This thursday night and we begin with the news pouring in from texas where a gunman disguised as a deliveryman forced his way into a home. Six members of the same family were killed. Tonight we are laerng more about the alleged shooter as we also learned how a teenager did something that may have saved lives. Abcs ryan owens has been tracking the breaking news today. Reporter a suburban community shattered. After a dinnertime car chase wednesday paralyzing this quiet neighborhood north of houston. A murder suspect finally stops in the culdesac. For nearly four hours, a standoff. The suspect with a gun to his head. The police surrounding him in armored vehicles. 33yearold ron haskell ultimately gives up and tonight hes charged with capital murder, accused of executing six members of this family. I have not seen something this horrific. Reporter Authorities Say haskell tied up and murdered steven and katie stay and four of their Young Children. He also shot the couples 15yearold daughter in the head. She played dead until he left, then called 911, telling police the suspect was headed to her grandparents house to kill them, too. Officers got there first. She absolutely saved the lives of her family members. I mean, she is the hero. Reporter and shes expected to be okay. The lone survivor from her family recognized the gunman who was dressed as a fedex deliveryman, because he is her uncle. Police say haskell came here looking for his exwife. They just divorced on valentines day. Haskell had been arrested for assaulting his wife before and until last year she had a protective order against him. Its not just his exwife. His own mother filed a Domestic Violence complaint against him just last week. Still, no one suspected the family that lived in this home with all of those Young Children might also be a target. Diane . Tough news from texas today. Thank you so much, ryan. And now that headline from overseas, a spy game showdown. The cias top officer in berlin ordered to leave by the German Government. Allegations of espionage, a move both rare and harsh from what is ordinarily a close u. S. Ally. Jonathan karl has been talking to his sources all day. Now from a rainy washington, heres jon. The German Government ordered the cias station chief in germany to get out of the country, the kind of thing we almost never see with a close ally, but germany is outraged with what it considers u. S. Spy games. Last week German Police arrested a German Government employee accused of spying for the u. S. And just yesterday raided the apartment of a second alleged u. S. Spy. This is especially embarrassing for president obama. If you remember when german chancellor Angela Merkels phone calls were listened into, the president personally promised that she would not have to worry about u. S. Spying. The white house is saying almost nothing about this latest revelation. Make no mistake about it, there is some serious damage control going on with u. S. Officials and the government in germany. Now we turn to the middle east and that dangerous standoff between the israelis and the palestinians. Word that president obama spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu saying the u. S. Is prepared to negotiate a cease fire between hamas and israel. We have two reports tonight. Abcs Hamish Macdonald starting us off on the ground in tel aviv. The Israeli Military has fired back many more missiles. Not a single israeli life has been lost during this operation, while in gaza, scores having killed. At this high school in ashkelon today, theyre taking exams. Teachers from the school are guiding students into the shelter. Its also the exam room. Reporter eden is 18. This is her last exam of her senior year. She says she was nervous about coming today. Because of the situation here. Reporter once this is over, shell join the army. 20,000 reservists have already reported for duty, as the Israeli Military takes positions here on the edges of gaza, ahead of a possible ground offensive. The question is whether israels response is proportion at. It talks about precision strikes on hamas targets, but in gaza, they say many of the victims are innocent civilians. Reporter the death toll is quickly rising, around 90 People Killed so far, approximately half said to be women and children and hundreds more have been severely wounded. Fire officials looking for the cause of a huge apartment complex fire outside boston early this morning. Seven people were killed, five from the same family. Some men, women and children escaped by jumping from their windows. Several tenants ran to a nearby fire station to get help. And now, we go overseas to brazil, the count down to the world cup final, germany versus argentina, and a controversy brewing, not about the big game sunday, but the decision surrounding a future world cup. And thats 40 degrees hotter than the brazil heat that led officials in this years world cup in brazil to declare a first of its kind water break because in the middle of this match. The fact of the matter is that it could be dangerous. Reporter Soccer Federation officials were warned about the potentially dangerous heat and about what human Rights Groups called medieval Labor Conditions for workers. All that was ignored in the final vote which came down to qatar and the United States with its 18 potential host cities. The winner is qatar reporter not long after, allegations surfaced that some Soccer Federation members had been bribed to vote for qatar, with a focus on this prominent bill billionaire business man from qatar. Reporter a Soccer Federation vicepresident from the caribbean was accused of taking more than 1 million. Both men have since been kicked out of the Soccer Federation over bribery allegations. Officials in qatar claim they won the vote fair and square. Their Satellite Phone no longer worked and their one year old daughter lyra was sick with fever and a rash. We grabbed the emergency position indicating radio beacon and we activated it. We sat with no communication for 12 hours just waiting. You dont even know that they received it . No idea. You push that button and you hope it works. Reporter but help was on the way. National guardsmen parachuted out of a plane and into the frigid water. Boarding the sailboat and stablilizing lyra. Doctors now believe she had typhoid or salmonella.
