A 15 year old johnston student with special needs was assaulted on the way home from school on october 29th. The bus driver, robert scarbough, was charged with child endangeremnt and assault, and has since bonded out of jail. The student and his family have spoken to local 5 about the assault and are waiting for the School District to finish their investigation before pursuing legal action. It was just more than a year ago that this young girl you see here was found dead alongside drugs, razor blades, ammunition and conterfeit money. Jack since then her mom and then boyfriend were charged with her death. The boyfriend, deshaun trombone, was sentenced to 65 years in jail last month. Stephanie tonight farmers are working to repopulate their flocks and get business going again after the devestaging avian flu outbreak this past summer. At its peak the outbreak affected 18 of iowas 99 counties. Infecting 31 point five million birds, who were all euthenized to stop the outbreak from spreading. Tonight were checking in on a western iowa farm who despite being able to restock has doubts about rebuilding. Stephanie rod parkera turkey farmer from cherokee was fully restocked two weeks ago. The fire started in the club house of amana colonies golf course. Four Fire Departments spent two hours fighting the flames. It could be seen for miles, burning so hot it ignited golf carts sitting nearby. The daylight shows what remains once a clubhouse, now smoldering rubble. You pop over this hill, you see the clubhouse. Its a beautiful sight. Itll be sadly missed. I know that the Amana Community will help us out and do whatever they need to. We will just be looking to lean on them a little bit, and see what we can do. Hopefully rebuild and kind of take it from there. Jack an attempted suicide is what caused a Motel Explosion in cedar fallls last month, iowa dci released tonight. Investigators say Matthew Ferleman blew out the pilot light on a Gas Appliance inside his room at the rest motel, trying to kill himself. When he woke up, he lit a cigarette, causing the explosion. Ferleman was injured during the explosion and died from his injuries. Stephanie tonight, new information in the death of an omaha police officer. Offier kerrie orozco, origionally from walnut iowa and who lived in council bluffs, was killed on the job in omaha last may. Shot at her was given probation purchasing the gun used to kill orozco. The omaha police chief released a statement today, saying the court missed an opportunity, he says this was an illegal straw purchase, and a link to the gun violence that has damanged their community over and over again. Now another freedom rock, 9 and a half feet long, 7 and a half feet wide, and 32 inches thick, was placed infront of the Downtown District of cherokee. Veterans of foreign wars are teaming up with artist Bubba Sorensen to honor veterans by painting murals on these rocks. Sorensens goal is to have one in every iowa county.
