Democratic Party Officials say history has shown that what happens in iowa can influence what happens in other states. Particularly when it comes to either political party. Its been a little bit of up and down here on groundhogs day. Temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s. Were starting to see some areas warm up in the 50s. As you notice, theres a big difference in many areas across the board here. 70 degrees in columbia. 55 in st. Matthews. Sumter at 54. Manning at 72. Orangeburg at 72. Were certainly seeing the temperature gradient from north to south be much different and were starting to see the cooler air from the north. Theres a cold front to our north. So areas not that far away are going to be much cooler today. Areas pretty much columbia in there south should be much warmer. Some of these areas here, this pocket of cooler air around sumter and st. Matthews,ic i think that will kind resolve itself out and theyll be in the 70s very shortly. We are seeing some variable cloud cover and wind out of the east and right now, temperatures kind of all over the map right now. Looking for clear skies for us for now. Cloud cover as well. Right now, lots of sunshine for us here in downtown cololbia as we overlook the roof cam. You can see the sunshine beaming off the rooftops here. 70 degrees. Mostly sunny. Winds out of the east and southeast at five to 10 miles per hour. Making for a nice warm afternoon other areas not as warm. Were seeing several locations stuck in the kind of upper 50s right now. Newberry at 55. 59 at camden. That makes sense. Some areas not making too much sense of why theyre so cool right now. Were seeing a weakened diffused cold front and notice how much warmer we are here. 72 degrees. 72 in orangeburg. 72 in manning. Some of these other areas should be warming up with us. But theyre not at the moment. At least the temperature gauge isnt so i think the gauge is probably waiting to catch up a little bit but i do expect those areas anywhere from columbia and south to be in the low to mid 70s. Elsewhere, you might be struggling to get into the mid 60s. It will be a different forecast depending on where you are today and not that much difference in distance there. Were looking for the county to the north, looking at maybe at least a 10 degree swing in temperatures and a very different sky cover forecast as well. But were starting to see some of that become a little weakened right now. More sunshine coming into the forecast for us this afternoon and that should provide plenty of warmth for us as well. High of 76 yesterday, be up there in the mid 70s today. Lots of sunshine at the moment and winds out of the east and eventually the southeast will usher in humid air and warmer air into the forecast area today. Did see a few spotty showers towards the upstate. Not much to write home aut there. Were looking back to the west for the rest of the rain event that were expecting to come our way. That will take some time to get here. Not any time this afternoon or tonight necessarily. Its going to be easily after midnight before even the leading edge precip starts to get here with some of this system that were looking at back towards the plains. The actual low pressure system around kansas city will trara up towards the great lakes. Obviously, look at how much cold air is on the backside of that system. Looking anywhere in the northern tier, kansas, nebraska, iowa, those areas seeing a nice round of snow. For us, just a rain event. Us here, highs likely to be in the 70s. To mid 70s today. 70s again tomorrow. Even with the rain coming our way. Heres the cold front moving through mainly tomorrow afternoon. Thats not an ideal time necessarily. Look for thunderstorms to pop up along that line and if we do see storms, they could be severe potentially. Were not looking at a whole lot of energy in this system but there is a pretty good difference between the warm air and the cold air so that usually gets the Severe Weather going.
