Inside their hijacked suv, three hostages from the bank of the west branch they just held up. Our response to the bank was swift. Especially because of the magnitude of the type of call that came in to the police department. Reporter police fired a barrage of shots during the 45minute chase. The gunmen, firing back with ak47style rifles. During the pursuit, the suspects threw one of the female hostages from the speeding car. And then, another hostage was shot and thrown from the car, too. She suffered a grazing gunshot wound. Anxious onlookers and relatives watched in horror. It will be a relief once i know whats going on. As long as i know my sisterinlaw, and everybody else involved is okay. Except for the people that did this. I really dont care about them. Reporter the suspects car eventually became disabled. And a shootout for several minutes, in which the third hostage was shot dead. The three gunmen suffered gunshot wounds. Two of them were fatal. It was such a chaotic, ongoing, fluid situation. Really, one of the most dangerous, tense situations a Police Officer can ever go through. Reporter Officials Say an investigation is now under way. Police car is the stolen getaway car and homes along with the way were riddled with bullets. One officer said he had never seen anything like this after 18 years on the job. Overseas, where israel and hamas leaders have agreed to a temporary halt in air strikes and rocket fire. The ceasefire is intended to allow the palestinians to restock water, food and other supplies. It follows the death of four, Young Palestinian boys, all cousins, killed in a naval strike. American diplomats are hoping this brief respite will turn into a longterm end to the violence. We have a legitimate ceasefire and see if we can find a way to stop the conflict. Israel has to take the actions to defend its citizens, as any normal country would against terrorists. The palestinianamerican teenager who claims he was beaten by the Israeli Police has returned home to tampa. He told the cheering crowd that he will never think of freedom in the same way again. Such a volatile scene there, and today, with the fragile ceasefire. Its only supposed to last about five hours. And its just getting under way about now. The ceasefire was supposed to be taking place. Were seeing a plume of smoke there. Were hearing reports about palestinians infiltrating in tunnels into israel. Now, to the latest on former captive Army SergeantBowe Bergdahl. Bergdahl is breaking his silence through his lawyer since he was released from his taliban captors. Heres abcs brian ross. Reporter for the first time, Sergeant Bergdahl offered his public gratitude to president obama, for being rescued from the taliban in that dramatic prisoner swap six weeks ago. The message delivered by his newly hired lawyer, eugene fidell. Sergeant bergdahl is deeply grateful to president obama. He believes that president obama saved his life. And i think thats true. Reporter as the military investigation begins, now, into how bergdahl became a taliban prisoner in the first place, bergdahls lawyer says, when the full story of what happened comes out, critics will be much more hesitant to call him a deserter. Its really unimaginable to spend five years in the hands of people who, as far as we can tell, were willing to kill him brutally, at a moments notice. Reporter the lawyer would not comment on bergdahls continued decision not to speak with his parents, who have told friends they have tried without success to reach him. The lawyer said bergdahl is eager to leave the military. But officials have put his status on hold, while the investigation continues. The next step will come in about a month, when the twostar general conducting the investigation, can recommend that nothing be done, that bergdahl be reprimanded or that he face a possible courtmartial. In fact, the tourist and his family are back out at the beach, resuming their vacation. Wildfires in Eastern Washington state are threatening hundreds of homes this morning. The state of emergency has been declared in 20 counties there. Much of southern colorado is sopping wet this morning, battered by relentless line of powerful storms. Creeks overflowed and sent water surging through the streets of colorado springs. Many drivers couldnt get home after a major highway and other flooded roads were shut down. The water rose so fast, a number of people had to be rescued from their cars.
