So were half way through the month of january. You probably would be ready for me to Start Talking about snow, right . Im not. Im going to talk about the tropics today. Hows that for a surprise. In the mean time, look at the big picture. Theres not a lot going on. There will be in 48 hours. Well keep an eye on the gulf of mexico. Thats where our rain will come from. None of that tonight. We just have cold. Many of us dropped in the upper 20s. Low 30s after a high today of 43 degrees. And as we continue into tonight, well keep skies clear, winds generally very light. Not a huge issue with windchill. And no precipitation. Well hold in the mid to low 30s tonight. Then we drop into the 20s over night. And thursday morning, almost through the work and school week, youre out the door tomorrow, 27 on the thermometer will feel like 25. Just a really light wind. Little colder than what it says on your car thermometer. That cold front that moved through last night. I think it worked. Temperatures about 15 degrees colder today than yesterday. Theres the cold front now. Its over the ocean. We have High Pressure thats come down from canada. And like it has the last few with it. This high, were not done with it just yet. Its going to shift around tomorrow. So thursdays forecast map has it moving over the ocean as well. Our winds will move out of the south. That will send us back in the 50s. We expect to stay in the 50s this weekend. But were going to bring an area of low pressure up from the gulf of mexico like i said. And thats the one thats going to bring us a good chance of and evening. Then after friday departs, so does the area of low pressure, then we get into the weekend, and theres a few clouds. Theres a small chance of rain each day. But the big story this weekend is going to be this cold front. It comes through sunday. And it will drop our temperatures next week and it was today. So weve had some strong cold fronts. But as of right now, we still dont have any snow in the forecast. But we have news from the tropics. So the National Hurricane center has been keeping an eye on this cluster of clouds the last few days. And finally today, they pulled the trigger and designated it sub Tropical Storm alex. Not tropical because sub tropical means its not pulling all its energy from the warm ocean water. Mainly because theres not a lot of warm ocean water but still, 50 Miles Per Hour winds moving to the northeast. Closer to africa than it is to the east coast. So obviously no concern for us. But its historic. Its only the fourth one ever weve had form in january. First since 1978. For many of us the first in our lifetime. In the mean time, back here at home, no tropical system. But we have sunshine and warmer weather. In the mid 50s in the triangle. 57 in fayetteville. Your sevenday forecast takes us from the 40s today. Up to 55 tomorrow. Mainly because the clouds and rain. Thats an afternoon and evening event. 56 saturday. A small chance of rain there. A small chance of rain sunday. But look at that cold front coming through sunday afternoon or sunday evening, it leaves us with highs of 38 monday and tuesday. And our coldest morning right now looks to be tuesday. And ill tell you what, that 21, and even those 38s, i might have been a little generous, those numbers might come down even more. So Colder Weather is on the way. And maybe you had this happen to you today. But with cold air like we had today, your tires on the car, a lot of times they lose pressure. Yeah, ive noticed that for sure. Meteorologist bill ray explains why this happens and what you can do about it. Reporter maintaining proper tire pressure is important for better mileage, performance, and safety. The cars not going to handle as well if the tires are under inflated. Weight of the vehicle if its under inflated. Which will cause the tire to build up heat and its more susceptible to tire failure. The reason tires lose pressure in cold weather is because cold air is denser and those air molecules shrink and air escapes from the tire. So you need to monitor your tire pressure often. People come to us constantly in the winter saying that their tire pressure light is on the dash board, can we check it . Tire pressure Monitoring Systems required on new cars since 07 help take the guess work out of it. Normally its three or four pounds low. Well inflate the tires to the proper air pressure. The light will normally go off the dash. As a general rule, check your tire pressure every couple weeks during the winter with a gauge and fill if needed.
