New York City Council members came up with the idea to have the mural painted by the people of Crown Heights here at the brooklyn childrens museum. I wanted to create the next generations of leadership from the africanamerican, caribbean, the jewish community, and all of the new residents that have heights, calling this their home. In fact, they say temperatures could be warm enough to allow the mosquito that carries it to migrate this far north. Ox hill hospital. This is troubling. We know its getting closer and closer to us. Absolutely. Theres three things that this the mosquito needs to be able to transmit the virus. One is steady, warm weather. The second is a supply of stagnant water. The third is us, humans, to be able to transmit it. The National Atmospheric center forecasted what they believe temperatures to be. The southeastern states, which have consistently high temperatures, as well as they have a lot of rain in the summer, they have the highest risk. New york falls into a moderate risk category but its troubling. Dari wow. So well, theyre saying its coming here. Obviously the faster it gets warmer, the more at least in new york state, in the fall and in the spring, theres not a very high risk of having consistently warm temperatures needed to allow the over the summer, theres a good chance, but its not as high as in places like florida, texas, georgia, alabama. Steve im assuming the typical precautions to try to keep yourself protected from any mosquito . Absolutely. We talked about what the state is doing. You can make sure you have mosquito nets on your house. Make sure youre wearing long clothing, especially during the daylight hours. And you can wear insect repellent. Steve thats hard with long clothing when its 100 in the city. Air pollution, not just bad for your lungs. Being exposed to it for a month or two could increase the risk of developing diabetes, especially for the obese. This is interesting because were trying to figure out exactly what the link is there. Absolutely. This was a study, it was a population study. They looked at a group of a thousand People Living in southern california. They found that air pollution was an independent risk factor for developing diabetes and obesity. Animal models and through human studies by small particles from exhaust of gasoline, which are 2. 5 micro meters, which is 25 thousandth of an inch. When you breathe these in, they go into the terminal branches of the lungs, and they get into the bloodstream. We think these can cause an inflammatory reaction and put your body in a pro inflammatory state. It can lead to diabetes like obesity and potentially cancer. Steve everything we hear about, inflammation is the root of health issues. Dari there are some precautions you can do. There are things you can do. This is an involuntary risk factor. We all breathe the air. You can do things, especially if youre close to a highway. You can have a hepa filter in your house that filters out the particles. You can limit your exposure to running during the peak hours when theres traffic backed up steve even places like southern california, the air quality has gotten so much better than it was in general compared to the 80s. Theres the potential for six inches of snow around here, believe it or not, and it will be a wet snow, heavy, wet snow. That could cause issues. The wind will pick up. And for the very First Time Since he became mayor, bill de celebration since gay groups were allowed to march under their own banner. The parade has essentially wrapped up. Fifth avenue has cleared out. There are plenty of bagpipes and bands, but Officials Say today was about more than st. Patrick. Top of the morning to you. Reporter mayor de blasio celebrating what he calls a powerful and moving day. For the first time as mayor, he ended his boycott and marched up fifth avenue with lgbt Irish Americans, some that wasnt allowed until this year. This is right for the city for everyone to come together. I have such a feeling of peace today. I saw this crisis begin 25 years ago. I knew one day wed come together. What a beautiful thing it is. Which has worked for years to open up the parade for gays and lesbians marched today. After 25 years, today is a historic and joyful day as the irish lgbt group lavender and Green Alliance crosses an historic threshold and step on to fifth avenue. Weve waited for this moment for 25 years. Reporter Governor Cuomo on fifth ave celebrating a historic event. Its a different day in new york for gay new yorkers and for gay americans and a lot of that started in this state. And thats going to be another proud chapter in the history of the state of new york.
