And today representatives from the National Weather service will be here in our viewing area. Theyre trying to figure out if the storm system that brought all that heavy rain and strong winds yesterday also spawned tornados, our very own emma wright joins us near oxford in Granville County. We understand that that that area is one of the hardest hit yesterday. What are you seeing this morning . Yeah, it really was. I mean there is just devastation for at least half a mile here. We are on huntburrough road. And when the National WeatherServices Comes out here to investigation these some of the things theyre going to be looking at. See the trees, the tops of them sheered off, the ones that are missing powerful storm cloud came all the way through here. These trees go for hundreds of feet and also this, take a look at some of these limbs were a couple hundred feet from where the top of the tree originated from. That gives you an idea of how powerful that storm was earlier today not only did it knock down the trees it took out the tops of a house. I mean, look at this, the roof of this house is missing. Were told the man that lives here just happened to escape the danger because he took a trip to walmart just before the storm blew through. Coming up were going to hear from one of the his friends and shes going to walk us through what happened to him and how they say theyre so thankful his life was saved. No one was injured and killed and they do have lot of clean up to do. Thanks a lot. Now, we also had crews covering the storm in moore we found damage but as you can see it wasnt as extensive. A big tree uprooted and fell onto a truck and trailer. It also snapped a power line. No one was hurt but crews did have to work for several hours to make repairs. And in Cumberland County crews worked to get things back to normal after high winds tore off a metal canopy. It happened at a dodge dealership. It hit power lines on its way to the ground. It is amazing that no one was injured during this storm and driving through durham there is some significant damage in one home im just northwest of the city of durham, in the neighborhood of trevor circle. For the most part theres several branches and tree limbs nothing too significant that is causing damage to the homes but if you drive all the way down its a dead end road at the very end of the road there is a tree on top of a car. Now, im told that according to the durham Sheriffs Department no one was injured. Luckily no one was inside that car at the time. Now, as far as the other places arounder here in northwest durham not too much damage to report but as you did report, russ, there is about 1,000 people still in durham without power. Here in this area it looks like power is restored. I know crews really trying to work and get that all fully restored. You can see all the kids and the adults read to go pass the time. Glad that the learning still continued. Grays creek schools in Cumberland County activated students lined the haul and covered their heads for about 30 minutes. And wake county tried to get the kids home. And this was the scene this raleigh as parents picked up their kids, parents said it was a smart plan though. I was concerned for their safety because weve had tornados come through here before, and im glad that im having the opportunity to get her early. And a similar scene in durham where threats of a tornado prompted several business and the schools to shut down early. School was schedule today dismiss two hours early and the district increase that had to 3 hours. Fort bragg schools also released students starting at noon yesterday about 15 minutes prior to the release though a Tornado Warning was issued for cumberland. We called Fort Bragg School officials hotel us that at that point it was too late to alter the early dismissal plans so they stuck with it.
