Flames. What we have just learned. And good evening. Im tom llamas in for david tonight, and we begin with the stunning blow to the senate plan to repeal and replace obamacare. The Republican Leaders unable to get the votes to even bring it to the floor for debate. President Trump Inviting all 52 gop senators to a meeting at the white house. Opposition to the plan had been growing within their own ranks. And democrats keeping the pressure on to, take a look at this, dmplon straighting with their constituents they say would be harmed. They say this is only a delay and they will keep their promise to end obamacare. Abcs mary bruce on capitol hill starting us off tonight. Reporter Senate Republicans tonight headed to the white house, leaving behind any hope of passing a health care this week. Well, clearly theres a little more negotiation to do to get to 50. Reporter heads hung low in the east room with the president. This will be great if we get it done. And if we dont get it done, its just going to be something that we just dont like, and that is okay. I understand that very well. Reporter a disappointing end to a day that began with optimism from Republican Leaders. I expect to have the support to get it done, and yes we will vote this week. Reporter but it became increasingly clear the votes simply werent there. What are you hoping to hear from the president tonight . Is there anything he can say to change your mind . Good morning. Ill take that as a no . Do you think republicans will get this done . I dont have any comment right now. Reporter not helping Republican Leaders, the grim outlook from the congressional budget office. Revealing 22 million more americans would be uninsured in 10 years, under the senate bill, 15 million more uninsured next year alone. Nearly 800 billion cut from medicaid. We look refuse to be honest, and i would say courageous enough to point out that all these things that sound nice have very serious negative consequences. Reporter republicans could afford to lose just two vote, but tonight tonight, there are now nine gop senators who say they cannot support this bill. Moderates, because it cuts too deep. Conservatives because it doesnt cut enough. This is not just abstract numbers. These are real people. Reporter outside the capitol, democrats try to put a face to the bill. Holding pictures of americans they say will suffer. While inside, the Vice President arrives to rally republican support. The Vice President s chief of staff and press secretary are spotted too. But their allout push fails to do the trick. We will not be on the bill this week, but were still working toward getting at least 50 people in a comfortable place. And mary bruce joins us from capitol hill, and Senate Majority leader, Mitch Mcconnell came out of the that white house meeting tonight saying they have a good chance of eventually striking a deal, but tonight, the math is getting worse, not better. Reporter tom, in just the last few hours, even more republicans have come out against this bill. Opponents say they want fundamental changes, not just tweaks. Republicans will use their 4th of july recess to work on a new version of the bill, but they could face harsh pushback from constituents back at home, something they were hoping to avoid. A lot of work still to be done. All right, mary. Thank you. Abcs chief white house correspondent, Jonathan Karl was there as senators wrapped up their meeting with the president. What was the president s message to those senators and what this detell him . Reporter the senators heard a pep talk talking about how this was a top priority for him and for the Republican Party and for the country. He spent most of the time though, listening to their concerns, including concerns from moderate republicans about those medicaid cuts. His advice on that was to put more money into the bill. You remember he had called the house bill mean. He said this bill needs to have more heart. His solution today was to put more money in it, and today, they heard a warning from republican leader Mitch Mcconnell that said if they cannot strike a deal among the republicans, they will have to negotiate with democrats who want to preserve obamacare. Jonathan karl for us at the white house. Thank you. Next to the rush hour nightmare here in new york city. An accident in the subway, plunging passengers into the dark. Hundreds of people on board. Abcs Adrienne Bankert on the panic underground. I saw the power went off and the train started jumping up and down. You could see sparks out the window. Reporter Officials Say two cars of a jam packed a train, came off the tracks, careening into a wall when the emergency brakes engaged. The side of this car, ripped open, tracks and signals damaged. We got a go this way. Thats where the smoke is coming from. Reporter smoke created by trash on the tracks catching fire, people knocking out windows to get air and get out. Using their cell phones as flashlights. The train bucked forwards. It backed backwards, and in the process of doing that, two of the cars derailed and scraped the side of the wall. Reporter at least 34 passengers are treated for minor injuries. This comes as the businessest Transit System is under fire for long delays and cancellations. Frustrating riders and highlighting a crumbling underground infrastructure. Service has been partially restored at this station. Though investigators want to know who hit the brakes and why. They say it doesnt appear to be a failure of parts or equipment. Adrienne, thank you. Next to the cyberattack hitting american companies, including hospitals. Part of a global assault on governments and businesses around the globe. Hackers locking up computers and demanding ransom to free them back up. That spanned across 150 countries. Abcs investigative correspondent, brian ross, on this new cyberattack. Reporter also down, the computers at Merck Pharmaceutical in new jersey. Even the company that makes oreo cookies was hit, as well as the computers and phones in washington at this law firm, which warned its lawyers as they entered the lobby. You cant read any emails. You cant read any files. Basically your computer becomes a brick. Reporter the attack first surfaced in ukraine this morning, shutting down the power grid, banks, airports and railroads. As the attack spread across the globe, including at this giant shipping company, the thousands of targets all received this ominous message. In english, on their screens, your files are no longer accessible. Nobody can recover your files without our dekripgs service. Send 300 worth of bitcoin. They might not give you your data back, but hit you again and say give me more money. Sean spicer warning, if mr. Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price. I will tell you that attack on children yesterday, had a big impact on me. Big impact. Reporter the u. S. Retaliated with a missile strike on an air field, the very spot where u. S. Officials now believe preparations for another chemical attack are under way. The Syrian Government quick to dismiss the allegations, but from Bashar Al Assad today, a display of military might, a new video showing him climbing into the cockpit of a russian warplane. And now russia is condemning the new warning from the white house as unacceptable. And cecilia vega joins us now from the white house. Cecilia, strong words from the White House Press secretary, but nothing yet from the president himself. Reporter so far, not yet. That overnight statement came as you said, not from the pentagon or the president , but from the press secretary himself, and it seemed to catch a number of Administration Officials completely off guard. If the white house decides to strike on this one, we are told that military planning has been under way for several days, tom. Cecilia vega with that stern warning from the white house tonight.
