The director was one of the original writers. Its astonishing. Its because its been 40 years, and we wrote it i think our purpose was to get a vacation at lake george to the theatre. So that its had this life and touched so many people is thrilling. Really thrilling. Reporter the thrill is happening here, the paper mill playhouse in new jersey. A venue with a history as rich as the music it showcases. Built in 1795 as a true paper mill, it became a regional theater in 34. It was dubbed the official state several productions moved on to broadway as pump boys and dinettes did. One is making her return having appearing in newsies. Its nice to get away. I like getting out of the city. Its a nice treat. Its a great theatre to work at. I had a good time last time. Its a fantastic place. Its someplace ive always wanted to go work. Im from a small town in wisconsin. When i went to school there, we knew about this theatre. This is where you want to work. Ive seen five or six there over the years. Im just thrilled to get to finally be in one. Its a dream. And pump boys and dinettes is running. We have a variety of audiences. What we try to do over the course of the year, we do five selections. We try to make sure theres something for everybody. A family selection, maybe something that pushes the envelope, maybe something brand new, and a show like pump boys which is for the whole family. Ernie its so much fun being there. I know you have a lot of passion for what you do. When youre doing what you love, its not work, is it . No, its not. Its challenging at times, but i have to say i feel lucky to get up every day, go to work with a team of people i love at a place i love creating terrific entertainment. Ernie its safe to say the theatre is alive and well especially in new jersey. A lot of people want to go to the theatre. Its a little expensive, but the desire is there. I think there is a desire there. With the number of shows that are opening in new york, theres a renewed interest in theatre, especially musical theatre.
