Officials warning that plots against america by these grouches being targeted could, quote, accelerate. Tonight, new airstrikes over syria. The images coming in from the last 24 hours. A missile taking out this target in roca, considered the isis capital in syria. And then the tomahawks in the arabian sea, racing across the sky. Tonight, youll see the images coming in now, and this new question. Had these airstrikes stopped a new 9 11 type plot . Were they making bombs that could get on planes headed to america . Abcs brian ross leading us off tonight. Brian, good evening. Reporter good evening, david. The overnight airstrikes may well have stopped what was supposed to be al qaedas 9 11 attack on the u. S. Described by officials as a bold plot that included american passenger jets by what was essentially the special forces of al qaeda, called the Khorasan Group. The concern was so great that the u. S. Dedicated eight of the 22 airstrikes against the syrian base of the Khorasan Group outside of the city of aleppo. We believe this group was nearing the execution phase of an attack either in europe or the homeland. Reporter three key factors emerged today about why the Khorasan Group is considered so dangerous. Its made up of 50 seasoned al qaeda fighters. Many of whom who were close to osama bin laden. They were building bombs undetectable by the latest airsport screening machines. And among their targets were passenger jets bound for the u. S. , using recruits posing as tourists to carry the bombs on board. We know that the Khorasan Group has attempted to recruit westerners to serve as operatives or to infiltrate back into their homelands. Reporter today, a dutch jihadist in the aleppo area posted a video of the aftermath of what he said was a usairstrike against an al qaeda headquarters. Many brothers died. Many brothers got wounded. Reporter the u. S. Had developed unusually good intelligence on the syrian safe haven of the hard core al qaeda unit. And the white house treated the khorasan x secret. We stopped plotting by conditioned al qaeda operatives known as the Khorasan Group. Reporter this is the leader of the cora son group. A onetime confidant of bin laden. U. S. Officials said today, most of his min volume ved in the plot and maybe him were killed. We believe that the individuals that were plotting and planning it have been eliminated. That plot very alarming, brian back with us. The big question tonight, was that leader taken out . Reporter the Officials Say they dont know yet, but they are confident that plot has been disrupted, at least for now, david. Brian ross leading us off. Thank you. Lets get right to Abcs Martha Raddatz tonight, with the images and the numbers now. Where are those missiles landing and what have they wiped out so far . Reporter the overnight images are stunning. And so are the numbers. Nearly 250 bombs and missiles launched from 48 fighter jets, bombers, drones and navy ships. It began in the dead of night. 3 30 a. M. Local. More than 40 tomahawk cruise missles fired from u. S. Warships in the persian gulf and red sea, targets that khorasan terror cell around aleppo and isis targets in raqqah. The missiles struck training camps, Manufacturing Centers and a finance center. Half hour later, 4 00 a. M. The u. S. , joined by its arab partners, unleashed a torrent of f18s, f15s, and 16s, and the f22, the first time the Stealth Fighter has been used in combat. Hitting an isis command center with gpsprescision guided missles. You can see on the lefthand side, the before shot, and then you can see, as you look at it on the righthand side, the after shot. Reporter just after 7 00 a. M. , the third and final wave. More fighter jets launched to take out isis targets year the iraq border. Including this residential compound converted to an isis training camp. It was wiped out by a volley of missles, which the pentagon said hit directly on their marks. The u. S. Carried out the overwhelming number of strikes, but bahrain, jordan, the United Arab Emirates and saudi arabia all launched airstrikes. Qatar had armed fighter jets providing cover in case Syrian Government warplanes showed, but that did not happen. The pentagon is still doing bomb damage assessment, but says so far it appears these strikes were very successful. They say there was minimal Collateral Damage and they said they are not aware of any civilian deaths. But the pentagon acknowledged, this campaign against isis could take years and with no ground troops, the targeting could become more difficult, david, as the isis fighters try to blend in with the population. While taking xarelto®, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. Xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. Xarelto® can cause serious bleeding, and in rare cases, may be fatal. Get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising, or tingling. If you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto®, watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. Do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. Tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. Before starting xarelto®, tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems.
