Fatigue is still a concern because of a schedule controllers like which gives them nearly a threeday weekend, its called 211, cramming five different shifts into four days two swing shifts, eighthour break, two day shift, another eight hours off and then an overnight shift and its that overnight shift that is the worry. Just messes your body up. Its brutal on your scircadian rhythms, pretty known fact that the foilphysiological factors reporter the controllers say fatigue can be cut. Fatigue causes mistakes. The kinds of mistakes controllers make or could potentially make with this, we cant afford that. Reporter budget cuts meant fatigue studies at the faa have effectively been eliminated. The faa revealed tonight it is making changes, limiting the number of overnight shifts that can bebe worked in a row and other restrictions for controller schedules to try and reduce that fatigue. It is the fatigue that can lead to mistakes in the skies where there is little margin of error. Surprised it is still going on. Thank you so much david kerley. Some encouraging news. You remember this week began with a shooting at a high school in oregon, the 76th since newtown but wendt this week with a tragedy averted. And its all thanks to an alert experts who recognized a dangerous and troubled young man and took action. Steve osunsami has that story. Reporter today, Tennessee Police tell us they started investigating two students after a disturbing tip from one of the teenagers therapists. This wasnt just a threat, it was a plan of attack. Reporter Authorities Say the teenagers planned to shoot up volunteer high school, killing as many people as possible. In one students home, police say they found guns, firecrackers, a plastic bag full of gunpowder, and floor plans to the high school. There was detailed plans of attack, studies of maximum amount of students in the lunchroom and hallways. Reporter police say the teens journals reveal an obsession with the killings at columbine high school, and that he was waiting until his senior year to execute the plan. The Mental Health professional treating the student, called police last october. If we have a concern that a youth may be a risk or harm to another individual, we make efforts in the moment to notify the individual who is at risk as well as to contact authorities. Reporter shortly after that call, police took both students into custody, where theyve remained. Thursday, Police Charged them with conspiracy to commit first degree murder and terrorism.
