What should people know about it . I think first much all, when we first came to des moines, i was 6 years old and there were not the percentage of hispanics. Theres no way there was the percentage of hispanics that we people from other countries that were latino or hispanic decent. The need was because my parents were immigrant workers we migrated from iowa to minnesota and my parents worked on those fields. On the way back, my dad got sick and we ended up staying in des i was 5 years old. What we can develop this for. The community leaders, black and white can be powerful in the country. This is the first theme forum in america. Theres only four forums in america. Four. New hampshire has one. Des moines has two. The Des Moines Register New Hampshire had one. What i tell you about iowans, they do care. The civil war in the south, we fought for the south. The other thing, more white men died percent capita fighting for me to be free than any other state in america. Percent capita. I know these facts. Look at iowa, and you ask, why iowa . Is that correct . Have. Im glad to be here because this is where it all begins. Now, you have been involved with the Clinton Family in the past. You supported senator sanders. Why are you supporting bernie . You know, senator sanders has a righteous indignation, regarding all of the things i when i peel back the layers and listening to what he has to say about working corps and middle class people. And access to the ballot box is the most important thing to me. I said this is the man i have to support. Senator sanders is the right person being the next president of the United States of america. His righteous indignation and the fact hes been in the elective ministry for over 30 years and has not changed what he believes is right for the people he represents. Whether that be a mayor of burlington, congressman in vermont now senator. Hes held steady to listen to people in this state and now this country. Our own path to elected government, you had six siblings, you are ate seventh . Tell us about it. I my parents got married young, i grew up in the i help made mother supplement the income. Theres times we didnt have food to eat. We slept in the same room. My mother died at 42. An aneurysm burst in her brain. My journey has been hard. Senator sanders is not afraid to talk about poor people. And having someone give up on me. I may not have had the successes. Whether becoming a College Graduate or a councilwoman and then state senator, then running for office in the state. All of that would not have been available to me had folks given up on me. When senator sanders talked about making sure our young people are not saddled with debt so they can bream big, or make sure universal health care is a right. When somebody turns 18 years of age, they have a right to vote. Putting people back to work to that speaks to me. I believe one of the clintons got involved cam papering for you. Thats not true. What happened . The clintons did not campaign for me. I know people think that happened. That never happened. It was a letter written on my behalf by president clinton. I was happy to receive that letter. It was a fundraising letter. I used that letter to fund raise with my donors. There was no campaigning or any of that. That was a bit exaggerated. The other two candidate, governor omalley and secretary clinton, any thoughts on their campaign . This is not about any of those candidates. This is about the future of america. You have to make a choice. I think the Democratic Candidates are much better suited than anybody on the republican side. To endorse is senator bernie sanders. The person i tried to tell his story, the story why i believe he can take our country to the next level. Thats why im here in iowa today. Are you enjoy participating in the iowa caucus . I am. My brother went to Clinton Community College Years ago. He came hes from ohio, so, this is not my first time to iowa. Its been a while. But im getting those warm and Fuzzy Feelings back all over again, but, yeah. If youre a former ohio state senator, have you noticed in your time here, big difference to iowa politics or similar . Its too early for me to tell. Iowa and ohio has similarities, cultural similarities. I feel right at home in iowa. To give people an idea so, to give people an idea what they are tasking you with, you are traveling on behalf of the sanders campaign. Im a national surrogate. My job is to cme to events like this. Im here to support the volunteers to let them know work is not in vein and they are the most important people in this process. Every person they touch that person will come to know senator sanders through their eyes. To be here, to be in New Hampshire. I was just here with a democratic debate, ill go to south carolina, my job is touch people. Whether its a big audience, im going to be out there rallying the troops and letting them know that their work is not in vein, they believe in senator sanders and his vision for the future of this country.
