex deliveryman, because he is her uncle. Police say haskell came here looking for his exwife. They just divorced on valentines day. Haskell had been arrested for assaulting his wife before and until last year she had a protective order against him. Its not just his exwife. His own mother filed a Domestic Violence complaint against him just last week. Still, no one suspected the family that lived in this home with all of those Young Children might also be a target. Diane . Tough news from texas today. Thank you so much, ryan. And now that headline from overseas, a spy game showdown. The cias top officer in berlin ordered to leave by the German Government. Allegations of espionage, a move both rare and harsh from what is ordinarily a close u. S. Ally. Jonathan karl has been talking to his sources all day. Now from a rainy washington, heres jon. The German Government ordered the cias station chief in germany to get out of the country, the kind of thing we almost never see with a close ally, but germany is outraged with what it considers u. This is especially embarrassing for president obama. Now we turn to the middle east and that dangerous standoff between the israelis and the palestinians. Word that president obama spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu saying the u. S. The Israeli Military has fired back many more missiles. Not a single israeli life has been lost during this operation, while in gaza, scores having killed. At this high school in ashkelon today, theyre taking exams. Teachers from the school are guiding students into the shelter. Its also the exam room. Reporter eden is 18. This is her last exam of her senior year. She says she was nervous about coming today. Because of the situation here. Reporter once this is over, shell join the army. 20,000 reservists have already reported for duty, as the Israeli Military takes positions here on the edges of gaza, ahead of a possible ground offensive. Fire officials looking for the cause of a huge apartment complex fire outside boston early this morning. Seven people were killed, five from the same family. We sat with no communication for 12 hours just waiting. You dont even know that they received it . No idea. You push that button and you hope it works. Reporter but help was on the way. National guardsmen parachuted out of a plane and into the frigid water. Boarding the sailboat and stablilizing lyra. Doctors now believe she had typhoid or salmonella.
