At last check, there have been 24 stormrelated deaths linked cumberland and lenore counties. Utility crews continue the work to restore power to ns of thousands of homes and buildings. The state department of Environmental Quality still trying to determine if any coal ash was released after learning that matthew caused erosion and an active coal ash basin. The judge ordered election boards in 36 eastern counties to extended the Voter Registration deadline. The North Carolina department of transportation is following Hurricane Matthew. You know, some parts of i95 have reopened. Sections from benson to fayetteville continue to be impacted through the weekend. The ncdot is building a crossover that would allow traffic to shift to the northbound side so engineering crews can repair the southbound side. The crossover will be in place for at least three weeks. And a lot of good will on display in lumberton this week as companies joined forces to feed families in 20,000 people yesterday. Many of whom have been surviving without hot meals since last weekend. We talked with people who were seeing their Community Come together at such a critical time. It makes you want to cry. Because, like you said, we have never had this happen to us before and so many good people has come together to help. To be. It is the way the world needs to be. Sams club plans to provide more meals starting at 10 00 a. M. And in raleigh, brighton high sool held a fund raiser during home coming friday night. Several students skipping the communities to collect money for people affected by Hurricane Matthew. They were compulled to act mom from the county who mentioned how hard hit her family was and passing to the schools principal. Within 24 hours, organized the fund raiser. We said what do they need . I reached out to call mom at home and she said what they are in need of and the email nt out to every parent and tonight its home coming and they have been giving tremendously. And in total, the school raised more than 650 in two quarters of football. In greenville now, the tar river has crested, but a major flood stage is in afft through the weekend. Cumberland county classes will start on a twohour delay on monday and way county schools will remain closed on monday. Teachers will have an optional workday on tuesday and wednesday with a tentative plan to bring students back on thursday, friday, and saturday. Saturday, though, would be ab early an early dismissal day. Of chandler ke in, ya. The jury will nt the former unc student is facing seconddegree murder charges in the death of three people last year. Prosecutors said that kenya was drunk when he slammed headon into another vehicle while driving the wrong way on e85. And friends and i85.
