Her journey has raised awareness about the transgender community, but many say that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Steve fox 5s jen lahmers spoke to a local transgender woman hoping her story will help others. She was born a twin. She was also born a man. Growing up in dallas, texas, she says it wasnt easy coming to terms with what she felt inside. It can be very confusing. It took years for me to be, like, im not male. Im a woman. And these are the steps i need to take to live an authentic life. Reporter several years ago, she went through gender confirmation surgery with the help of dr. Harrison lee who helped Caitlyn Jenner in her transformation. He was known as one of the leading transgender surgeons. He does these surgeries all the time. So when i found out that he also did her work, it sort of like solidified my searches and became my surgeon. We have found extreme segregation where you have schools where 10 percent or less of the students are white and the school is almost exclusively africanamerican or latino. There are examples of schools where diversity in the classroom is working when made a priority. I think more and more people are now realizing it is time to take this up again. Theres been 24 outbreaks in that part of the country. While e. Coli has not definitively been linked to chipotle, theyre voluntarily closing 43 of 1700 stores in that region until further investigation takes place. Right now federal, state and local authorities are doing a thorough investigation. Theyre questioning the patients that have suffered from e. Coli, asking exactly where they ate, going to the sources, testing the food and seeing if steve this illustrates the flipside to what extent chipotle uses fresher ingredients, theres a risk to that. There is. It can come from undercooked ground beef. Thats a common source. It also can come from produce and the salsa used in their products contains uncooked vegetables, tomatoes, onions. Cooking kills the bacteria. This comes raw. So thats a potential source. It is not confirmed. Its under investigation. Researchers say that Clinical Trials around the country aimed at curing mans best friend may shed light on human cancers, which is so interesting. Were all connected. Dogs and humans develop cancer similarly. By testing dogs suffering from cancer, we can learn a lot and see if they work in humans. These veterinary researchers are communicating with each other so you can accelerate the understanding of cancer. A lot of progress has been made. Ill give you an example. There was a vaccine administered to dogs that produced antibodies that attacked the tumor itself. Thats a novel way to treat cancer and hopefully it can be applicable to humans.
