Right now hundreds of prisoners are being moved to over prisons after what Corrections Officers are calling a disturbance at a prison in wayne county. The incident unfolded yesterday afternoon at the Neuse Correctional Institute in goldsboro. Thats where we find cbs north reporter good morning, theres just under 800 inmates that are housed here at the Neuse Correctional Institute and this morning about 500 of them had to be moved to different facilities as well as Law Enforcement to help house those people this morning because of the damage here at the facility caused by that disturbance. Department of Public Safety officials tell us a small group of inmates set at least two separate fires at the prison around 4 30 yesterday afternoon. Diagnostic building, and one was set in the storage shed that held supplies, and that building is destroyed. Officials say the inmates involved also broke windows and damaged four dorm rooms. According to authorities one prison employee is being treated for minor injuries while responding to the disturbance. One inmate was assaulted but has been treated and released. At this point in their investigation officials would not call this a riot. Theyd consider it a riot if facility, and in this case they did not. The facility remains on lockdown. Well have what we call the prison Emergency Response team, they will remain at the facility to maintain safety and security at the prison. And pamela walker, the woman you just heard from has worked with the state for about 17 years now. According to the aberdeen times. Com, a ford ranger ran off busby road and hit a tree and burst into flames. A witness pulled the driver from the burning truck but he did die at the scene. He is 25yearold stony crabtree. The Highway Patrol is investigating that crash. Also breaking overnight, new information this morning about a crash on i440 that closed a section of the road for hours. Raleigh police say a driver was wake forest road exit and caused that crash. At least five vehicles were involved. Crews took at least one person to the hospital with serious injuries. That crash happened around 9 30 last night. The westbound lanes did not open until 2 30 this morning. The crash reconstruction unit is still investigating that incident. Today governor pat mccrory will tour one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Matthew. The governor will be in Edgecombe County at 30 this morning. He will princeville was left underwater because of flooding. Engineers removed millions of gallons of water from the town. Princeville Elementary School flooded. It took crews about five hours to reopen the lanes between capital boulevard and wake forest road. New information this morning about a disturbance at the Neuse Correctional Institution in wayne county. The inmates set two fires in part of the prison. Because of the damage 500 inmates were transferred to other prisons. A wake county teacher is expected to make his First Court Appearance today accused at Lenoir County. 39yearold Timothy Bennett is a fine arts teacher for sanderson high school. He worked at South Lenoir High School last year and the communication continued with the student after he left. There is no evidence Lenoir County schools had any knowledge prior to that relationship. Investigators are at the scene of a crash in Southern California trying to figure out what caused a tour bus to plow into an 18wheeler. At least 13 people died and Chris Martinez has the latest from North Palm Springs which is about 100 miles east of los angeles. A crane was needed to separate a tour bus and tractor trailer on interstate 10. The bus plowed into the back of the truck very early sunday morning. In almost 35 years ive never been to a crash where theres been 13 confirmed fatal accidents, so its tough. A survivor told police most of the paser First Responders used ladders to reach the victims because the door was inaccessible. The trailer itself entered about 15 feet into the bus, so you can see that it was a substantial impact. The bus was traveling significantly faster than the tractortrailer that had struck from behind. The bus driver died in the crash while the truckdriver was injured as were dozens of bus and therefore were flown through the air and ended up sustaining facial trauma. The bus was heading west on i10 back from los angeles from a casino near palm springs. The 1996 bus was inspected earlier this year. And no mechanical deficiencies were noted. Right now investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at an rv on the delaware memorial bridge. The promotional rv belonged to weed world candies. The rv was full of marijuana candy on its way to philadelphia when it caught fire. The five people in the rv got out safely. A team of animal control officers from across the state helped in Edgecombe County after Hurricane Matthew, and one of those sent to the area was scott kish. He said the officers had just finished feeding a group of dogs in princeville when noticed something behind his truck. The dog ended up running behind the truck before the truck stopped. The dog jumped right up and made himself at home in the truck there. Thats when they knew he was not a stray and belonged to someone. Looked like his angels and, you know, it felt really good to grab him off the street. We didnt know what was going to happen with him. The crew took the dog the dog is noup for adoption.
