After the record rain that some of us experiend continue to dry out over the nextseveral days. Flood warnings remain in effect for all the highlighted in green. That is due to flooded roads, full streams and creeks and clogged storm drains. That continues through about 10 30 this evening. Temperatures across the area actually in the 40s and 50s so a cooler start to the morning. 50 degrees in raleigh and durham, 53 is our current temperature in fayetteville. We can expect things to stay dry thanks to an area of High Pressure building in. Were looking supny and cooler today sunny and cooler than yesterday, 68 degrees. Sunny skies all day today, a chance to dry out. Thanks a lot. Many School Districts have canceled class for the day. Wake, cumberland county, harnett, johnston and nash rocky mount schools are a handful that are out for the day. Many of those schools are closed due to outages. The latest on efforts to get the power back on, and allie it looks dark. Reporter this neighborhood here, Colonial Drive and raleigh theyre expected to be without power for another six days. This neighborhood is served by duke energy. North Carolina State Emergency Response Team told us that as of 3 this morning over 500,000 that numbers was around 77m hit now, duke energy says they have a 5800 workers responding. Thousands more will be arriving to help out but it will still take some time. In some cases weve had substations that were flooded and we wont be able so safely work in some of those zones until the flooding has receded. We expect this to be a multiday effort in the hardest areas. The restoration most likely wont be complete until next weekend. Reporter governor mccore drink mccrory is urging people to be safe. It was 17 years ago that princeville was nearly wiped out by hurricane floyd. It is the oldest town in our country to be founded by africanamericans. Cbs north carolinas david was there as deputies went doorto door. 2800 people evacuated princeville last fire crews driving through the streets of princeville for a mandatory city evacuation. The rising of the tar river raising concern for the city of princeville tonight resulting in a 7 p. M. Cur view. Officials say the river will continue to rise to nearly 36 feet by early tuesday morning. At almost 35 feet, the tar river water reaches the base of the princeville dike. We have a cur curfew that deputies will be out here and sound. Residents made their way to two locations in tarboro like here at the martin Millennial Academy for shelter. Just praying that everything be good because so just praying that everybody be safe. Weve had families coming in and out throughout the day. Right here we have about 48 that are in this 96 people. People are worried about the safety of their homes but they dont want to repeat what happened 17 years ago with hurricane floyd destroying the entire city. S. 70 thats wade avenue, the eastbound side, the exit ramp blocked at glenwood avenue. Also, tryon road, the road is closed a several around zebulon, also several around wilson as well. 581 here theres flooding between Rock Ridge School road and renfro road, also parts of i95 and i40 closed too to that flooding as well. Use some caution if you are heading into work this morning. Watch for some of these road closures and please be careful for that drive in. Still ahead a domestic dispute over the weekend ends with two officers killed in california. And the latest condition of the third officer who was hit in the shootout. Plus many of the deaths from Hurricane Matthew came as drivers attempted to navigate high waters. Coming up, how a teen in Johnston County tried to put an end to that. We now know how many of the deaths from Hurricane Matthew came from drivers being swept off flooded roads. Two of those deaths were reported in Johnston County, an area that saw between 7 and 10 inches of rain. High water and road closed signs and barricades went ignored by many of the drivers. Our crews in Johnston County found some areas where no one attempted to even cross, and others some drivers started, stopped, and we want back the way they came. We still have a lot of standing water, a lot of road closures this morning. It is going to take some time for all that water to come down. We will see dry conditions today. These were extended until 10 30 this evening. Flood warnings continue for all the counties highlighted in green here. Thats until 10 30 this evening. Thats because of the flooded roads. The fact that our sts still have overflowed their nks and we have clogged storm drains causing additional high water problems too. Still a potentially messy siation today. The weather is going to cooperate for us. We have nothing popping up on the radar this morning. We can expect skies to stay clear all day. A lot of sunshine in the forecast which will help things dry out over the next several days. These temperatures will be climbing in the upper 60s today. Still a little breezy this afternoon. As we head into wednesday and thursday that high starts to slide off to the east a bit. Were still mostly sunny. 70degree temperatures will be making a comeback. By friday, saturday, and sunday behind a cold front were still sunny, still dry and were comfortable as a new system of High Pressure builds in. Expect temperatures around the sandhills in the upper 60s. Right around 69 at fort bragg 66 in wilson and rocky mount, 65 degrees in roanoke rapids. Around the triangle temperatures also in the upper 60s. 67 degrees in durham, 68 degrees your high in raleigh. We are being to see temperatures in the 60s tomorrow. Were looking at a high of 69. 73 degrees on wednesday after another start, in the 40s the state fair officially starts on thursday with a High Temperature of 76. Were near 70 for friday and sunday. Many roads still closed due to the flooding we actually experienced across the area here. A closure on i95 northbound, its closed from exit 79 here, thats main street to exit 87. A big closure there. Exits 81a and 81b, which is the route for i40. Weve got a lot of closur that still exist there on i40. Another road closure from exit 334 to exit 341. That is a 7mile closure there on i40 in Johnston County. We also have some closures here on u. S. 64 by tarboro. Thats exit 478. And that close is until exit 487.
