The National Guard is on the scene and theyre trying to get things under control. Freddie grays family pleading for an end to the chaos in baltimore. Get justice for my son but dont do it like this here. Dont kill the whole city just for him. Its wrong. Marylands governor declared a state of emergency and called up the National Guard. Reporter baltimore is burning after a day of looting and rioters clashing violently with police, a Community Center in flames lights up the city as police and Community Activists seem to have taken back the streets. Lost to chaos earlier, rioters armed with gas masks, ready for a fight. The police force under siege. At least 15 officers injured. Baltimores much better than what youre seeing today. But as the fires continue to burn, people here left asking if the police have done enough and whether this violence is really about the death of 25yearold freddie gray. On sunday, april 12th, gray was taken into Police Custody. The arrest once again captured by a bystanders cell phone. Reportedly when he arrived at the Police Station a half hour later, he was unable to breathe or talk. Medics rushed him to the hospital. A few days later, he slipped into a coma and then later died from a severe spinal injury. So far, there have been more questions than answers regarding his death. Its unclear why gray was arrested. Protesters claim gray may have been put through whats known in baltimore as a rough ride. Officers allegedly using sudden stops and sharp turns to injure suspects. Commissioner Anthony Batts confirming gray was not wearing a seat belt. Gray was laid to rest. At his funeral his family pastors, Community Leaders called for peace. But the calls have not been heeded by some. After ten days of peaceful protests. This is a grieving family that deserves answers for their son. People say there was a big social Media Movement telling kids to get to that mall after school to demonstrate, to cause a little bit of disruption. Things got out of hand when people started throwing bottles and rocks and bricks at Police Officers and no surprise they responded aggressively with force, with arrests and moving in on those demonstrators. So now what, karen . A curfew is going to be in place. But it wasnt in place last night. The day the protests broke out. Its actually going to start tomorrow or excuse me, today. They announced it at about 8 00. The speculation is there werent the resources on the ground to be able to do that. The National Guard made it here before midnight in place in baltimore.
