Branstad has come out with a new proposal that is raising some eyebrows. If you go shopping, have kids in school, or drink water from your tap its a proposal that affects you. Local fives chief Political Correspondent amanda krenz breaks it down for us tonight in our big story. east village lets start in 2008. Thats when a law passed that said a 1 percent sales tax, one penny on every dollar, that you pay when you go out shopping will help iowa schools. school specifically this one cent sales tax helps schools with their infastructure needs. But this source of funding isnt permanent its set to expire in the year 2029. statehouse governor branstad is proposing a plan that will keep that one cent sales with the expectation that shoppers will spend more and more money each year, generating more of this source of revenue. But his new plan isnt for schools to get all that money, he wants to start divying up that expected growth. water faucet branstad wants part of that money to start going to improve iowas water quality. The plan will scrape some revenue off the top of that one percent sales tax money, so schools still get help for infastructure, and the state also gets some funding to help make sure rivers and lakes arent polluted and this is safe for you to drink. Local 5s chief Political Correspondent amanda krenz will have a one onone interview with governor branstad to discuss his legislative priorities, as the session begins jack man who was killed in a trench collapse this morning. Altoona police say 30 year old of colfax died in the accident. It happened near 5th avenue and thats where the linden Oaks Apartment development. Jack when police and rescue units arrived, they said jorgensen passed away from his injuries. The Recovery Efforts took six of cold, muddy conditions and continuing collapses in the 12 foot deep trench. Police dont believe the crew was using shoring or wall barriers when the collapse happened. They were currently working on infrastructure, mains, sewers , water lines, hooking into the mains that the city has. The bar owner Alarm Company and saw the tried to break into a machine in the bar. Burglary happened just hours after at the iron saddle saloon in dayton. Owners of the bar there called the Webster CountySheriffs Office saying their bar had been burglarized and the suspect took a safe. Both Sheriffs Offices are looking for the same suspect pictured on your screen. They dont have a name yet, but are loking for any tips the public may have. The hawkeyes started off slow at home aganst the cornhuskers going down 10 before scoring their first points. Not a good start for the hawkeyes being their first game ranked in the top 25.
